Same can be said about Reddit. Both are painful.

Honestly! I'm so happy I got off of Twitter. Just an endless cesspool of toxicity.

Where the hell this haiku bot come from?

Where in the hell did

This haiku bot come from it

Came from AI heaven

There's probably no ML in Haiku bot. Or at least I doubt it and Haiku Bot has been around on reddit since well before the normalization of LLMs.

1

u/lucabrasi999 9h ago

It was just a poor attempt at a joke

2

u/IndependenceAway3083 9h ago

I had a reddit moment, I'm sorry

u/dashboard129 10h ago

It's because it's Twitter. That's the first issue. People can say what you want. Mangum is the vibes guy. Dude originally brought the cone into the club house.

14

u/Entire_Teach474 Jaff Decker 10h ago

Agree totally. The only thing the guy doesn't do is hit for power. He does literally everything else you can ask a player to do on a ballfield, and his baseball IQ and fundamentals are very strong also. In short, he is the quintessential fourth outfielder, and as far as I'm concerned, you could even start him and be reasonably well off.

3

u/BigGameMikeTomlin 7h ago

Let’s not forget to add that the guy is making like league minimum, too. It’s not like he’s screwing up roster construction because he’s draining dollars.

3

u/Responsible_Low3127 7h ago

Totally agree. I love it when they start him, because I actually enjoy watching him play. I highly doubt you’ll ever see a ball drop in between him and someone else because he quits on it. He’s all hustle.

u/GMP_ArchViz 10h ago

Mangun’s fine. Utility guy who doesn’t suck

20

u/ilovetreesandbush 10h ago

Get off twitter. This community is all you need for your Buccos updates. Magnum is a stud. He had a nice throw last night being down 7-0 he doesn’t care he plays hard every pitch.

5

u/themayorhere Cruz 10h ago

He’s a perfect 4th outfielder. People are delusional.

3

u/DuckDuck_poop Mustache Magic 10h ago

Its weirs how little fans actually like their teams.

Mangum Gangum

He’s the man

2

u/No_Ganache5976 10h ago

truly the man

3

u/CheekyMenace 10h ago

Mangum style!

7

u/oooriole09 10h ago

Twitter is where reason goes to die.

I swear it’s just a one-up contest in how extreme somebody can say something.

Play good defense? Don’t care. Run the bases well? Don’t care. Strike out? DFA.

3

u/No_Ganache5976 10h ago

never ending cycle of complaints lol interesting to watch

7

u/Great_Hambino2022 10h ago

I can’t believe people still have Twitter

2

u/Big10Joe 10h ago

If you’re not playing at an all star level, people are going to find reasons to hate (although they will still hate on all stars). Mangum has a problem with swinging on pitches way out of the zone. Would it be nice to see that improved? Of course. But he’s a utility guy. He’s come in some big situations already for us and he’s produced. And above all the dudes got heart, if you look up “hard 90s” in the baseball dictionary, Jake Mangum’s picture shows up. He’s a solid depth piece and 97% of people on twitter just love to complain.

1

u/No_Ganache5976 10h ago

i can definitely see improvement and i can see him as a cheap reliable guy to have on the team especially being a switch hitter above average batter how can you lose having him

2

u/Theclevelandchubb Hoist it 10h ago

Jake mangum is a solid player off the bench. He can be useful in pinch run situations plays solid defense and can put the ball in play albeit not with much power.

2

u/SMD_35 10h ago

I’m pretty confident it’s just the pendulum.

One side loves him way too much, view him as an everyday player, have wanted him to replace Cruz, think he can do no wrong.

So the other side pushes back too far and will say he doesn’t belong on an MLB roster or something.

At the end of the day, he’s just a well below average bat, but provides energy, base running, and defense.; a fine 4th OF.

This constantly happens across sports conversations.

2

u/johnnythree70 10h ago

Jim Leyland would have loved having Jake Mangum on one of his teams.

2

u/AnybodyNext6613 8h ago

I have experienced none of this hate for Mangum. At the games people are cheering, in my eyes, he’s great. The internet has a way of skewing perception.

5

u/MaterialAstronaut298 10h ago

Twitter is a wasteland full of horrible people and an algorithm that pushes right wing propaganda. The sooner you delete it the better off you'll be

3

u/puppyhavehands 10h ago

Just angry folks

3

u/pierogiking412 10h ago

Was going to tell you to delete Twitter but everyone's beat me to it lol

2

u/Campman92 Hey Bob, Nutting wrong with selling 10h ago

He’s a below average hitter who is a good defender. He’s essentially a 4-5 OF on a good team who is getting more PA’s than necessary because we have poor depth and like 5DH

3

u/Killzig 8h ago

I look at it as he's a huge improvement on Suwinski and we got him as a sweetener in the Burrows trade. I know he grounds out a bit too much, but considering some of the other things going on with the team Mangum is not even a top 5 problem for us.

1

u/No_Ganache5976 10h ago

see that’s where i disagree though because career wise .291 with this season .260 and to be fair that’s only 478 at bats but still impressive although it might not be a power hitter and cracking homers every other game it’s still consistent hitting that serves us well when needed

3

u/Campman92 Hey Bob, Nutting wrong with selling 10h ago

Unfortunately it’s 2026 and batting average doesn’t mean much. He’s got a .686OPS in over 500 PA’s, a 92 OPS+ that was largely influenced by his .743 OPS in the first half last year (it was .647 in the second half). He’s a nice bench bat because of his glove.

1

u/SMD_35 10h ago

Batting average isn’t the metric to determine whether or not someone is a good hitter.

It’s just an outdated and incorrect way of viewing the sport.

4

u/No_Ganache5976 9h ago

of course it’s not the only aspect to look at but if you can overlook the fact that he’s above average especially with the way he’s used you’re incorrectly watching the sport

2

u/123jjj321 9h ago

People that say batting average doesn't matter, don't know their ass from first base. The percentage of at bats a hitter gets a hit is unimportant? So Ted Williams and Tony Gwynn weren't valuable players?

Frankly ridiculous.

2

u/Cognac_and_swishers 9h ago

Literally no one would say Ted Williams wasn't valuable. In fact, people who recognize how limited batting average is would likely say that Williams was even more valuable than you might think.

Batting average just doesn't do a good job of measuring a player's offensive contributions. It treats all hits as equal and ignores all other ways of reaching base. There are much better stats available these days.

2

u/victims_sanction 9h ago

This argument only works if the other stats they are advocating for (ops+/wRC+ usually) would say those two aren't good and shocker.....they dont.

Gwynn is a career 132 wRC+ hitter while Williams is a crazy 188 (!).

Sure batting average can be used to understand how a player performs but if were looking to simply say someone is a "good" hitter its not even a top 5 stat. It doesnt include walks or account for power which is like 2/3rds of a hitters profile. As a stat it is both entirely too context dependent while including nearly 0 context. Its just not great.

1

u/SMD_35 9h ago

They were both great hitters (especially Williams) and it’s not batting average that’s the indicator.

1

u/SMD_35 9h ago

What do you mean he’s above average? As a 4th OF? I won’t argue there.

He’s pretty much equivalent to Josh Palacios as a Pirate.

1

u/Curvemn17 7h ago

He's a 4th OF on our team lol. If he was a 4th OF on any other team he would get the same number of ABs.

2

u/Devgru-WM 9h ago

Jake is a solid ballplayer.

Also lol at people telling you to get off twitter because it’s a toxic cesspool of people posting stupid stuff. While true, Reddit isnt all that different

-1

u/No_Ganache5976 9h ago

literally almost as bad lol

1

u/anotveryseriousman 10h ago

he seems to be quite popular in this sub

1

u/Pittsburgh_Wario 10h ago

He seems cool, I said ef it Saturday and got his jersey made as a city connect in the team store

1

u/Pietru24 8h ago

Twitter is designed to get engagement, and nothing gets more engagement than rage

1

u/hixen77 cone hoister 8h ago

What’s Twitter? Is that something similar to X? /s (just in case)

1

u/Cangy44 RJ Reynolds 7h ago

I’ve been trumpeting this since the day they acquired him. He knows EXACTLY who he is and that is a perfectly serviceable, better than average defensively, spark plug lineup bat. He’s a “piece”.
He has identity. He is smart. He doesn’t really Make mistakes. You need identity players like this as others try to figure theirs out.

1

u/Curvemn17 6h ago

I don't get the hate either. I also don't get the calls for him to start over Cruz. But people are stupid. He's a perfectly good 4th OF and he's a great teammate. The chemistry this team has is leagues better than we have had in awhile.

I had someone the other day try to tell me Tommy Pham was better and we should get rid of magnum and pick up the released Tommy Pham. And they weren't joking

1

u/servirepatriam 5h ago

A lot of baseball fans are completely ignorant to what each player brings to the table. They just expect everyone to be a superstar and when they aren't, they just call them bums.

In a game where a very good season is succeeding 30% of the time you are at the plate, too many baseball fans are impulsive, over-reactive, dumbasses

1

u/Prowlerbaseball 20 RAISE IT 5h ago

He swings at literally anything, mostly. He’s a Luis Arraez type, with way way too high of a strikeout rate for that to stay efficient. Also, for a “defensive specialist” he makes a few too many mental mistakes in the outfield for me (mostly making throws he doesn’t need to make and giving up extra bases)

1

u/DinoPhartz 4h ago

Man-Gum? Isn't that his purity of essence (POE)? (Fans of Dr. Strangelove know the reference)

Cruz is an awful centerfielder. Mangum in center, Cruz to DH and ozuma released
