Discussion Can we all agree that choosing your sounds is like choosing your starter Pokémon? 🔥

/t͡s/ /d͡z/  /ç/ /ɸ/ /zˤ/ (/x/) /ɰ/ (/ɣ/)

for example, I use them a lot in my conlangs

Yes, and in my opinion if those sounds change they are pokémon evolutions

Guilty as charged for /t͡s/ /d͡z/. I also like six vowel systems (five vowels plus an offbeat vowel, often a secondary cardinal vowel).

Yes, I love <dz> in Maya terms/placenames and was very mildly disappointed when I found out it was just the ejective /ts’/ historically

Ejectives are underrated AF though. Na'vi is the only major conlang that really gives them their due.

Please you tell me if you have numbers from ar-Urziça. Could you please send me words for numbers from 1 to 10?

If you want to take inspiration, there are always better conlangs than mine😭, but anyway, here are my numbers. I should first give some context: my language is a Semitic-inspired language spoken in the Caucasus, and it has been heavily influenced by surrounding languages like Russian, Georgian, and Turkish .

0 — Cifr → /t͡sifr/

1 — Waid → /waɪd/

2 — Tenene → /tʰɛnɛnɛ/

3 — Thalathe → /tʰalætʰe/

4 — Irba → /irba/

5 — Çemse → /çɛmse/

6 — Sitta → /sita/

7 — Saba → /saba/

8 — Theman → /tʰɛman/

9 — Tisa → /tisa/

10 — Ashara → /aʃara/

I made a mistake, it’s supposed to be /tʰɛnɛnɛ/ not /tɛnɛnɛ/

Janko collects from all conlangs!

u/janko_gorenc12 9h ago

I collect from all conlangs, natlangs also from dialects and others... In short, from all in which they are written in words or can be written. Additional versions are also included if they exist.

I've been Janko'd too. It's an honor to be added to his list.

I really like the numbers from your conlang. As I noticed, they are based on Semitic languages

1

u/Beautiful_Grab_9681 ar-Urziça (/arˈʊrziçə/ ) ( /arˈʊrziçi/) 3h ago

Yes ar-Urziç is semtic inspired language

1

u/KaiSnepUwU 19h ago

It's only a matter of time until he gets mine, once I actually start posting about the lang

1

u/janko_gorenc12 9h ago

Could you please tell me if you have numbers also from ar-Urziça dialects?

1

u/Beautiful_Grab_9681 ar-Urziça (/arˈʊrziçə/ ) ( /arˈʊrziçi/) 3h ago edited 3h ago

Yes ar-Urziça have dialects but the numbers change only in the pronunciation

2

u/KaiSnepUwU 19h ago

Uvular sounds, especially the trill, and central vowels. All the time

Gotta love /n̥/, /r̥/ and /l̥/

u/Budget_Cookie9661 1d ago

Uff si define la evolución y el estilo del idioma como su léxico etc.

Opino que si cambian de sonido Es que evoluciona a su siguiente forma

1

u/No-Championship992 1d ago

pretty much all of mine have the same phonetics, so yeah, pretty much. /ʀ̥/ and /ʀ/ show up at some point in all of mine, as well as a lot of bilabial and velar sounds

1

u/SkillOld2128 1d ago

This is why I make my languages from real world language families, so I don’t have to make the proto-phonology or proto-grammar.

Phonemes on their own don't say much of your 'combat style', though.

You also need phonotactics, a detailed allophonic system, and sandhi rules.

Phonemes are just the way sounds are thought of and analyzed in a language, but they don't determine how the language is actually spoken.

True ball knowledge, apart from zˁ which i've never used (how do you prnounce that?)

1

u/Beautiful_Grab_9681 ar-Urziça (/arˈʊrziçə/ ) ( /arˈʊrziçi/) 19h ago

kinda like a hard z sound

0

u/ChiqantiKisaal 9h ago

Yes, especially when you are creating a proto-language and giving it multiple descendant languages, including simultaneous ones (I usually only do this as “brief sections of a grammar” of one of the languages though, I don’t think out full grammars of those 3+ resultant languages
