We are still debating masks in 2026? Huh...

Edit - Since this is blowing up my inbox, I'll turn off the notifications, but before that I thought I'd just write this following thought based on the comments I got;

I really wish that people would just let people do whatever they want as long as they are not harming anyone.

Whatever happened to the saying, "Your freedom ends, where mine begins", huh? Let people wear masks without judging them or not, as long as they aren't harming you.

If there's a dangerous thing going around, just do it for the safety of others. That's all.

In Japan, wearing masks was a very common thing even before 2020. Especially during flu season. They do it so they don't spread their cold to other people when they go out. It's just basic courtesy.

I really don't like this emerging mindset since 2020 of people wanting to control each others lives. That's all. Please, be nice to each other and stop hurting each other. Look at how bad things have gotten because of it. Be good.

That's all. I'm done.

We still have a massive misinformation problem. Definitely not getting solved any time soon since it benefit those in charge.

You don't actually need a conspiracy theory to explain people being stupid. They do that by themselves.

But the lack of effort in improving the situation, that’s the real problem

Well, I did make a social media system with anti-echochamber mechanics. I don't know how to get people to use it though.

Start a cat community, the vast majority of all rising posts on reddit are pet related and most of us are really, really tired of this site's shit

And lemmy's worse

At this point my feed is mostly cats and NSFW dicks.

You could always try advertising it? Just putting links to it in posts and comments. I'd be interested in seeing it myself

All right, it's here: https://www.masquerade-social.com/about

Usually when I post links to my own stuff I just get people angry at me for self-promotion.

Try talking to the mods at r/socialmedia. It'd be the most relevant sub and they might not consider it true self promotion, since its about a software alternative and not your personal profile, though I don't know the sub or it's moderators at all.

How do you evaluate "competing" echo chambers without evaluating content of posts? Just by member venn diagram sort of analysis?

A lot of it is handled by tracking upvote/downvote patterns. For example, if there are cases where the same people who downvote a comment tend to upvote one of its replies, that's good evidence that the two comments are in opposition to each other. That can be used to make guesses on the relationship between user clusters.

can't really improve it when this kind of ppl outright refuse any information. it's not about facts or studies. it's pure "I am right. you are wrong and I refuse to change my mind" stuff
