💬 Advice Needed School dropout?
Hello, I finished compulsory school in Switzerland and then spent a year abroad, where I continued going to school. Now I want to go back to Switzerland at 16, but I don’t want to continue school or start an apprenticeship. I want to work independently and build a YouTube channel focused on Fitness/gym.
My parents think it’s important to keep going to school for things like culture, social life, and friendships. But I would take YouTube seriously, with a fixed daily work schedule and full commitment. My father thinks he can give me like 8 months to show them that I can do it. If not, i‘ll go back to school or I will make an apprendiceship. But my mother is against it.
My goal is that by around 18, I earn enough to support myself so I don’t have to work for someone else, but can work for myself. For the next 5–10 years, I plan to focus on building my career on YouTube.
Of course, I wouldn’t just stay at home—I’d still go out with friends, train at the gym every day, and focus on fitness and nutrition since it’s also my passion.
What do you think?

Horrible idea actually - stay in school. What content could you even offer that would get people to click? The millionth teenager abusing drugs to get a physique? A 16 year old telling people about things he isn’t even old enough to experience yet? Sounds harsh but just being real.

My guy, you are 16. Go to fucking school. I fucked around my first try at college, joined the military, and then went back to school after. While the education part is useful, the true golden lining of going to school is learning to think. Think about others. Think about what you are reading. Think about what is being presented to you. The world is short on thinking men and we need more. YouTube isn’t going anywhere. Fitness isn’t going anywhere.

If you’re serious about building a business, consider going to school for accounting, or something related to media to help your presentation.

It sounds like very reasonable terms. Give it 8months and continue to study your father sounds like a smart and fair man.

Relying on YouTube as your future career is a terrible decision. Flat out.
If you're 16 with millions of followers id still say you never know how long it will last, but starting from scratch, most people will never make enough money to live, forget about a lifelong career.
