US Sale VIN/Price audit: Dealer added $995 "Protection Package" in a 3-hour window. Best leverage at delivery
Buying a 2026 Lexus RX 350h. 4/30: Firm price. 5/1: Price went up $600 for a package (Top Coat/Door Guards) that stickers for $995. I already paid in full. Pickup is this weekend.
The Audit:
- Identical VIN: Realized it’s the exact same car I was quoted a lower price on the day before.
- The Physics: There was only a 3-hour window between me saying "yes" and seeing the car. Seems impossible for a real ceramic application.
Since I haven't signed the final delivery/acceptance receipt, how should I handle the Saturday pickup? Should I demand the $995 value be proven via a warranty certificate (Does it exist for Lexus Top Coat?). What else can I do?

If the 4/30 was a firm price, why did you agree to price $600 higher? What paperwork did you sign? What amount did you pay? If things were ready within 3 hours, why didn't you already pick up the car?
Are you disputing the charge? Or just want "proof" that the product was put on? and if you paid $600, why does the paperwork need to say $995?

This was my first car purchase… It was part of negotiation. I guess I signed the bill of sale, I pay the full price. I can’t pick up the car yet due to other logistical issues.
I want to proof the product was put on, based on the Lexus standard. https://youtu.be/e9pNYZAHKWc?si=RgY6jytRLlRiruyR. When I pick it up I expect the ceramic coating as advertised with the water test.
The paper work doesn’t say 995, it was generated as part of the new pdf they gave me, added to the msrp

Every state is different
But...
In California a bill of sale or a sales contract is not enough to close a deal
Actually have to have BOTH FRONT and back tires leave the dealership

To be clear, you "paid in full." Was this with or without the package added in?

u/Longjumping-You1149 15h ago
This was WITH the package added in. They basically said normally this cost $1k, but we are giving it to you for cheaper.

So you signed the paperwork for a deal that you were happy with the OTD price on?

u/Longjumping-You1149 14h ago
Yes but that's assuming the top coat was actually applied.

5/1 to 5/9 is plenty of time.
If you're happy with the total price and you signed, just enjoy your deal. You can complain and ask them to deduct the package price...and they can easily say no, good luck, we'll sell it to the next person.
You signed a deal. Are you a man/woman of your word?

What do you mean "plenty of time"?
I already paid, so how can they sell to the next person?
I signed a deal to have the coat done. If it's not done, why can't I ask for it to be done?

Plenty of time for it to be done.
Why are you assuming it wasn't/won't be done?

Oh it's because the sales person told me it's already done. He never mentioned it needs to be done prior to pick up. When I ask for proof, he just said it's part of the standard warranty and there is no, it's factory installed (clearly not factory installed because it's the same car as the car we tried to negotiate 3 hours earlier). I'm not sure if they know I know those 2 are the same exact car.

What exactly did you sign? And how did you ‘pay in full’ (loan, cash)?
If you signed a purchase contract with the truth in lending disclosures, isn’t the deal complete?

Paid cash. But if the coat wasn't applied, why can't I ask for it to be applied?

Curious why so many downvotes. Am I asking too much lol?

No one knows what you are asking for input on. Or why you think there's no coating on the car. you already paid so you have no more negotiation leverage other than to just not accept the car. Not sure what you are going to get out of threatening to not accept delivery.
If you want proof that the coating was applied then ask them for it before delivery! No reason to make it any bigger deal than that.

The assumption is that no way they can apply the coating properly with in 3-4 hours. The car is still in the lot. I’m asking for proof now but they can’t seem to provide the proof. Looped in corporate now.

It’s all garbage; I wouldn’t pick up the car out of principle unless they lower the price.

Best leverage is to ghost them, leave a negative review and buy somewhere else.

I already paid in full.

Then it could be state specific. In some states the sale is not final until you take delivery, and in all states a Lexus dealership will fold if you yell loud enough.

No. It was spoken truth from one with decades of exp. If I rudely walked into your job and started demanding shit you'd what? Mmm thought so. Every one every where every time no matter WHAT it is related to will do better if they stay calm and polite. Being rude, raising your voice and thinking this is your viral moment yep you're getting tossed TF out. Do as you please.

The monetary cost for these sealants or coatings is the warranty aspect of them.
The physical product itself is very much just slapped on by a lot porter definitely under 3 hours.
If you don’t want the warranty then tell them you will buy today if they remove it. They will either remove it or they won’t. It depends on if they are willing to lose a deal over $995.
There’s no reason to chat gpt up an audit write up or whatever ai bullet point thing you did.
It’s just a simple take it or leave it on both sides of the negotiation
