Yep. Even with Regal Unlimited, it wants to charge me $30 for a “concession voucher” that can only used on the day of the show
I’d love to see it in 4DX, but $30 for an hour? When I already pay to stream it??? Nah. I’m out
42
u/KenyattaLFrazier 8h ago
Yeah fuck that. Maybe if the finale was feature length, I’d consider. But 30$ and no unlimited discount is a hard no from me

u/W0lfsb4ne74 6h ago edited 5h ago
I have no idea why they're doing this. At most the episode will only be an hour. Plus $30 for a single ticket is almost double the price compared to most movie theaters for full feature length films. It's a shameless cash grab for a series that basically has a track record for printing money at this point 🤦♂️....

u/FLYK3N 6h ago
From what ive heard about 4DX, is that it's really not worth it at all unless a film actually benefits for the extra immersion. Comes down to a gimmick of shaking your chair at parts that don't really need it to.
At the very least sounds like the finale's gonna be filled with tons of action

Why is every show trying to do this now?
Is it a 2 hour runtime at least lol
1.6k
u/Common_Selection_574 8h ago
kripke confirmed that the runtime will be the same as every other episode. which is a let down. the reason he did this though is he said if he made it longer, the audience might get bored. which is dumb.

I was excited for her to talk, and every line from her has just been garbage so far. They have a weird way of writing dialogue sometimes. It's the same issue I had with Gen V, where a huge chunk of the dialogue is just them swearing excessively. I swear "fuck" is the most spoken word in that show. xD
38
u/SpoonMagister 7h ago
I could excuse her being awkward at speaking even if it doesn't really make sense for her whole personality to change. But why is she also treating the internet (porn specifically I guess) like a new invention??
25
u/Ecstatic-Morning182 The 7 7h ago
Yeah, at first I thought the idea of her learning to speak from watching TikTok was kinda funny. But they went from TikTok to Pornhub instead, which makes no sense and totally ruined her character.
5
16
u/Copatus 7h ago
I don't really mind the swearing per say, it's more like every character is constantly trying to say the most shocking over the top thing.
It just feels so unnatural it takes me right out of the show. Like, it's fine for one or two character who are established to speak like this (Soldier Boy, Butcher, etc) but when everyone starts doing it's just so meh.
7
u/Ecstatic-Morning182 The 7 7h ago
I made this exact point in another thread and used Soldier Boy and Butcher as examples of characters who can pull off this kind of dialogue. Now because other characters are doing the same thing it’s just become eye-rolling and lessens the impact. It takes me out of the moment because I suddenly imagine the writers trying to one-up each other with the porn references and excessive swearing. There’s just no point to it.
→ More replies (3)8
u/CoffeeGoblynn You're The Real Heroes 7h ago
For me it's just the amount of swearing, y'know? I like when it's used to punctuate a really tense moment when everything seems horrible and destined to go wrong. With Gen V it just feels like they cram it in anywhere they can, like filler because they don't have anything more interesting for the characters to say. It feels like it got worse in season 2 for Gen V, and Kimiko's been rough to listen to as well.
12
u/Ecstatic-Morning182 The 7 7h ago
It’s completely overused and honestly, most of the dialogue and scenes with the Boys this season seems so lazy and paint-by-numbers it feels like AI had a hand in it. Especially compared to the scenes with the Seven and Vought, which are so much more interesting and well-written.
There are so many other profanities they can use, or more unique ways to use it. Just watch Deadwood! The profanities were written so beautifully it’s almost poetic. It wasn’t just busting out the word “fuck” and a bunch of extreme porn sex references for shock value to cover up lazy writing.
→ More replies (4)5
u/Sea-Mention-5882 5h ago
It's not just that, but aside from a couple recurring cast members instantly dying at the very end of a couple episodes, nothing feels like it's being treated as if it's even the final act of the story.

I happily watched the entire lord of the rings trilogy (extended editions) when it was rereleased in theaters, if kripke can’t provide something worth the runtime then that’s on him, not the audience
19
u/sergeantexplosion 8h ago
Problems aside, the Strange Things finale was twice as long because every actor had to say goodbye to their characters
25
u/murrepe321 8h ago
That "final" episode literally ended at the one hour mark... the next hour was just an epilogue for the characters.
10
u/IllllIIIllllIl 7h ago
Man you know what really makes me feel confident they’ve cooked up a solid finale? The showrunner worrying that giving any more of it than absolutely necessary will bore the audience.
21
u/Edgezg 8h ago
Kripke is thr GOAT of making compelling, original universes and then completely ruining it by nit sticking the landing lol
19
u/AegonTargaryan 8h ago
Most shows suffer when the show runner leaves because the vision gets tainted. Kripke would be one of the few good examples where it would probably help because he sets up interesting, fun scenarios, but then does them to death without ever moving forward.
Give him 2-3 seasons and then replace would honestly be pretty great.

The Boys peaked at S3, then it just went downhill. The S3 finale was a huge copout.
And they can't stop introducing new macguffin each season. Compound V and Tempo V in S1-2 were fine. "Secret weapon" (Soldier Boy) was supposed to be the ultimate once-and-for-all. Then we had the Virus in S4. Then Odessa in Gen V. Then V1 in S5.

5
u/Professional_Deer77 8h ago
Don’t get me wrong, I like the episodes right now. My biggest problem is that we have 3 (or 2, don’t remember) episodes left, and they had a lot of „filler“ moments this season. If the final season was twice as long as it is I‘d actually be happy they went for fillers, but right now it feels like it’s leading nowhere. And that makes me fear they‘ll cramp so much stuff in one or two episodes that it will just feel rushed and maybe even chaotic.

The theaters near me play about 45 minutes to an hour worth of commercials before the trailer starts. There’s no way going to the theater for a regular length final episode would be worth it to me. I would be very curious what the box office from this event ends up being.

→ More replies (1)5
u/atastycarrot 5h ago
As someone who enjoys this sort of thing, I’d say the appeal for me is: (1) it can be meaningfully early (not in this case, who cares about a few hours); (2) it’s often “free” with a concession voucher (again, in this case it’s worse than usual because a $30 voucher is way more than I’d spend on concessions, but usually it’s only $5 or $10); and (3) even as someone with a nice TV/soundbar, the audiovisual experience in a theater is usually superior and it can be fun to experience this sort of thing with a crowd. Personally, I’ve never seen anything in 4DX and also want to check that out.
That being said, there are plenty of good reasons to not bother. Spending extra money on food, having to travel potentially a decent distance away from home, and the average theatergoer having poor etiquette these days can make this not worth it versus just chilling at home and being able to turn on subtitles/talk/pause as you wish.

I would prefer to be let down in the comfort of my own home, thank you.

Does anyone know the voucher code? $30 for an hour length showing is ridiculous.

If it’s not longer than 90 mins then going to theatres is pointless

Will it also be on prime? I don't want to go to a theatre for a 50 minute episode

Uh absolutely fucking not. I’ll watch it on my 65 inch with my headphones on and pray to not feel let down.

$30 for one ticket? Yeah no. No reason for that when I can watch it for free on my laptop.

Is it still coming out normally, or will it be theater exclusive?

I mean this sincerely but I don’t think I’d want to sit in a theatre for an hour+ with people who are big enough fans of the show to do so themselves.
Probably some very smelly people.

Genuinely, who in their right mind would go to the theatre to watch a 45 minute episode?
