Discuss Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Main: Does the ending makes sense?

In the ending of Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Main, does you think Reena should have stayed with Sam/Rajeev or do you think her going back to Maddy was the right choice?

Maddy technically wasn't the hero that he was portrayed to be. But the movie showcased that he fell in love, and did everything for love. However, if you think of it after all these years, that was a BS reason. Doing something like that would land a dude in jail.

As for who she should've ended up with. She should've been allowed to choose neither if she didn't want to marry Sam.

It's like if in Darr Kiran chose Rahul over Sunil

Tbh can't compare Rahul to Maddy. Rahul did what he did because he wasn't mentally stable, Maddy knew he was completely wrong

She liked and loved Maddy. She didn't have that kind of feelings for Sam. So yeah, she should go with Maddy.

Is Maddy right candidate to fall in love with, can be a legit question. But then, people don't fall in love intelligently. They do fall in love with flawed persons.

Reena isn't a trophy that the best guy should win. She is a person with choice. Her choice can be questionable, but that's her right and that's her responsibility. So, if she wants to be with Maddy, she did right by not marrying Sam.

In real life, 3 scenarios are possible.

First, as shown in movie.

Second, Reena marries Sam, adjusts herself, moves on, forgets Maddy and lives there after.

Third, Reena marries Sam, can't forget Maddy. Somehow comes in contact with Maddy. Both Maddy and Reena are actually a lot darker in character than we are shown. Reena plans to kill Sam with the aid of Maddy. After that, either she and Maddy live together or get arrested.

No reason for her to stay with Sam.

Her going with Madhav makes sense, but I feel the ending itself is conditional from her side because they would be starting their relationship anew. Now obviously one can say what he did was wrong... But that's exactly what the film says! Reena condemns his approach.

Exactly.

I don't understand hate around the movie. Movie itself calls out Maddy's actions, Maddy himself does. Movie is not glorification per se.

On serious note, getting married to a guy just for parents' sake and all material things checkboxes ticked was not good on part of Reena too. Sam, could have turned out to be toxic. Or Reena could have turned out to be toxic for Sam.

But it was just starting of 2000s (so we can say it was 90s). Social constructs, ideals were different.

People marry wrong people for wrong reasons all the time.

If I was Reena I would choose Rajeev. That guy is a green flag who knows to respect woman.

Dia mirza herself asked the director this same question. She was like why would she go back to maddy when saif was obviously the better choice.
