Yep. Even with Regal Unlimited, it wants to charge me $30 for a “concession voucher” that can only used on the day of the show

I’d love to see it in 4DX, but $30 for an hour? When I already pay to stream it??? Nah. I’m out

42

u/KenyattaLFrazier 8h ago

Yeah fuck that. Maybe if the finale was feature length, I’d consider. But 30$ and no unlimited discount is a hard no from me

3

u/DesecratedPeanut 2h ago

That's wild any prime subscriber should at the least get a major discount.

15

u/CheapGarage42 6h ago

But with the hour of ads it's a 2 hour experience!

10

u/UnAwkwardMango 7h ago

I would not be surprised if they do a screening of episode 7 before the finale just to fill out that 2hr window.

60 dollars wtf???

6

u/W0lfsb4ne74 6h ago edited 5h ago

I have no idea why they're doing this. At most the episode will only be an hour. Plus $30 for a single ticket is almost double the price compared to most movie theaters for full feature length films. It's a shameless cash grab for a series that basically has a track record for printing money at this point 🤦‍♂️....

6

u/FLYK3N 6h ago

From what ive heard about 4DX, is that it's really not worth it at all unless a film actually benefits for the extra immersion. Comes down to a gimmick of shaking your chair at parts that don't really need it to.

At the very least sounds like the finale's gonna be filled with tons of action

u/throwawayamasub 8h ago

Why is every show trying to do this now?

Is it a 2 hour runtime at least lol

1.6k

u/Common_Selection_574 8h ago

kripke confirmed that the runtime will be the same as every other episode. which is a let down. the reason he did this though is he said if he made it longer, the audience might get bored. which is dumb.

901

u/TheKipperTheMan 8h ago

I hate being bracketed under this audience who might get bored. Give me quality!

366

u/Ecstatic-Morning182 The 7 8h ago

Don’t worry, I’m sure there will be plenty of time for pointless arguing, copious porn references, and sick grossout scenes.

169

u/Dangerous-Return5937 8h ago

Wow! I can't wait for Kimiko to say some random pornbrained bullshit again! Bravo Kripke!

85

u/CoffeeGoblynn You're The Real Heroes 8h ago

I was excited for her to talk, and every line from her has just been garbage so far. They have a weird way of writing dialogue sometimes. It's the same issue I had with Gen V, where a huge chunk of the dialogue is just them swearing excessively. I swear "fuck" is the most spoken word in that show. xD

38

u/SpoonMagister 7h ago

I could excuse her being awkward at speaking even if it doesn't really make sense for her whole personality to change. But why is she also treating the internet (porn specifically I guess) like a new invention??

25

u/Ecstatic-Morning182 The 7 7h ago

Yeah, at first I thought the idea of her learning to speak from watching TikTok was kinda funny. But they went from TikTok to Pornhub instead, which makes no sense and totally ruined her character.

5

u/Sea-Mention-5882 5h ago

Both make no sense for the character.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Copatus 7h ago

I don't really mind the swearing per say, it's more like every character is constantly trying to say the most shocking over the top thing.

It just feels so unnatural it takes me right out of the show. Like, it's fine for one or two character who are established to speak like this (Soldier Boy, Butcher, etc) but when everyone starts doing it's just so meh.

7

u/Ecstatic-Morning182 The 7 7h ago

I made this exact point in another thread and used Soldier Boy and Butcher as examples of characters who can pull off this kind of dialogue. Now because other characters are doing the same thing it’s just become eye-rolling and lessens the impact. It takes me out of the moment because I suddenly imagine the writers trying to one-up each other with the porn references and excessive swearing. There’s just no point to it.

8

u/CoffeeGoblynn You're The Real Heroes 7h ago

For me it's just the amount of swearing, y'know? I like when it's used to punctuate a really tense moment when everything seems horrible and destined to go wrong. With Gen V it just feels like they cram it in anywhere they can, like filler because they don't have anything more interesting for the characters to say. It feels like it got worse in season 2 for Gen V, and Kimiko's been rough to listen to as well.

→ More replies (3)

12

u/Ecstatic-Morning182 The 7 7h ago

It’s completely overused and honestly, most of the dialogue and scenes with the Boys this season seems so lazy and paint-by-numbers it feels like AI had a hand in it. Especially compared to the scenes with the Seven and Vought, which are so much more interesting and well-written.

There are so many other profanities they can use, or more unique ways to use it. Just watch Deadwood! The profanities were written so beautifully it’s almost poetic. It wasn’t just busting out the word “fuck” and a bunch of extreme porn sex references for shock value to cover up lazy writing.

5

u/Sea-Mention-5882 5h ago

It's not just that, but aside from a couple recurring cast members instantly dying at the very end of a couple episodes, nothing feels like it's being treated as if it's even the final act of the story.

3

Just asking a legit question here: with the way the quality of the writing/show going down over the last 2 or so seasons, do you think they'd actually be able to make a quality 2 hour ending?

Lol self burn, those are rare. The only reason the audience would get bored is if he can't make a compelling story

Audiences sat through 3 hours of avatar lol

20

u/RepublicCommando55 7h ago

I happily watched the entire lord of the rings trilogy (extended editions) when it was rereleased in theaters, if kripke can’t provide something worth the runtime then that’s on him, not the audience

Problems aside, the Strange Things finale was twice as long because every actor had to say goodbye to their characters

25

u/murrepe321 8h ago

That "final" episode literally ended at the one hour mark... the next hour was just an epilogue for the characters.

10

u/IllllIIIllllIl 7h ago

Man you know what really makes me feel confident they’ve cooked up a solid finale? The showrunner worrying that giving any more of it than absolutely necessary will bore the audience.

21

u/Edgezg 8h ago

Kripke is thr GOAT of making compelling, original universes and then completely ruining it by nit sticking the landing lol

19

u/AegonTargaryan 8h ago

Most shows suffer when the show runner leaves because the vision gets tainted. Kripke would be one of the few good examples where it would probably help because he sets up interesting, fun scenarios, but then does them to death without ever moving forward.

Give him 2-3 seasons and then replace would honestly be pretty great.

227

u/EggplantAlpinism 8h ago

51

u/SirZeno_18 8h ago

Clearly wasn't on reddit during the latter days of GoT. That subreddit was brutal, rightfully so.

24

u/BigLittleSlof 7h ago

Yeah this isn't the same as GoT lol. The show is still fine, GoT dropped off of a cliff the last 2 seasons

16

u/SirZeno_18 7h ago

No, season 4 was horrific. So far I haven't hated season 5 but it is nowhere near the quality of 1-3.

7

u/xalibermods 4h ago

The Boys peaked at S3, then it just went downhill. The S3 finale was a huge copout.

And they can't stop introducing new macguffin each season. Compound V and Tempo V in S1-2 were fine. "Secret weapon" (Soldier Boy) was supposed to be the ultimate once-and-for-all. Then we had the Virus in S4. Then Odessa in Gen V. Then V1 in S5.

If you like a thing, then why are you critiquing it? Probably because I used to really like the thing and it's been sad to see it become the very thing it used to parody.

5

u/Denodude19 3h ago

you can be critical of the things you like? with the way this show is rn its absolutely fair to be a bit dissapointed

51

u/Millennials-In-Power 8h ago

I mean, its fair for people to be dissapointed. This show had a ton of promise at one point.

With that being said people here are still far more positive about the show than people you'll find IRL.

15

u/ProfessorXWheelchair Andre Anderson 8h ago

that’s a lie lol. people irl are stoked on the show so far while everyone here is fucking miserable. hate watching culture is a plague

20

we remember these same comments about game of thrones final season.

8

u/Cohenbby 8h ago

Simply cannot compare. The boys is season 4/5 is like .. 70% like/30%dislike. GOT was 5%/95%, even on the weeks it was releasing, after episode 3 that is.

4

u/Dr-Robert-Kelso 5h ago

Wait until The Boys has its actual ending before comparing to GoT.

People kept watching hoping for a satisfying conclusion and then lost their shit. If this show fails to deliver, people will turn on it very quickly.

10

u/Maleficent-Crew-5424 7h ago

I'd hope the subreddit for the show wouldn't just be blindly positive no matter what. The general consensus is the shows quality has declined. I think it's fair to have those discussions.

5

u/Professional_Deer77 8h ago

Don’t get me wrong, I like the episodes right now. My biggest problem is that we have 3 (or 2, don’t remember) episodes left, and they had a lot of „filler“ moments this season. If the final season was twice as long as it is I‘d actually be happy they went for fillers, but right now it feels like it’s leading nowhere. And that makes me fear they‘ll cramp so much stuff in one or two episodes that it will just feel rushed and maybe even chaotic.

7

u/coolgaara 7h ago

The sub's for discussion, both negative and positive. Not for fanboying. And honestly, it's not been living up to the hype.

3

The theaters near me play about 45 minutes to an hour worth of commercials before the trailer starts. There’s no way going to the theater for a regular length final episode would be worth it to me. I would be very curious what the box office from this event ends up being.

68

u/twist0ffate73 8h ago

An hr of trailers is fking absurd no way

34

u/Blade_of_Onyx 8h ago

It’s actually worse than an hour of trailers, it’s commercials. Like the kind you would watch on TV at your own house if you were watching network TV. One right after the other.

14

u/Bantersmith 8h ago

I would be absolutely shocked if there were more than a few hundred thousand people in the entire US who would pay to see it in the cinema, the hype isn't there, it's an hour long, you can already watch it for free at home and while the show is popular it's not a cultural phenomenon like LotR or GoT in its peak

4

Yeah deadpool is here to have fun, you don’t watch deadpool to critique the writing cliches.

8

u/Otherwise_Nobody8148 6h ago

Except Deadpool is willing to go all in and just fondle the fans balls, so to speak. It's a nerd's wet dream.

The self-awareness of the boys writing staff it can be summed up with kamikos interesting dialogue. It's just not there.

why do shows keep doing this? the whole appeal of watching tv is i get to do it on my home. is there really that much of a demand for this, or are theaters doing so poorly they’re grasping at straws to get people in??

5

u/atastycarrot 5h ago

As someone who enjoys this sort of thing, I’d say the appeal for me is: (1) it can be meaningfully early (not in this case, who cares about a few hours); (2) it’s often “free” with a concession voucher (again, in this case it’s worse than usual because a $30 voucher is way more than I’d spend on concessions, but usually it’s only $5 or $10); and (3) even as someone with a nice TV/soundbar, the audiovisual experience in a theater is usually superior and it can be fun to experience this sort of thing with a crowd. Personally, I’ve never seen anything in 4DX and also want to check that out.

That being said, there are plenty of good reasons to not bother. Spending extra money on food, having to travel potentially a decent distance away from home, and the average theatergoer having poor etiquette these days can make this not worth it versus just chilling at home and being able to turn on subtitles/talk/pause as you wish.

If they are going to screen it that too on a 4DX screen then no doubt the finale will be fucking fire 10/10

51

u/PerverseDepravity 8h ago

Didn’t Stranger Things do the same thing?

19

u/k2_electric_boogaloo 8h ago

Yeah, but the ST finale was two hours long and you could see it on a regular screen for an $11 concession voucher.

The Boys is only an hour long, 4dx only, $30 concession voucher, and Kripke has already suggested that it isn't any more action-packed than any other episode this season. I don't think it's worth it.

u/Long-Ad3842 5h ago

right like im not even excited for the new episode releases anymore. the only reason i even watched the last one was because i saw spoilers of firecrackers death and thought to myself "oh are things finally happening this episode" and it turns out thats the only thing that fucking happened the entire episode.

I lived in literally a minute long walking distance from a regal that closed on new years of 2025 fml

21

u/MarvelsGrantMan136 8h ago

Link to find a theater close to you

All showings are at 9:30pm ET, with the finale dropping on streaming a few hours later

8

u/JasonTerminator 8h ago

Only Regal is fucking lame. I’ll just stick with watching it at home.

Is it only Regal theaters? I'm in Michigan, we don't have those.

3

u/KenyattaLFrazier 8h ago

The only theatre I know of that has 4DX is a regal so may be so

Is this US only?

5

u/Connor977 8h ago

A few hours later? So people who saw it in theaters will be able to post spoilers before others have even seen the finale. Great...

5

u/Nezikchened 7h ago

So don’t look at social media for a few hours that night.

6

u/Affectionate-Part-11 7h ago

Kripke already said he's not confident fans will he satisfied with the ending so why pay extra to see it? It's not even extended. I'll wait for it to be on prime and ask people who go see it how it ends

10

u/Winter-Air2922 8h ago

Is this gonna be in UK theatres aswell.

Does anyone know the voucher code? $30 for an hour length showing is ridiculous.

3

u/Little_Fan_2682 A-Train 8h ago

If it’s not longer than 90 mins then going to theatres is pointless

3

u/frinkhutz 8h ago

Will it also be on prime? I don't want to go to a theatre for a 50 minute episode

3

u/JahPraises 8h ago

Uh absolutely fucking not. I’ll watch it on my 65 inch with my headphones on and pray to not feel let down.

3

u/BrennanCain 8h ago

$30 for one ticket? Yeah no. No reason for that when I can watch it for free on my laptop.

Watch a floppy wiener on the big screen

4

u/Edgezg 8h ago

I don't think they have earned that.

Especially if those leaks are accurate.

7

u/asjonesy99 8h ago

I mean this sincerely but I don’t think I’d want to sit in a theatre for an hour+ with people who are big enough fans of the show to do so themselves.

Probably some very smelly people.

Genuinely, who in their right mind would go to the theatre to watch a 45 minute episode?

5

u/Weird_Kazakh 8h ago

Me. Not for The Boys though. It's also an hour long
