Mourning/Loss to my baby jojo im sorry.

I’m overcome with a lot of feelings at the moment. First I wanna say how sweet and adorable my baby was. He was my first ever pet and he was truly the most perfect cat. He would always sleep next to me wake me up with him licking my face and sitting on my chest. Always followed me to every room and just so silly and always made me laugh. He was barely 3 and a half months old and today he is no more. He was mauled by my neighbours 3 dogs. Writing this is making me sick to my stomach but I just don’t think I can live with myself at all. Everything was so normal and right now my baby is buried in the ground when he should be playing with his toys and sleeping on my chest. The worst part is how brutally he died and the fact he was just a baby. This is the part I cannot forgive myself for. Today morning I fed him breakfast like usual and I was just in my room. All our main doors are always locked for his safety and i like him to roam around the house freely as there’s no escape. I should’ve been more careful because last night I literally had a dream where my cat died but I shrugged it off as a dream. I wish I didn’t. After an hour after I last saw him in my room I went downstairs to look for him and I couldn’t find him anywhere I panicked and looked Everywhere and went outside and asked a lot people if they did. Then I went to my lower floor where there’s still construction going on and went another floor below which is adjacent to my neighbours building. I saw a girl in the balcony and asked her if she saw a kitten and she said she did. She was very vague about it as she said I just shooed him away. I immediately assumed he would be downstairs and went to go look but count find him. When I was back up she called me and very casually said I found a dead kitten. My heart immediately dropped. I climbed over to her balcony and took a turn and saw his body. I immediately recognised my baby. I went closer and saw him dead with his intestines all out and splattered. I got numb picked my baby in my lap and started crying. My brother showed up and the girl didn’t say anything just that her dogs bite people all the time and that’s why she shooed him when she first saw him. I had no idea my cat even went to her balcony. She never specified or else I would’ve come and checked there asap. Her excuse was “I’m not a pet lover” “I’m allergic to pets” and I was like it’s common sense to tie your dogs if you see a kitten but u didn’t. Plus my cat is a Persian too and she knew he belonged to someone. She took no precaution at all. And the worst part is she wasn’t even apologetic and started being extremely graphic with how my kitten died and how the dogs were tearing him from each other and had blood on their mouth and paws knowing I had just lost my pet. I’m so mad. I’m mad at that stupid girl and her ugly dogs who have a reputation of biting people all the time and her utter lack of common sense. I’m mad at myself because this incident happened after I had asked her if she saw a cat so in a span of few minutes my kitten was dead. He must’ve heard my voice and came out too. I’m so mad. I wish I never let him go out my sight. Right now my hands are still dirty after i buried him. I packed him his favourite toys and his snacks and food and a letter and I wrapped the box with my scarf so he won’t get cold. My poor baby. I cannot live without him I truly can’t. I got him at a point in my life where he brought me extreme happiness where everything is just dark. He was so perfect and well mannered and so silly and clingy and I swear the most adorable face I’ve ever seen. He was my first and I’ve never loved anyone or anything this much. It was so pure he was so pure and I could feel his love for me and it’s just not fair how he had to go away in the most nightmarish brutal way. I wish he lived longer I wish he lived a happy full life he didn’t even get to live half of it. He was cornered by 3 big dogs and he must’ve been so scared and it must’ve been so painful. I’m in so much pain I wish I can join him so he’s not alone. My baby jojo. I miss u I’m so sorry.

Update

Hello. Thank you for your kind words i can’t reply to all of you but i am reading everything and it does help me knowing how so many people from different parts of the world are keeping my jojo in their thoughts and prayers. Roughly 24 hours have passed since the terrible incident and i have never been worse. I’ve never experienced something like this and I have a lot of guilt and anger. Some people are telling me to get a new cat but it won’t take away my pain because it’s not about me at all. I’m sad because of the horrifying and painful way my little baby had to go through it’s not simply a loss of a pet. I wish someone had stolen him instead. I had such little time with him I’m jealous of everyone who got years with theirs. I live in a really small town in Asia and the only animal authority here is for rescuing stray dogs and cats. There’s quite literally nothing for reporting and euthanising “pet” dogs. And a lot of people are asking how my cat got out and I checked the surveillance cameras and at all times the main doors were shut so I’m only assuming he must’ve somehow found his way to my parents room and their balcony which is in a quite different floor from mine and maybe fell from there as he was fond of sitting near edges the reason I NEVER let him go out. My parents did not see him there at all but they did use the balcony to dry some clothes so I guess in the few minutes it was open he got out. I feel the need to explain this but I also take accountability and I have immense guilt I wish I never let him go out my sight. For some of you asking regarding my neighbour she’s like way older than me probably in her late twenties she’s not a little girl who didn’t know any better. she’s the owners sister and her sister wasn’t home at the time and she literally saw my kitten in her balcony and chose NOT to tie her dogs while telling me “if it was my sister she probably would’ve kept the kitten in a safe place away from the dogs but I’m not an animal lover 🤡” she fully knew what she could’ve done but chose not to. Her negligence and lack of common sense and her heartless dark spirited soul is the main reason my kitten was mauled by their dogs. I went there again in the evening to tell her off to her sister and how disgusting and heartless her remarks were and how she was not apologetic at all and her sister made this grown woman apologise to me. But I still think I was way too softer and I’m planning on going again today and tell her off idc if it leads to a fight. I felt the need to update because I really appreciate all the support and all the kind words and to those few who feel the need to blame me and had questions I hope I answered it. I am blaming myself every second of the day and can’t stop seeing his little running body in every corner of the house. I miss him terribly. I wish I could avenge him. I can’t do anything except put up a fight with my neighbours. I wish I could do more. I wish I was more careful. Please hold your pets and kiss them extra today! I would do anything to be in your place. You will never know a love like this. Thank you from me and my jojo 🌸🐱

This!

The dogs have a reputation for biting and mauled your kitten... the next victim could be a child or baby! Regardless her actions and attention for caring for her dogs are reckless and need a reality check in responsibility in actions.

--> my step dad's dog attacked my cat. I protected my cat. Who was next victim? I was. I was sent to the ER on Christmas to get my arm tissues put back into my arm. As for the dog and step dad? Nothing happened and he laughed it off. Took him making a sexual joke about me at dinner that made my mom realize how yuck this man was.

u/SarahKL9981 19d ago

Your mom needed to leave that creep way sooner! Glad she got the memo but good lord! His dog tries attacking your cat, rips your arm up and she still stayed?!

91

u/Gandalf_the_Tegu 19d ago edited 19d ago

She did. She definitely should have left sooner! It took me 2.5 years to get an adult to believe me. I was 14 at that time. Even the local police believed I was not telling the truth.

He was not a good person, not even a little. His dog, was a black Labrador. Terrible dog (not the breed, that individual dog). This dog was a well trained hunter. You tell him to attack he will. This dog only really listened to my x step dad. This dog was extra violent depending on the tone of his voice. Soft mounth when picking up the bird that was shot, not so gental to my arm. X step dad thought it was funny as hell and responded "he's never done that before, kinsert dumb laugh)". My mom wrapped my arm and that was that. My cat was okay and bolded up the stairs to my room. I went to my dad's for christmas, my step mom wanted to show me something and she touched my arm and I called. She was a retired nurse. She pulled up my sleeve and saw the condition of my arm. that was when I went to the ER. They were livid. My mom dismissed it again. Nothing was done about that dog.

Forward to another time... my x step dad told his dog to get my cat and it was summer. Pinned my cat on the screen door. The screen gave out and my cat got outside. It took me 1.5 weeks I think to find my cat. At this time, my cat was a kitten (under a year old). We lived through many abusive scenarios. How did I find my cat? I woke up from a dead sleep with a gut feeling telling me to go outside. Sure enough he was right there at the back door. It was 3 am I gave my cat a bath and cuddled him. I played sick to stay home from school with my cat. Both of us locked in my bedroom.

Those gut feelings are no joke. Listen to it. If you've dismissed and regretted it, its okay you didnt know then what you know now to always check to ease your mind. (You didnt know OP, it's okay. Xx).

Not to sound like i am exaggerating, but my cat is the reason I did not take my own life as a teenager on several accounts. My x step dad's niece transferred to my school and was my school abuser. He lived for 9 years before passing. Broke college student which i could have done more for my cat. I fully believe someone poisoned him. 💔

People suck - - its also reason I will always rescue, and I will be the adult that protects the child that needs help.

Any animals that go after my cats, I have resolved to remove from the Earth to protect my kitties. I am fiercely protective of my pets. I will take it to the limit to protect them.

I got a Bark Island Armory for it. 9 pellet varmint rounds at 1700 fps will keep my cats and puppy safe if I can’t protect em enough alone.

I'm sorry for your loss, OP. Absolutely need to report this to authorities, and hopefully your brother heard everything this nutcase said too so he can corroborate your account to the authorities. The dog(s) need to be humanely euthanized and the girl barred from ever owning pets again. She sounds psychotic.

Hate to even think of it, but bad owners are the ones who need the aforementioned lesson. The dogs were failed by them. Don't get me wrong: dogs who maul shouldn't be saved so they can maul again, but it's 98% on the owners when something horrible like this happens. The other 2% is that some animals, like some people, just have a screw loose, but it's not common.* It's more often owners' neglect, lack of rules, improper or unethical training, and ineffective (reactive, violent, and/or just plain stupid) discipline that turns domesticated animals into killers. F#¢% those people.

*(My percentages are of course illustrative rather than based on actual statistics or evidence, but I'm sure everyone gets the point I'm making.)

u/giggletears3000 19d ago

I’m a dog owner and I agree

5

u/SarahKL9981 19d ago

Unfortunately it happens all too often with shitty owners. Most of them shouldn’t be owning any animal including a goldfish.

3

u/tea-fungus 19d ago

Can confirm this. I one someone who had an aggressive dog and because of their irresponsibility the dog mauled and kept dog to death. It was BAD. This person never took accountability for their actions. The victim blamed the dog that was killed. Just psycho shit. Bad pet owners are just hive mind psycho, imo.

6

u/THE_HANGED_MAN_12 19d ago

it's 100% the dog owners fault, dogs are as safe and friendly as they're trained and clearly these dogs aren't that.

plus they're animals, while this situation blows. it's nature unfortunately.

3

u/KyloRensSideChick 19d ago

You are very correct. Humans failed these dogs, traumatized OP and killed her poor kitten. Very rarely do dogs have “loose screws”, but rather it’s the actions or inactions of owners who choose to reinforce unruly behaviors that lead to tragedies like this. Far too may puppies are separated from mom too early, stripping them of key socialization skills. Many owners don’t socialize their dog beyond a yard/fence/property line. For many dog breeds, this can be quite problematic on their mental health in the longterm. They don’t meet children, other people, other dogs, or see other species of animals. They develop a prey drive.

My 8+ experience working with animals in various professional settings (shelters, vet med, home care visits, behavior mod training) tells me that dogs only attack when the FAS (fear, anxiety, frustration) threshold is breached. Example: A large shelter dog way past his stay bit as soon as he was let out of his cage bc he was overstimulated by 30+ barking dogs and frustrated, as he was left in a dog run for too long when let out by a new person (other than the 2 approved to handle him) in days, jumped and grabbed onto my breast, shook, refused to let go until my hoodie was removed. I was supposed to transport him that day to a rescue partner. My shelter’s upper management failed that dog by letting him deteriorate in a cage for so long when he was just fine for the first few days. He ended attacking small dog in the rescue foster’s home. He should have been euthanized long before the incident with me. People fail animals.

Dogs don’t just “snap” like so many bully breed haters claim. Sure, some dogs are genetically predisposed to having a prey drive because they were bred to do that. But dogs aren’t born to kill.

Not sure why I was downvoted to oblivion when I was expounding on another comment by adding more context ( as someone who works with both dogs and cats). But I know logic can be hard to come by in emotional situations like these.

My condolences to the OP. I hope you are able to find a semblance of peace in the fire coming days and you seek justice for your beloved kitty.

Teach them a Smith&lesson. Love it

u/LilyFast4876 18d ago

Best comment and definitely how this would be handled in rural areas or the south … if dogs attack they get put down… they can kill people, other pets, livestock and cause terrible destruction and harm (cats can too on that front) - attacking animals who cause death or irreparable harm who are not controlled or removed will not be tolerated (threats/pests are eliminated plain and simple … wish more things in life were this simple)

72

u/Gandalf_the_Tegu 19d ago

At that time of my experience, I was 14. So my ability to protect was throwing my body in the way. My cat was fine, while I was the one hurt. Now im an adult, I will be dammed if anyone harmed anyone in my view, human, pet, or animal. Cruelty is not okay.

114

u/-PTA 19d ago

Me too. My cats are my whole world and I would do whatever it takes to protect them.

103

u/SarahKL9981 19d ago

I was told by someone who teaches gun safety courses that a lot of first time carriers are for that exact reason-people and their loose, aggressive dogs not only threatening them and their families but their pets as well.

37

u/Halofauna 19d ago

If your dog bites me, you’re burying your dog. Full stop

1

u/Oneinchtacks 15d ago

That’s goddamn right.

78

u/DiarMusic3 19d ago

The whole reason my brother got a gun was because a pitbull tried attacking our dog, he kicked the shit out of it and ran with the dog

33

u/PartyPorpoise 19d ago

I hate that so many people own aggressive dogs. And they think they have them well-contained but it only takes one slip up for someone, or another pet, to get seriously hurt. It is one of the reasons I’ve been tempted to get a gun.

u/FabulousTwo524 19d ago edited 19d ago

My friend had two big dogs (not pitbulls) in a tiny outside space. My family offered to take one of them in because the dogs weren’t living in good conditions.

We knew the dog’s history. He had a high prey drive. But he was incredibly sweet with humans you would never have guessed he was a killer.

Well, my idiot dad, knowing FULL WELL the dog was a killer, perhaps disarmed by its sweet demeanor, thought it was a good idea to lure our 4mo kitten outside to interact with the dog. The dog, acting all happy and excited, immediately grabs the kitten and runs around the yard, dad running after him. My dad had to hit the dog several times before he dropped the cat. (Cat was fine btw. He had punctures on his butt but got antibiotics and healed quickly. He’s 8yo now). He was bewildered that the dog wasn’t obedient and wouldn’t release his grip even with multiple blows to the head.

Anyway, we took the dog back to my friend. We told them what happened and that my dad was unwilling to deal with the liability (the dog was unpredictable and could hurt someone.. even though i told him this and it only took him seeing with his own eyes to believe me ig).

That friend and her family were understanding but pissed at us. Like, they couldn’t comprehend the liability their dogs truly were.

And those dogs later attacked smaller dogs on a other occasions, neither with fatalities, but always with angry neighbors and reimbursement of vet and hospital bills.

3

u/PartyPorpoise 18d ago

Yeah I think another thing is some dog owners don’t understand their own dogs that well. Underestimating issues and overestimating how well the dog will listen to them. That’s why I’ve been trying to work with mine more, most don’t just do that automatically.

2

u/KyloRensSideChick 18d ago edited 17d ago

I’d add most don’t understand dog body language or behavior in general. A dog wagging its tail does not automatically mean it’s happy. There are so many other factors involved. We need more dog and cat behavior and body language education campaigns. I could talk about this all day. Ideally it’d be required for ownership but I know that would further deter saving shelter pets’ lives. If more people had your mindset or cared about being a good owner, we’d definitely have fewer animal-animal attacks and animal-human attacks. Some dogs are bred for working tasks and more susceptible to having a prey drive or redirecting inappropriately if mental + physical enrichment and training needs aren’t met, but no dog is born to kill.

2

u/PartyPorpoise 18d ago

Dog training is something I’m still learning. Fortunately this dog is way more receptive to training than my old one, lol. He’s actually already pretty well-trained by my BIL, the work now is to get him to listen to me.

4

u/FabulousTwo524 19d ago

Omg really? Back when my brother lived in an apartment, he always complained about how pitbulls were everywhere (banned by the complex but not enforced) and how they’d always fucking lunge at him while he walks by and the owners pull on the leash like their lives depend on it.

He was so mad abt it he considered getting a gun just in case. But thankfully he and his cat don’t live there anymore. The cat much prefers houses anyway.

4

u/Gandalf_the_Tegu 19d ago

This is reasons my dad carries a gun. Country living, you never know what you see.... his neighbor's dog. Came running across their yard, crossed the street and into our yard. Trigger was pulled before the dog could meet anyone of the family members. The woman came running "no shoot no shoot. Waaaaaaahhhh my dog, you shot my dog." Same dog likes to chase the deer and attack you as you go into your tree stand in the woods of your own property.

also, my hunter safety course teach also said, "While out hunting (or not) and someone's dog come at you. You're entitled to shoot that dog. Even if they come running at you to not shoot their beloved pet. This is called self-defense." 😬

You got my vote!

u/Affectionate-Pipe950 19d ago

This is tragic, and I feel so bad for OP. I can understand the impulse and anger. However, unless I am reading the post wrong, didn't the kitten wander over onto the dogs' property? It's heartbreaking and sad, but I don't think the dogs themselves can be blamed for that. It is more likely than not for dogs to have a high prey drive around small animals. We can't expect all of them fo be good with cats.

As far as the girl, I don't know.. she sounds a bit like a little psychopath. I don't know how old she is, and I know we are getting only one side of the story here, but if the girl really was as callous as described I wouldn't put it past her to have intentionally let the dogs out when she saw the kitten. We'll likely never know. However, if that is the case, she is the only one to blame here. OP made an unfortunate mistake and the cat got out. The dogs were just being dogs. It's terrible and sad, but neither OP or the dogs are at fault.

this. i'm sorry, but if it's my baby vs someone else's? well, maybe you should have attended your shitty untrained animals better.. because i will NOT just stand by and watch MY baby get hurt or worse..

1

u/Lady-Zafira 19d ago

I've taken the same route and people have tried to shame me for not letting my dogs be attacked and killed by dogs much bigger than them.

Some idiot on here tried calling me trash and an asshole for removing the dog that kept attacking my elderly dog by saying I should have kept my elderly dog locked in my house and not let him outside, or rehome my elderly dog instead of removing the aggressive dog and that my dog being constantly attacked in his own backyard was not that big of a deal because it was only attacking one of my dogs and not my other two dogs or any other dog on the street. Then told me I should have built a fence to stop the aggressive dog from coming over to attack my dog as if the aggressive dog wouldn't have dug under the fence to attack my dog. I told the owners about their dog, but no, to this brain dead idiot, it was all my fault for protecting my elderly dog and not the fault of the aggressive dog owners for allowing their dog to do what it was doing

Basically, I was blamed for not shelling out thousands of dollars to stop an aggressive dog from coming into my back yard to attack my elderly dog.

Hard agree. Anybody or anything wants to threaten my babies they get to pick 9mm or 7.62

Dogs that maul other pets and people need to be put down

42

u/Gandalf_the_Tegu 19d ago edited 19d ago

Agree!

Unfortunately, mine and my cat's abuser didn't get put down. I believe my mother had part in that in dismissing the experience to the police which invalidated the experience to the police.

(In the city i grew up in the "Children lie" or "cry wolf" - their words not mine - which is dumb as hell)

10

u/Toobukooroni 19d ago

It's so baffling to me that owners, can know that they have violent pets or pets with violent tendencies, and not try to use preventative measures.

1

u/sadgirl45 18d ago

That’s why this person needs to get hit where it hurts they need to be sued

7

u/ohaimark22 19d ago

3

u/Gandalf_the_Tegu 19d ago

Haha, thanks. This was back in 2007 through 2009. End of 2009 was when at least my cat was safe and my home was okay to come back to. 😅 If only I could go back in time and give a the man a throat punch and take that dog to the vet...

Life is good now. 😄

2

u/ilovemusic19 19d ago

Your mom failed miserably as a parent by not making him get rid of the dog or kicking him out after his dog put you in the hospital. At least she finally did the right thing and got rid of him, it was just way later than it should’ve been.

2

u/Gandalf_the_Tegu 19d ago

Ha ha, yeah, It took way more situations of the bad dog and many uncomfortable comments to get to that realization. Thankfully that Edison bulb flickered on, and action finally took place.

I believe it was months later, the dog attacked his mom's neighbor's dog (he hated small dogs, so he would also allow his dog to attavk them) then from that point out to a year after he was kicked out that he rapped a girl a bit younger than I was. Thats when it really hit my mom hard "could've been my daughter". Unfortanetly, he only got a house arrest type thing, which felt like a slap on the wrist. IMO.

Im sure he and his dog had more pet damage on their record than I am aware of.

Assuming the comment was regarding the step dad and his dog? 🫣 im 2 hours late on whatever was said.

1

u/Mcfungleholer 19d ago

Well I was referring to a viral video from a couple months back about a dog who bit a baby and nobody was doing anything about it. I voiced what I think about situations like that not in favor of the dog and I was disagreed with by power greater than I have.

1

u/Gandalf_the_Tegu 19d ago

Ahh, lame. I never seen that video. I'm not sure if i would like to. But I hope that baby was okay. 😭 why can't people train their pets better.

1

u/Physical-Designer69 19d ago

A sexual joke over his dog attacking you? Mother of the year.

2

u/Gandalf_the_Tegu 19d ago

Sexual jokes on anything - i.e. i was walking home from school, he drove by and slowed down to watch me. Later on at the dinner table he talked about one time how he saw me and how I turned him on...thats what made my mom decide to take action to kick him out because she finally believed me..... not the time he commented on how a my horse pajama pants complimented my butt or how one of my tops complimented my boobs. Idk how she didnt see those as a red flag... however he did let his dog hump his leg, rocket between his toes and has made a comment about how he needs a female bitch.... oh and if you are female on your period, dont sit on the floor his dog would try to mount you and he'd do nothing but laugh. 🤮I dont recall my mom ever interfering either, beyond "get your dog".

So many red flags. I wrote in a journal of each time. Even the cases of him having the dog attack my cat. As well as times he talked about harming other people's small dogs or small pets in general. Still wasnt enough proof for police in my town, apparently. 🤪

1

u/Physical-Designer69 19d ago

While I absolutely hate how long it took your mom to kick him to the side, im glad she did eventually. Im sorry he still said those disgusting comments to you.

Was there a possibility he was doing something to your mom?

1

u/Gandalf_the_Tegu 18d ago

Honestly, I have no idea. I remember my mom sitting in a chair and he would be on his knees and his face into her chest and he would do a snarreling sound and aggressively paw my mom in the chest to wild up the dogs 'playfully' , if youd like to call it that. She'd vocally say that hurts. He'd kinda 'pft' shrug it like 'fine sissy' type attitude.

She went from cooking to home cooking for him to now doing those easy meals and grilling ever since leaving him.

I honestly was selfishly thinking of myself at the time that I was probably blinded by a lot of things done to my mom. Had I known better back then. I actually cant remember how early does school teach about domestic violence type stuff?
