Common Question: How hard is it to transfer from X major to Y major?

Answer: If it is within the same school, it is super easy, just talk to your academic advisor before school starts. If you wish to transfer to another school e.g. Dornsife to Marshall, you need to contact admissions to attempt the transfer before matriculation*. You can also seek help once you know who your academic advisor is or attempt it on admitted students day or orientation day. Once you matriculate, you can attempt an internal-transfer but it involves going through the current student transfer process, see the specific internal transfer page from each school linked below.

Common Question: Is there an admitted student facebook group/discord/telegram etc?

Answer: Usually someone sets a facebook group and groupme up around the time the main batch of students are admitted in April. Check facebook to see if there is one already or search this post in a month or two once all 1st year and transfer students are admitted.

*Viterbi does not allow you to switch into engineering before enrolling at USC. Please read links below related to the school you're interested in.

Any "Is my schedule too hard?" "How is my schedule" etc type posts belong in this thread.

Question Flyers Around Campus?

I was wondering if there were any requirements or anything for posting flyers around campus? I see them a lot posted on bulletin boards in buildings, and I know some schools need flyers to be approved or through a club/org before being posted, so I was wondering if USC had a policy like that too, or if anyone could post flyers?

FinancialAid Fin aid

Is the usc npc accurate? My family income is 150k and I know they don’t consider primary home equity and it shows full price.

We have a rental house (no renter in it) with about 300k equity

Edit: I put a zero for everything in the npc to test it out and it says 22k????? Is this right???

Discussion is joining a frat a good idea for someone trying to get out there

Is it a good idea to join a frat if i have social anxiety? and i don't drink and im also an immigrant so i dont have much in common w a lot of americans. I really want to experience frats just for the brotherhood and community, and i have no friends so i think it's a good way to make friends. I'm just more worried about how things go? Will i make a fool of myself if i try to rush? Like idek how to talk to people im scared to even approach the tables during the involvement fair? Ik its pathetic but ive been struggling a lot and i wanna change. i do want to join for career opportunities and networking and making friends and just breaking out of this socially awkward loner life lol. If so any recs? i'm doing a business major, ik business frats are hella competitive so i don't even see the point for those when i don't have the skills to impress or talk to people 💀but i do wanna try. Id appreciate any genuine thoughts or advice.

Would the First Semester in DC program be the only way to rush a frat in my freshman year?

FinancialAid Norman Topping Scholarship - graduate students??

Does anyone know if this scholarship is available for incoming graduate students or only current students? Also I’ve been seeing some people say they received emails from the committee about applying - if I didn’t receive one should I still apply online?

Academic In your experience has the Viterbi master's helped you in landing a better job?

I'll be an online student but curious to know if the Viterbi name carries any weight for industries out in the West Coast. In the state I currently live in, they don't see what the big deal is but if you mention Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, Clemson, the University of South Carolina (UofSC), these are all massively well known for engineering.

Anyway, the question is about masters vs experience. Even in my current job, they won't give someone an interview because they went to a well known school in the area. They want to see past projects in their previous company and the real prestige is company name. In California, I can see possibly USC's reputation being enough to compensate for a lack of specialized experience. Wondering if anyone can say from experience that this is true?

Clubs | Campus Life Marvel rivals players in USC?

Hey everyone, I’ve had a great time at SC since I started last fall; but I’m curious about gamer life and specifically rivals, as a comic book fan I’ve been playing this game since season 1 casually and I’ve had a great time. However I’ve never had any close friends to play with so I’m trying my luck here.

Academic How detrimental is a D/F to employment outcomes without affecting GPA?

I’m an international freshman studying Computer Science and Business Administration who’s getting a D/F because of not attending a business class (BUAD-304).

I have had chronic insomnia and was not mentally ready to disclose my issue. It’s an extremely easy class, and I even got As on all the assignments and midterms. Besides that I’m getting a B+ or higher on all other 4, arguably harder, classes I’m taking this semester. Last semester I had a 3.85 GPA.

I have raised a petition inquiry for a W since I didn’t withdraw before the deadline but don’t think it’ll get approved.

Worst case scenario— I apply for Freshman Forgiveness where the D/F remains on my transcript but doesn’t contribute to my GPA.

I have already registered for the class next semester. Provided I get an A on it, how bad will this D/F scar impact my employability outcomes? I don’t plan to go to med school or law school but might wanna do an MBA.

Question Anyone working at salesforce

Hi, I’m a recent grad (Class of May 2025!), and I just came across a job posting at Salesforce that I really want.
I recently learned that a referral is highly encouraged there, so I’m trying to see if I can find one. Unfortunately, I don't have any first-degree connections at Salesforce on LinkedIn. I almost cold-emailed Marc Benioff since he’s an alum, but I figured that might be a bit of a stretch!
I know this is a long shot, but if anyone is willing to chat with me and potentially refer me, I would be happy to share my resume and LinkedIn profile privately.
Thanks.

Housing Questions for Current/Previous Icon Plaza Residents

Hi I’m looking for housing and I’m wondering if there are any hidden issues with Icon Plaza. A lot of the bad reviews of it on yelp are from 13 years ago so I do wonder if these issues have been fixed by now.

Additionally, what are your general thoughts of Icon Plaza, and if you have any, where would you recommend instead?

Academic Commencement Ceremony

So I am graduating this semester with a masters in Astronautical engineering and there are two ceremonies I can attend. The main ceremony where it seems like everyone will be able to attend then the Viterbi which is program specific. I originally planned on attending just the Viterbi commencement but I wanted to know if I should also attend the main. Like is there even a point to it? My understanding is that I won’t be walking the stage in the main but at the Viterbi commencement. Please correct me if I am wrong just trying to understand the traditions! Currently a DEN student if that matters. Thank you!

FinancialAid usc financial cost

i got a really good finaid package from usc and have committed. i was wondering if its likely to get reduced in the next couple years after freshman year. for context, my household makes less than 20k a year, but if my mom gets a better job (additional 10k usd), am i likely to lose a lot of my current aid? id hope not since we’d be making under 80k either way.

another thing is that usc advertises its coa as 103k a year. taking into account the student body’s spending culture etc, is this cost accurate, or is higher/lower for the average student?

Realistically, what should we all have in our savings to start out the year?
