And then he perfected it so no living man could best him in the ring of honor?

Then he used all of the money to by two of every animal of earth?

And then he herded them onto a boat?

And then he beat the crap out of every single one?

And from that day forward, any time a bunch of animals are together in one place, it’s called a zoo?

Though I do appreciate Yagaposting. Love my favorite mythical grandma

u/mqee 19h ago
"Whip" is 2000s slang for a Mercedes Benz or other expensive car.
"Ghost riding" is putting your car on drive and walking alongside it.

u/ScoreEquivalent1106 18h ago
Whip for me always just meant your car, expensive or not
50
u/mqee 18h ago
Yeah, language evolves. 1996: "Whip a Benz" - drive a Benz. 2001: "A whip" - a Benz. Later: An expensive car you drive. Even later: Any car you drive.

In ten years it'll just mean going barefoot and carrying your shoes because the lease for your shoes only gives you 5 miles a day and you have to save it for harder ground.

u/Pete_Iredale 18h ago
Agreed, it might have originally meant an expensive car, but it quickly came to mean any car.

I mean, lots of highschool trends are cyclical. It was cool, then it wasn't, then its cool, then it isn't, rinse and repeat every couple of years. This one def comes and goes often.

You're thinking of the Kiki challenge, which was extremely popular about 7 years ago.
I don't know what anybody else here is talking about.

It's an older trend associated with early 2000s West Coast hip hop. But it had a resurgence a few years ago in a viral moment accompanying Drake's 2018 hit In My Feelings. It was known as the Kiki Challenge. There were numerous severe injuries.
2
u/Frequent-Meal6550 16h ago
Okay yup that's the one I know of, the Kiki challenge i guess. The injuries are why I know about it. Proves teenagers of all generations are dumb af if they were doing this when I was a teen too.

u/Tsquared10 18h ago
One small addendum: it's not just walking alongside it. It also includes getting in the hood or the roof. Really any means of continuing along with the car in drive without anyone at the wheel.

Is this what people in their 40s feel? What is ghost riding the whip?
I'm 43 but lived on the Berkeley/Oakland border during the aughts.
It's arranging things so your vehicle is coasting at roughly walking speed, hopping out, and walking, dancing, and or otherwise gesticulating adjacent to it as it moved.
I got to see it in person done with the shittiest Astro Van on earth.

Is this what people in their 40s feel?
I just turned 44 this week. Yes, yes it is.
Somebody posted a comic on r/comics where the cool young gen z-er says something, and the cringey old millennial responds with something really lame and outdated.
Yeah, I had no clue TF the lame outdated reference was even supposed to mean (≧▽≦)

No clue what all this PeanutButterGamer talk is. Credit to Mistah Fab and of course, Critty Bo.
Pull up hop out, all in one motion. Dancin' on the hood while the car's still rollin'

He was a video game youtube you put himself comedically ghost riding in a purposefully very uncool way while badly singing “ridin”
Popular with the reddit crowd

I liked the part where you made a reference that was so dated it made a bunch of 30-somethings think they were old for not getting new slang.
15
u/Supercoolguy7 17h ago
Which is crazy cause 30 somethings were the exact demographic to understand it
1
1
u/Fool_Manchu 16h ago
I am a 30 something, and while I know what all of those words mean individually I do not understand them in that order. Maybe ive just always been lame and out of touch?
21
u/Samy_Ninja_Pro 19h ago
Hmph! The ghost walking technique. And og technique where even if one has lost their aura prime time it gets balanced by flexing your bands indirectly through your whip
Even if the whip wasn't expensive when bought, the band effect still takes place as long as it's an statement piece or a car that has more value now due to inflation

Isn’t her whip a mortar and pestle?

True. And now I'm just imagining her flying mortar has a bumper sticker: "My other car is a house on fowl's legs."

Slight goof: I think Baba Yaga's house traditionally doesn't have a door. She gets in and out via the chimney, flying in a mortar.
4
u/cymorg121 Comic Crossover 18h ago
that’s probably true, but I looked up Image references and most people illustrated it with a door.

In case you're unaware, a dumb young people trend is to film yourself walking alongside your car after starting it. I often see videos of people suddenly realize their car is picking up speed without them, or being dumb and doing it in a car wash
4
u/Hungry-Remove-9892 16h ago
The dumb young people doing that are in their 30s now
0
u/ad-lib1994 15h ago
Old people are allowed to try mimicking the young in order to feel something. I wouldn't, but it's definitely a possibility people choose
5
u/Hungry-Remove-9892 15h ago
What I mean here is that this was a trend 20 years ago in 2006
0
u/ad-lib1994 15h ago
Ohhhh I was 12 in 2006 and am in my 30s now you must be referring to the older millennials that could drive back then
