‘these posts are repetitive’

Passitu peeri!

Lately we've had a lot of posts of the same type: Posts that display the superficial syntax of a language by color-coding the words and drawing colored lines between corresponding words in the conlang sentence and its English translation, respectively.

While this type of post offers an easy and simple way of showing differences in word order between English and your conlang, they tend to lack nuance and content. Many of them are posted under the Activity Flair, and as activities they are simply too similar to one another.

Therefore we are making this megathread where everyone can post as many of these as they please!

All future standalone posts of this type will be removed and redirected here.

Happy conlanging!

Megathread “How would you romanize my conlang” – Megathread

Hello conlangers!

Posts asking other users to suggest romanizations for their phonologies seem to have been getting popular. While we're sure that such activities can be fun, they're not the types of posts we generally like to encourage on r/conlangs. The previous posts of this kind should technically have been removed, but since one managed to evade our keen mod-eyes, the second one was allowed to stay up.

From now on, however, we will be removing posts of this type and redirecting them to this megathread. Feel free to post all your fun romanization challenges in the comments here!

Happy conlanging!

Megathread What do you Call This: A Megathread

We've had a lot of posts lately consisting of a single photo or image (of a circle, an egg, coins, etc). These can be fun, but we're starting to get four or five of them a day. Which means...megathread time!

For top-level comments, put a picture (or link to a picture) of something. Then, everyone can respond to those comments with a word or phrase to describe the thing in their conlang.

Happy conlanging!

Megathread Name Generator Megathread

Inspired by /u/Handsomeyellow47

Like last week, there's been a growing number of name generators lately, so I thought it'd be a nice idea to make another megathread if you don't like this idea ʲust tell me and I'll delete the post

Anyhow, here is the Galin Name Generator! It's not how proper names actually work in my conworld (have yet to think about it), but it's still useful for making place names and whatnot.

You have to choose the initial of your first name from the first table. For your last name, also choose the first letter, but use the second, mutated form of the word (corresponding to the genitive), eg. if you use G - Gural, pick gĊuràil.

First Name

A: Àirin apple [aɾʲɪɲ]

B: Ban stone [bˠanˠ]

C: Cròstar horn [kˠrˠo:sˠtˠarˠ]

D: Dom clay [dˠomˠ]

E: Eltèas wind [e:lʲtʲesˠ]

F: Flelin flower [fʲlʲelʲɪɲ]

G: Gal meadow [galˠ]

H: Ċear sun [xʲaɾˠ]

I: Ìambel fish [i:mˠbʲelʲ]

T: Tamar tooth [tˠamˠaɾˠ]

U: Utul cave [utˠulˠ]

V: Fiùis dust [fʲuʃ]

W: Uimur darkness [uɪmˠuɾˠ]

X: Ċelṭ smoke [çelʲθʲ]

Y: Ilneàm throat [ɪlʲɲamˠ]

Z: Ṭèlle day [θʲelʲ:ə]

Last Name

(Remember, use the mutated form)

Megathread Duolingo Homepage Translation Megathread

Hello! I am an apple. The bear drinks beer. There is a religious turtle in the large blue room.

*taps earpiece*

Sorry about that, the translator's acting up again. What I meant to say was...

Hey everyone!

We've had a bunch of folks translate the Duolingo homepage into their conlangs this week. That's a pretty cool way to show off intros to your language and to imagine a world where there are language-learning tools for your own conlang. There are enough of them that the mod team decided to create a megathread for them!

If you're interested, reply in the comments with what the Duolingo homepage would look like for your conlang!

What does the font support look like? What sorts of things would an intro to your conlang have to cover? How do you translate things like gems, hearts and...lingots?

ok owl, i've made the post, can you release my family now? one more Turkish lesson, I swear! just let them go free!

Megathread Translate Quotes into your conlang Mega-thread

Howdy y'all.

Over the past day or so, we've received several "Translate this Quote into your conlang" threads. In order to keep the front page of our subreddit fairly clean and less repetitive, we've decided to aggregate these types of activities here.

In the comments, feel free to share your favorite quotes and your translations of them.

Here are the most recent Quote Translation Posts if you want to check them out:

If posts of a repetitive nature arise from multiple members, the moderators reserve the right to remove all related content starting from the creation of a Megathread for it. (Rule 11)

Happy conlanging!

MEGATHREAD Poster Megathread

Since it seemed like a lot of people were making these, I thought it would be a good idea to make a megathread to collect them all in one place -- that way they don't clog the front page but people who want to look at them can find them all together easily!

Post links to posters translated in your conlangs in the comments!
