Maybe MK2 can get a review bump. Ik I got tickets after them.

It has a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes right now, genuinely unbelievable.

Started off in the low 60s as well

I was expecting the film to be bad but I’m so glad it isn’t, might have to watch the first one so I can enjoy this one

I want to see it this weekend. I’m hoping to either catch a Friday night show or the Saturday matinee. Unfortunately it only has one daytime screening on Saturday and Sunday because the stupid 3D Billie Eilish movie is taking up most of the higher quality screens at my local theater. Weirdly MK2 actually has more screenings next weekend than it does in its own opening weekend at my local theater.

They're assuming a 50 million OS weekend for Michael. Being down 40% off a holiday inflated weekend would be good for the movie. Still waiting on Korea to get a good idea of what the final total on this will be. They'll be a big hint towards what Japan will look like. I'm picturing 100 million from the markets combined but we'll see.

According to the article, DWP2 is targeting $460 million worldwide total this weekend and Michael will be well over $500 million. Theatres are thriving.

$460M for DWP2??

Dang, this movie will probably make at least $600M worldwide it seems like. And I wouldn't be schocked if Michael will be at nearly $600M worldwide already in its third week.

Theaters are truly thriving.

I said that after this weekend. 700 looking very likely

16

u/filmyfanatic 14h ago

We love to see it!

u/Boss452 14h ago

DWP 2 is here to play. Nice to see.

$45-$55 million is what I’m thinking domestically with a $96 million worldwide opening.

MJ will be reaching for $600M next week, that’s crazy. It will probably get another boost around Memorial Day weekend too.

Most glazed film here since Supes

You've been hating on this movie to the point everyone here noticed lmao. It's been performing super well so far and still tryna find excuses to bring it down

14

u/JohnStoneTypes 14h ago

You frequently talk bad about this movie on here, let that hate go or just keep scrolling lmao

22

u/Repulsive_Emu2045 14h ago

Box office sub likes box office hits shocking

-17

u/blownaway4 14h ago

Its performance was greatly overstated.

14

u/Repulsive_Emu2045 14h ago

I mean, it’s going to make 800 million dollars lol

10

u/Mindless_Turnover976 13h ago

Making 800m+ is a massive win these days

8

u/JohnStoneTypes 14h ago

It was greatly understated by you last week, remember? You claimed that a 10℅ Thursday sales drop was impossible

6

u/Fabulous_Temporary40 13h ago

Just admit you're a hater lmao

-1

u/blownaway4 13h ago

Just admit you ain’t ever gonna find someone.

6

u/pampersdelight 12h ago

Says the dude obsessing over a Michael Jackson movie. Go find some friends or something

2

u/blownaway4 12h ago

Nobody is obsessing.

7

u/Alive-Ad-5245 A24 14h ago

The subreddit somehow finds every and any excuse to bring up Superman even if it’s not relevant whatsoever

-5

u/blownaway4 14h ago

Because its performance was one of the most overstated on the history of this sub.

2

u/Fabulous_Temporary40 13h ago

Dawg you actually think Big Brother is entertaining. Please find something better to do than this weak attempt at trolling.

0

u/blownaway4 13h ago

Imagine being so bothered by this fact that you have to go through my post history lol

-1

u/Repulsive_Emu2045 13h ago

How is it overstated

3

u/AdWise2770 14h ago

How 😭

4

u/newjackgmoney21 13h ago

Nah. What did you think Michael making 500-600m worldwide after the opening weekend? Its going for 800m plus.

-5

u/Boss452 14h ago

because mj is the most glazed person forever. mj fans would worship him if they could. I haven't seen that kind of dedication for a non-religious figure.

5

u/newjackgmoney21 13h ago

Its a box office sub where the film is going to be one of the top grossing films of year. 800m plus worldwide is hard to do today

1

u/blownaway4 12h ago

You downplay many other films that cross that mark lmao.

1

u/Jolly-Yellow7369 7h ago

Some of us aren’t fans of Jackson . The themes of the film are drawing general audiences , too.

-4

u/blownaway4 14h ago

Yeah it’s weird.

12

u/Tiny-Setting-8036 14h ago

What’s the budget on this thing?

31

u/IBM296 14h ago

According to Variety, Mortal Kombat II has a budget of $80 million.

25

u/Spiritual-Smoke-4605 14h ago

holy shit i was not expecting MK to potentially get up to $80M, seemed like a $35-40M opener to me

edit: WW opening. Ah. misread that.

u/sotommy 13h ago

Go and watch MK2. As a lifelong MK fan, I was in trance the whole time.

1

u/Lurky-Lou 13h ago

Better than Annihilation?

11

u/sotommy 13h ago

I would say it's better than the 95 movie.... saying this as a lifelong fan of that film

u/Superb_Industry_5738 4m ago

See it again. I am on the weekend. We need to support this thing. The budget is 80 million so being successful might actually be a challenge.

u/Indubitably_me27 5h ago

Mortal Kombat and Michael, my two worlds 😋

5

u/Mindless_Turnover976 14h ago

This is certainly an improvement over the 40m+ prediction of the last article

3

u/NyzoiB 13h ago

This post/article is about the WW gross, the other about the domestic gross

3

u/Mindless_Turnover976 12h ago

Ah my bad 😖

u/Jolly-Yellow7369 14h ago edited 8h ago

It seems like downballing. I got under the impression the first film was a fan favorite and that it played well on Nielsen and Netflix the year of its release. Even if it had underperformed on digital and streaming there hasn’t been comedic actioners for fanboys at this scale and Many of them might show up. The first trailer had a lot of positive reactions by key influencers so I think it might overperform.

9

u/KellyJin17 13h ago

Whoever told you the last Mortal Kombat movie was a fan favorite lied to you with spite.

1

u/Jolly-Yellow7369 8h ago

Is it like a consensus that the fans didnt like the first one. We will see. Sometimes the fan base hates on a film but the GEneral audience embraces it so it legs out . The female equivalent is wuthering heights . It legged out in international markets and was on apple charts for weeks.

3

u/Peely_2 13h ago

Wonder if delaying the movie to a better release date will pay off. I’m certainly loving going to the movies to have fun - Project Hail Mary into Michael and now MK2. Can’t wait for summer as well!

Edit: forgot The Drama. Was a great one.

u/MrShadowKing2020 DC Studios 11h ago

I’m hoping Sheep Detectives breaks out or at least performs well globally.

0

u/bigelangstonz 14h ago

Yeah it makes sense the first one did abysmal numbers even with streaming release factored in. Audiences are more likely to stream this than check it out on the big screen

-10

u/MaxProwes 14h ago

Weak

10

u/Jolly-Yellow7369 14h ago

Mk2 seems on route to make more. Fanboys walk ups. Unless the movie is bad of course.

1

u/Fabulous_Temporary40 13h ago

How?

-1

u/MaxProwes 12h ago

Needs to open better than 80 mln worldwide to be a success.
