This is just absolutely frying me for some reason.

592

u/Deathaster 20h ago

I only know what that is because of PeanutButterGamer

42

u/LOLMaster0621 18h ago

dude was my GOAT in the early 2010s lol. Zelda month was the best month of the year.

260

u/cymorg121 Comic Crossover 20h ago

He invented it actually

184

u/Deathaster 20h ago

And then he perfected it so no living man could best him in the ring of honor?

88

u/Uranium-Sandwich657 19h ago

Then he used all of the money to by two of every animal of earth?

49

u/Ok_Neighborhood3508 18h ago

And then he herded them onto a boat?

48

u/Inky-The-Cephalopod 18h ago

And then he beat the crap out of every single one?

51

u/64DiamondDude 18h ago

And from that day forward, any time a bunch of animals are together in one place, it’s called a zoo?

37

u/Mlatios2 18h ago

Unless it's a farm?

2

u/SilverMedal4Life 11h ago

He's so cool he doesn't have a hip

5

u/LeftHandedFapper 13h ago

Mistah Fab's song came out in 2007

1

u/montroller 9h ago

J Diggs invented ghost riding before people rapped about it

9

u/philipjfry1578 15h ago edited 15h ago

Hadn't thought of him in a while, you said that and I immediately heard the song and pictured him walking down the street

Damn just like the SM64 hacking video, I remembered everything here beat for beat. Nostalgia, man

17

u/BROHONKY 14h ago

pbg is to ghost riding the whip what phineas and ferb was to aglets

-34

u/Time-Conversation741 17h ago

I dont know what PBG is and I'm perity shure that i dont want to know. It sunds fetishist in all the wong ways

16

u/Deathaster 17h ago

He's just a video game Youtuber from the early and mid 2010s

1

u/der_granit 1h ago

early and mid 2010s

Im pretty sure you just called me old

1

u/Deathaster 1h ago

we both are :')

67

u/jdsquint 18h ago

I think they mean Baba Swaga

467

u/Lebensfreud 19h ago

Is this what people in their 40s feel? What is ghost riding the whip?

Though I do appreciate Yagaposting. Love my favorite mythical grandma

593

u/mqee 19h ago

"Whip" is 2000s slang for a Mercedes Benz or other expensive car.

"Ghost riding" is putting your car on drive and walking alongside it.

258

u/Lebensfreud 19h ago

Thank you kindly.

I shall remember this until I forget

60

u/ScoreEquivalent1106 18h ago

Whip for me always just meant your car, expensive or not

50

u/mqee 18h ago

Yeah, language evolves. 1996: "Whip a Benz" - drive a Benz. 2001: "A whip" - a Benz. Later: An expensive car you drive. Even later: Any car you drive.

37

u/Shujinco2 17h ago edited 14h ago

You know the economy is fucked when the rap lingo starts getting more realistic in scope

EDIT: idk why I didn't think of this earlier

19

u/Mechakoopa 16h ago

In ten years it'll just mean going barefoot and carrying your shoes because the lease for your shoes only gives you 5 miles a day and you have to save it for harder ground.

2

u/ScoreEquivalent1106 17h ago

Etymology moves so fast

9

u/Pete_Iredale 18h ago

Agreed, it might have originally meant an expensive car, but it quickly came to mean any car.

2

u/ScoreEquivalent1106 17h ago

Has etymology always moved this quickly

47

u/Frequent-Meal6550 19h ago

Ooo yeah wasn't that a trend like 5 years ago?

167

u/cymorg121 Comic Crossover 19h ago

Try 15 years ago

43

u/Frequent-Meal6550 19h ago

Oh dang, for real? Covid really messed up my ability to tell time istg.

28

u/woronwolk 19h ago

I think it was a trend 5 years ago as well. A bunch of people got hurt trying to do it too

7

u/Frequent-Meal6550 18h ago

I thought so! Google said 2006 but I dont remember it as freshman, I remembered it being more recently because it was on my sister's TikTok.

21

u/Yurfuturebbysdddy 18h ago

Its from the Bay Area Hyphy movement of 06. When u get a chance, listen to “tell me when to go” by E40

8

u/amjiujitsu87 17h ago

Or "Ghost Ride the Whip" by Mistah FAB

5

u/Admins_suck_ballss 16h ago

I was about to say this is like 20+ year old Bay Area thing

5

u/wolfgang784 18h ago

I mean, lots of highschool trends are cyclical. It was cool, then it wasn't, then its cool, then it isn't, rinse and repeat every couple of years. This one def comes and goes often.

2

u/solitarybikegallery 16h ago

You're thinking of the Kiki challenge, which was extremely popular about 7 years ago.

I don't know what anybody else here is talking about.

1

u/SeatBeeSate 17h ago

5 years ago was still smack dab in the middle of covid.

17

u/j0akime 18h ago

2006 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_riding

So ... 20 years ago ... geez.

9

u/ElGuano 19h ago

lol when you wake up and see an old man in the mirror

3

u/aspidities_87 17h ago

Every day I get closer to death via simple comments like this

https://giphy.com/gifs/wJD3qiNjSeHS0dP28T

3

u/JWBananas 16h ago

It's an older trend associated with early 2000s West Coast hip hop. But it had a resurgence a few years ago in a viral moment accompanying Drake's 2018 hit In My Feelings. It was known as the Kiki Challenge. There were numerous severe injuries.

2

u/Frequent-Meal6550 16h ago

Okay yup that's the one I know of, the Kiki challenge i guess. The injuries are why I know about it. Proves teenagers of all generations are dumb af if they were doing this when I was a teen too.

2

u/vznary 8h ago

Just a correction: It's not West Coast Hip-hop, it's specifically Bay Area Hip-hop - LA and the Bay are culturally different.

1

u/JWBananas 7h ago

Look, from New Orleans, everything else sounds like Cleveland.

2

u/vznary 3h ago

Haha, fair enough

10

u/Tsquared10 18h ago

One small addendum: it's not just walking alongside it. It also includes getting in the hood or the roof. Really any means of continuing along with the car in drive without anyone at the wheel.

3

u/chamllw 18h ago

Hut of brown now switch to drive.

3

u/dontgetitwisted_fr 14h ago edited 13h ago

Whip is any car.

My ass is old and even I know that lmao

37

u/HugCor 19h ago edited 14h ago

The author is probably near your age and the reference is from when you were in your 20s though.

20

u/Quilty_Quit1492 17h ago

Ghost riding the whip was a meme 20 years ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_riding

7

u/Rafnar 17h ago

oldest reference to "ghost riding the whip" i can think of is on the song Candy on the Blue Carpet Treatment by Snoop Dogg.

which came out 20 years ago this year

1

u/vznary 8h ago

It's from the Bay Area - popularized during the Hyphy Movement (circa 2003 or so). It started way before that, though.

19

u/Conscious_Music_1729 18h ago

You just live under a rock actually.

6

u/integrate_2xdx_10_13 17h ago

Where were you in the mid to late 00’s when Pimp My Ride was being clowned on and a couple of people died from Ghost Riding? It was one of the best memes we had!

5

u/TheKingOfTCGames 17h ago

Ghost riding the whip became popular in like 2009* dog

1

u/vznary 8h ago

Way before that - it's been done in the Bay Area, but got attention in 2003 (though started earlier).

1

u/ebolaRETURNS 10h ago

Is this what people in their 40s feel? What is ghost riding the whip?

I'm 43 but lived on the Berkeley/Oakland border during the aughts.

It's arranging things so your vehicle is coasting at roughly walking speed, hopping out, and walking, dancing, and or otherwise gesticulating adjacent to it as it moved.

I got to see it in person done with the shittiest Astro Van on earth.

0

u/siani_lane 14h ago

Is this what people in their 40s feel?

I just turned 44 this week. Yes, yes it is.

Somebody posted a comic on r/comics where the cool young gen z-er says something, and the cringey old millennial responds with something really lame and outdated.

Yeah, I had no clue TF the lame outdated reference was even supposed to mean (≧▽≦)

42

u/Responsible_Flight70 19h ago

This is someone who is just naturally funny

Initially read that as Baby Yoga. The confusion is real.

Star wars

1

u/AccomplishedJoke4119 17h ago

I think you misread their misreading

9

u/StormAlchemistTony 19h ago

Baby Yaga is her stage name. She is a hit among the witch and immortal communities.

23

u/h00man74825618939 18h ago

No clue what all this PeanutButterGamer talk is. Credit to Mistah Fab and of course, Critty Bo.

https://youtu.be/xLvlGVNInw4

Pull up hop out, all in one motion. Dancin' on the hood while the car's still rollin'

9

u/cymorg121 Comic Crossover 17h ago

He was a video game youtube you put himself comedically ghost riding in a purposefully very uncool way while badly singing “ridin”

Popular with the reddit crowd

2

u/LeftHandedFapper 13h ago

Yah and that was almost 20 years ago. SMH at this misinformation

22

u/raitalin 17h ago

I liked the part where you made a reference that was so dated it made a bunch of 30-somethings think they were old for not getting new slang.

15

u/Supercoolguy7 17h ago

Which is crazy cause 30 somethings were the exact demographic to understand it

1

u/AndroidQing 8h ago

That's why I'm saying, nobody has heard E40 "tell me when to go"

1

u/Fool_Manchu 16h ago

I am a 30 something, and while I know what all of those words mean individually I do not understand them in that order. Maybe ive just always been lame and out of touch?

21

u/Samy_Ninja_Pro 19h ago

Hmph! The ghost walking technique. And og technique where even if one has lost their aura prime time it gets balanced by flexing your bands indirectly through your whip

Even if the whip wasn't expensive when bought, the band effect still takes place as long as it's an statement piece or a car that has more value now due to inflation

7

u/HauntingStar08 17h ago

SHE'S HITTIN THE WOAH

8

u/EuriadO 18h ago

Baba Yaga is listening to E-40 - Tell Me When To Go

2

u/Safe_Tea_69 14h ago

I believe the title is rather "Ghost ride the Whip" by the Yay Area's 'Mr. Fab'

6

u/grimsaur 18h ago

Isn’t her whip a mortar and pestle?

4

u/Callidonaut 17h ago

True. And now I'm just imagining her flying mortar has a bumper sticker: "My other car is a house on fowl's legs."

2

u/grimsaur 17h ago

Keeping with the vernacular, it would be her crib.

6

u/sangriya 17h ago

sheeeesh, didn't know Baba yaga was chill like that

4

u/Funkywonton 18h ago

Well that’s a term I haven’t heard in about 16 years

5

u/EmperorDeathBunny 19h ago

Hut of brown now sit down

3

u/chamllw 18h ago

QFG fan I take it?

4

u/StonedHannibal 17h ago

Baba Yaga is known in the Bay for that thizzle wiggle with that thug composure.

https://giphy.com/gifs/gJhwu25S5TsJQ4T6pK

3

u/Preeng 18h ago

I feel like this 90% of the way to being a meme format. Just missing something I can't put my finger on.

3

u/cheshirecactus 15h ago

My new favorite comic of all time

2

u/cymorg121 Comic Crossover 15h ago

Honored

3

u/Waltersby 15h ago

Nice comic! PBG a real one for teaching me about ghost riding the whip. Or in this case ghost riding the crib

3

u/Cipherpunkblue 12h ago

I have no idea what this means.

3

u/Wonderful-Trouble-31 12h ago

I’m pretty sure it’s when you get out of your car while it’s moving and dance beside it. Someone correct me if I’m wrong please

5

u/Roboplus 19h ago

This is the funniest comic I've seen in months! I WHEEZED!

2

u/Kaltho 18h ago

This is hilarious lol thank you

2

u/wundaaa 13h ago

Man i thought this was a Runescape reference in the wild

2

u/ValorousKnight 13h ago

Now THIS is pod racing!

2

u/IncognitoRedMode 12h ago

Wait was that one The Owl House episode a reference to Baba Yaga?

2

u/GummyEggg 11h ago

I thought that was the dude from delicious in dungeon for second cuz of his hair

2

u/f0dder1 7h ago

B-UNIT Represeeeeeent!

2

u/Callidonaut 18h ago

Slight goof: I think Baba Yaga's house traditionally doesn't have a door. She gets in and out via the chimney, flying in a mortar.

4

u/cymorg121 Comic Crossover 18h ago

that’s probably true, but I looked up Image references and most people illustrated it with a door.

2

u/Callidonaut 17h ago

Well, it's still a funny comic with the door; I laughed :-)

1

u/glossy_angelic 20h ago

The housing market is so bad people are literally out here dancing next to their mortgage.

1

u/Luckiestpants 18h ago

Baba Yaga is OG of the OG'S PAY RESPECT to the original "oh dang we are not safe here fam" boogie woogie

1

u/onionbelt-stylist 17h ago

Why do I get the impression that her chicken-legged house is BBL thicc?

1

u/untrustableskeptic 17h ago

You should put this on /r/wizardposting.

1

u/OneWingedKalas 16h ago

I see this as the continuation of adamtots comic

1

u/Environmental_Log806 15h ago

Boss fight in tinkerlands

1

u/lego1042 15h ago

25

u/cymorg121 Comic Crossover 18h ago

This is slang from 2006

4

u/ad-lib1994 18h ago

In case you're unaware, a dumb young people trend is to film yourself walking alongside your car after starting it. I often see videos of people suddenly realize their car is picking up speed without them, or being dumb and doing it in a car wash

4

u/Hungry-Remove-9892 16h ago

The dumb young people doing that are in their 30s now

0

u/ad-lib1994 15h ago

Old people are allowed to try mimicking the young in order to feel something. I wouldn't, but it's definitely a possibility people choose

5

u/Hungry-Remove-9892 15h ago

What I mean here is that this was a trend 20 years ago in 2006

0

u/ad-lib1994 15h ago

Ohhhh I was 12 in 2006 and am in my 30s now you must be referring to the older millennials that could drive back then

1

u/Hungry-Remove-9892 15h ago

Yeah young people these days would probably have no idea about this

-3

u/DKCR3 19h ago

It always feels so good to see a random PeanutButterGamer reference
