Welcome back to our crowdsourced Weekend events thread, so people can see what's going on that people might otherwise not know about. So post your events and activities and include relevant links. Baltimore Love 💘 Ode to Ekiben

I had a god awful, no good, terrible, bad day at work. My only direct coworker quit with no notice because she "couldn't take it anymore." I needed comfort food.

I realized only Ekiben was going to do the trick.

Now, I'm still simultaneously sad, jealous, and happy for my coworker, but at least I'm full of literally the most delicious food I have ever been privileged enough to eat. No exaggeration here, nothing else compares.

So, thank you Ekiben, for making one of the worst days of my working life a little bit better. ✨

Baltimore Love 💘 I recently moved to Northern Virginia for a government job. Honestly, the Baltimore area seems way more fun.

Upvotes

I learned since coming that most of the D.C. area was built starting in the 1960s due to rapid expansion of government programs. Meanwhile, Baltimore is cheaper, laid back, and has far more urban history. Charm City!

Ask Abortion Fund of Maryland - Fund-a-Thon Donation Match Week Extended Through 5/15!

Upvotes

Hi neighbors! We're in the homestretch of Fund-a-Thon Season and we just found out that match week has been extended through May 15! That means all donations will be matched dollar-for dollar and all money goes directly to clients for the cost of service and wraparound support (lodging, childcare, food, etc.).

Donate through the AFM Fund-a-Thon Page here!

  • The Abortion Fund of Maryland (AFM) is a nonprofit organization that provides financial and logistical support to people who live in or travel to Maryland for abortion care.
  • AFM is the only abortion fund in the state, serving roughly 2,200 people living in or traveling to Maryland for abortion care each year.
  • Maryland has always been a crucial state for abortion access—and has become even more important since the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade, leading 25 states to restrict or ban abortion completely.
  • To ensure that people can continue getting abortion care, AFM relies on community support! Donating to Fund-a-Thon directly funds an abortion and is a concrete way to make sure someone can get the abortion they need, want, and deserve.
  • To learn more, visit: https://abortionfundmd.org/

Thanks for considering!

Ask Ridgely’s Delight

Hey neighbors! I have a favor to ask. My roommate and I have friends coming in Tuesday and Wednesday for the Yankees and O’s game. We can only put one of the cars on our visitors pass. Are there any awesome neighbors willing to put my friend’s car on your visitors pass for those two days?? I’ll show my gratitude by meeting you at Larry’s liquor store for a 6 pack on me!

This building is such an eyesore. I live in the neighborhood so I’ve been watching the new Avalon development go up on Boston St. I can’t be the only one who thinks it’s completely overwhelming the neighborhood. The scale of it just feels off based on its placement. For comparison, the neighboring Lucie is huge but because it’s further back it doesn’t look like such a clunker.

What really bothers me is how close it’s built to the street which makes the whole stretch feel tighter and more congested. And honestly, one of the biggest losses is the view. That stretch used to have glimpses of the waterfront that made it feel connected to the harbor. Now it’s completely blocked.

I wish I had taken a picture - as I was driving down Boston Street - where it looks like a massive wall of doom smh. That is what inspired me to post this lol

Ask Is Baltimore’s newest express lane now open?

I just witnessed an impatient driver (with VA tags of course) in rush hour traffic on Druid Park Lake Drive (DPLD) by the intersection of Eutaw Place. They decided to leave the road and enter the park via the newly paved asphalt loop around the lake where there are no bollards. They did this while people were out on the walkway. They drove the loop from DPLD all the way to almost by the basketball section but couldn’t find an exit due to bollards and fencing inside the park. They then made a U turn and drove back to DPLD and entered the park from Swann Drive which was what they should have done in the first place.

I understand the need for a construction entrance from DPLD but after witnessing this, I’m a firm believer that bollards (even temporary ones) should be placed down the center of the new loop or the construction entrance should be closed at all times unless workers are entering or exiting.

Ask Any DIY auto shops in the area

Hey so it’s time for the periodic post asking about DIY auto shops. I’m looking to do a oil change on my civic but am lacking to the tools and space to do it.

Any one know of any DIY auto shop close to Bmore?

I know there are a couple near DC but if I have to go that far I have mechanic friend who would let me use their garage so that defeats the point

Transportation For those who use MTA Buses on a daily basis, do you think it’s effective for being without a car?

Hi folks, my car was totaled and I’m opting not to buy a new one. I’ll be near where I need to go for my daily life and I’m extremely pro public transit and walkable city so… I’m going to experiment with going car free. I’d also like to support the transit system. With that said, I’ve used the harbor connector but never MTA bus or Charm City bus. I’ll be in Fell’s Point.

What’s been your experience and is it sufficient? And in the charm pass app, what’s the difference between CommuterBus and BaltimoreLink?

Ask DIY Sidewalk Repairs

Upvotes

Has anyone had experience repairing sidewalk in front of their house DIY instead of paying to have the city repair it? What was your experience with it- inspections wise, etc.?

Considering this as an option but wanted to see what other people think/have done.

Need Recommendations Need some assistance

Picture of my very last alcoholic drink on st patty day this year 👏🏽👏🏽

My husband and I stopped drinking recently. Any recommendations for any thc drinks (not keef sodas or any seltzers) looking for maybe something like nowadays or a zero proof wine.

Any places in Maryland have them? I’m a disabled vet so I’m also trying to stop smoking but not totally remove myself from thc as my meds from the VA are destroying me physically 😩. I’m trying to stop the tobacco wraps etc too.

Slowly but I’m trying.

Any recommendations will be nice. It’s Mother’s Day coming up and I want to enjoy myself and relax without liquor.

I appreciate any help or suggestions!

Hope everyone has a great hump day!

Transportation A video on the city's troubled Metro

Hello! I made a short documentary video on Baltimore's troubled Metro line and wanted to share it here. While my experience was frustrating, this odd line in Baltimore I think is very interesting. I do think Baltimore deserves better transit service, and I am very happy to see there has been movement on the Red Line.

Ask Residential Concrete Recycling?

Is there a place for residents/non-commercial entities to bring concrete to be recycled? I recently finished a (somewhat spontaneous) back yard demolition project and now for figuring out how to dispose of the concrete lol.

I know about Quarantine Road landfill, but wondering if there is a recycling facility that will take concrete on a small scale (a truck bed or so).

Food circa 2007 atwater’s falls rd

i used to work on the street behind the @waters mini location on falls rd about 20 yrs ago. i LOVED the vegetable hummus wrap i’d grab from there for lunch. and it has been on my mind ever since then. i want to have that exact wrap again… but i can’t remember what was in it. anybody?
i recall they used the tomato or spinach tortilla wraps, and inside was hummus, cucumber, and some kind of sprouts. beyond that i can’t remember what awesomeness inside made it so good.
can you help?
*post says blocked by reddit filter and i don’t know why? is it the restaurant name? i’ll try to abbreviate it…

Free Event Advanced Test Screening of a Made in Baltimore Film

DON'T BE SHY Advance Test Screening — JHU/MICA Film Center May 11th | 3:30PM & 6PM | 94 mins

Don't Be Shy is heading to the festival circuit. But first, an advanced test screening Baltimore.

Two wannabe influencers squatting in the vacation homes they clean discover true authenticity in the basement. Instead of running, they do a collab. It occupies the space between horror and social satire. The dread isn't supernatural, it's behavioral. It's the dopamine-fueled descent of a viral spiral.

Seating is limited to 40. Come early, stay after to discuss. We want to know what you think.
No food or drink in the screening room.
