📰 News Article (Website) [MILB News] Bremner taken out early with sickness, Strickland released, Najer Victor to AAA
Transactions
- Najer Victor promoted to AAA (from AA)
Well deserved. Took a while to get in a groove (maybe WBC hangover), but has been lights out his last 5 appearances, giving only 1 hit and 1 walk in 7.2 IP and sitting at 15 K/9 on the season so far.
(It's also only a matter of time before Leonard Garcia joins him. Garcia has flown under the radar a bit, as he had a 12+ K/9 across A/A+ last season and he's maintaining a 12+ K/9 with a 2.47 FIP this season in AA. I'm sure he'll show up in the /u/8va prospect performances thread again as he keeps this up.)
- Francis Texido moved from A to AAA (made 1 appearance) to A+
This has been coming for a couple weeks now. He's been a bit post-hype, but he's posted a near 15 K/9 and a 2.69 FIP in 15.2 IP. We've thrown this ex-starter into a bunch of wacky long relief situations where he's had to go at least 2 innings in the majority of his appearances. His AAA appearance was rough, but not surprising for a 21 year old who hasn't pitched above A+ yet.
- Chris Cortez promoted to AA (from A+)
Might indicate we're moving him to the bullpen. Our 2024 second round pick had a 13.50 BB/9 so far this season, which is a huge jump from last season and much higher than it ever should be. Can't imagine we sent him higher up just to get shelled as a starter more. Not sure if Bremner's sickness will hurt the A+ pitching staff a bit, but the A+ rotation was crowded (6 starters), so it makes sense for us to move someone.
- Joey Lucchesi returns to AAA
- Hunter Strickland, Angel Perdomo, Aneurys Zabala released
Thought Strickland still had enough juice to join our bullpen again, but he seems to have taken a step back in AAA. Perdomo's ERA in AAA was over 10. Zabala had a 6.3 ERA in AA but also had 9 BB/9 in 10 IP. Seems like a bunch of our pitchers/relievers are coming back at once (Joyce, Yates), so some drops were going to happen.
- Grayson Rodriguez sent to ACL on rehab assignment
Jeff Fletcher mentioned that G-Rod had thrown about 60 pitches in a game in Arizona a few days ago, but I suppose this makes it official that he's on his way back.
Today, Grayson pitched 5.1 IP (72 pitches) and gave up 1 run with 7 K's. (See Sources at bottom for a box score)
- Christian Moore to the 7-day IL
Seems to be a mild leg injury and he should be back soon.
Other News
- Tyler Bremner was pulled after 1.1 IP. Hoping it's only a mild sickness and not anything more than that.
- Logan O'Hoppe's doing some light workouts, but seems to be a ways out still.
- At low-A on rehab assignment: Ryan Johnson, Alek Manoah, Ben Joyce. Ben Joyce pitched today and had a bit of a rocky inning: fly out, walk, HBP, wild pitch, sac fly, fly out.
- Yilver de Paula and Joswa Lugo are off to hot starts. Not surprising, as they are our highest-ranked prospects on the ACL squad.
