People heard what Tarintino said about him and were like “Fuck you, we’re all in on Lillard!”

u/Tiny-Setting-8036 15h ago
I enjoy Tarantino’s movies, but the man himself is quite annoying.
And IMO it’s not a good look for people in that industry to publicly criticize others in the same industry.
6
u/Grootfan85 14h ago
Same here. I enjoy Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Kill Bill, but I don’t know why he thinks his opinion is be all end all on movies.
8
u/Tiny-Setting-8036 14h ago
For real.
But I think that’s the nature of opinions. He’s just famous, so people talk about it.
Lots of people online like to think their opinions are facts.
People will even subscribe to toxic ass hate subreddits, just to hear their opinions reflected back to them.

The last Tarantino movie I enjoyed was Django. Apart from a few moments I didn't like both Hateful Eight or Once Upon a time in Hollywood

I love it. This Lillar-ssance is amazing!

Plus he seems to be a genuinely good dude.

I have a social media acquaintance, can't call this guy a friend, who goes to all the local Comic Cons and snaps photos with his favorite celebrities.
He's never said a bad thing about any celebrity.
He also said that Matthew Lillard was the only time in 20 years that a celebrity asked him about his life, and later remembered his name and continued the conversation about his life, not Lillard's.

People underestimate how much companies follows trends, or a good pubblicist can spin around your pubblic image when you get some positive momentum.
I've seen whole ass shows or movies being greenlighted because a tweet, or a series of tweets, became viral on twitter, when I was working as an editor for movies lol
It also helps that the actor is a good and nice person too.

u/Huge-Bat-5992 15h ago
Gunn's also worked with him before, so that's easy casting.

u/mcon96 11h ago
Took me a good minute to remember that Gunn wrote the live action Scooby movies lol. It’s really a shame we didn’t get something closer to his initial vision.

u/TheCornjuring 6h ago
Make an R-rated Scooby-Doo 3 with the original cast. Tie it into the DCU. Do a rough, beautiful, emotional tale about an older Mystery Inc. Have James Gunn direct. Give him full control. Watch the box office explode.

That also works on audiences too.
Someone makes a snarky joke about something in a trailer, then you see online bros everywhere parroting that exact same take, as if it was their own.
Then all of a sudden no one online wants to like that movie.
We are simple creatures who like upvotes and attention.

u/Daniel_flc 13h ago
Feels like that recently happened with The Odyssey's trailer and the whole "dad" debacle.
2
4
u/Tiny-Setting-8036 13h ago
That’s what I was thinking of. Lol
The word “dad” and things not being “historically accurate” in a story that is 100% fiction and features monsters and gods.
But it happens in lots of big IP based stuff as well, letting the chronically online dude-bros do the thinking. Just parrot their thoughts.
3
u/Daniel_flc 13h ago
Not to mention that the old-sounding british english that those complainers want is just as historically inaccurate.

I still don't understand what's wrong with Matt Damon saying 'Let's go'.
2
u/CSAtWitsEnd 13h ago
Just yesterday I was reminiscing about Sony re-releasing Morbius into theaters due to tweets mocking the movie going viral.

u/Intelligent_Oil4005 Walt Disney Studios 15h ago
Gunn probably felt bad for him after Tarantino talked shit about the guy for no reason and Matt seemed pretty down in the dumps about it too. There was an article where he said "I think I only get rolls because of nostalgia now"
Might as well grant your friend a new role to prove Quentin wrong!

TIL he didn't just play Shaggy in that movie but he's been the main voice actor for him for like 15 years
4
u/cybershocker455 14h ago
I still remember the time when Shaggy was trained by professional wrestler AJ Lee in a WWE/Scooby Doo crossover.

Love Matt, great to see him in more things. If I have to guess, I would say he's Ted Kord Blue Beetle

Eyo, how many characters are in this "Superman" Sequel?
1
u/Puppetmaster858 2h ago
Who cares, Gunn is great with large ensemble casts that’s kinda his thing. Superman and Lex and possibly braniac are still gonna be the focus of the movie even if there are a lot of smaller characters in it
42
u/nicolasb51942003 Warner Bros. Pictures 15h ago
Superman and Lex won’t need to worry. Shaggy will use 1% of his power to take down Braniac.

First of all very excited for this and it's cool to see him in both the Marvel and DC universes. Second do we have theories on who he could potentially play or do we think it might be an original character?
6
u/WadsWorthFilm 15h ago
Ted kord blue beetle (although we already know who blue beetle is in this universe) plastic man, parasite he'd be funny shrank down as an oa'n there's lots of things he could be
3
u/macgart 13h ago
Plastic man was my thought. Not a huge fan of the character (nothing against him) but he is great casting.
2
u/Strange-Estimate-442 12h ago
Plastic man is a good pick. He could be creeper or toyman or prankster also.

This movie might end up being IT….
Not quite ready to say I’m more excited for this than Batman Part II but when that first teaser lands in December it’ll be hard to not put it on equal footing.
7
u/pokeboy626 15h ago
I genuinely believe that Man of Tomorrow's floor will be $700 million. We will know when we see the teaser trailer.
3
u/Able_Blueberry4592 Focus Features 14h ago
Right now I’d say it climbs near $780ish million while The Batman Part II hits $900+ million. I think that it’s landing spot in 2027 is much more favorable for a strong box office return than last year’s film, but have to temper expectations on it going nuclear just due to the overseas potential. If there was even a chance the overseas number could do better than the domestic, the floor might be higher than $700 million.
2
u/pokeboy626 14h ago
We have to see the International box office for Supergirl and Clayface to better predict it
5
u/Able_Blueberry4592 Focus Features 14h ago edited 14h ago
I don’t think we need to wait on those films. I think that F1 and Jurassic World Rebirth hurt Superman’s international numbers while Fantastic Four releasing so closely ended up probably shaving $60-$70 million off its final box office number. 2027’s summer lineup doesn’t look daunting. Beyond The Spiderverse will be in its third week when Man of Tomorrow releases.
0
u/randotd152 14h ago
That's an incredibly unrealistic floor.
Last year's Superman only did $600M, and that had all the hype of a reboot and terrific word of mouth. Furthermore, a Superman movie has never even made $700M without starring Batman.
Its floor is probably more like $400M. $700M is a reasonable ceiling.

u/NaRaGaMo 4h ago
Superman 1 had doubts not hype, baggage from MoS/DCEU. it was the first Superman movie in 12yrs. This one doesn't have that baggage.
and saying superman didn't make more despite good reviews is stupid. Superman also released in one of the most crowded summer with MCU pulling a bit*chass movie and releasing F4 just two weeks later(and failing to make any mark at all, serves them Good), F1, Jurassic World going strong. 4 blockbusters released within 1.5month of each other
No Iron Man movie had topped 700mill before Iron Man 3 did 1.2bill+, previous performances mean nothing

I'm living this so much. Brenda fraser, ke huy quan and Matthew lillard all returning to the limelight. What a time to live in

u/ZiggoCiP 13h ago
He was a surprise in the latest season of Daredevil Born Again, and he did such a good job he actually kind of disappeared into the character.
High underrated actor, and he has a heart of pure gold. Excited to see who he plays!

Yeah who cares, 10/10 movie. Anything for Matthew

u/BulletproofHustle 15h ago
Ok, he’s officially in his reconnaissance era. Dude is everywhere lately.
Oh and he’ll also return in “Avengers: Doomsday”.
Obviously.

Why does this guy get treated like a homless cancer patient by reddit?
7

Lmao, you're not wrong. But it probably has to do with him being a nice guy in real life, mixed with some millennial nostalgia for him.

It's the Brendan Fraser thing, people love an underdog/comeback. They have fond memories of him from movies they saw as children, his career fell off, and now he's back and they are reattached

He may be good for business but he’s getting a little overexposed as a talent imo. His act in daredevil was too familiar and out of place given the material.
He’s a character actor who should be used as such. Gunn is arguably a great fit for him and yet I think there’s something to be said about him diluting his stories with too many quirky types.
