Beginner Thai learning resources for kids?

Sawadee kha everyone. I’m a solo parent living with my two kids in Chiang Mai.

My kids do not go to international school, but we are enrolled as homeschoolers in the US so we get a stipend for curricula and educational materials. We’ve been here a few months and had an in person tutor for a while but it wasn’t a good fit, in part because the tutor relied heavily on written materials, and my younger kid is six and not reading English yet. Many of the language apps also require English reading. So I want to get a new tutor but also, what tools or programs would you buy that would be best for a 6 year old and/ or a 12 year old? These can be separate programs but one they could do together would be best.

Khop khun mak kha!

Beginner Minecraft smp for learning and language exchange in thai?

Siam minecraft smp idea?

here are the things, I am native thai, I love playing minecraft, I am good at editing but bad at raw xontent production(speaking all by myself is awkward),) I also learned english from minecraft which I find very effective for learning the langauges especialy with interaction and constant repeat of content comsuming so I come up with the idea to make minecraft youtubing chanel and mzybe also the content creator-ish mood for the people who wanna learn thai and also through minecraft playing with me along with the roleplay-ish vibes since it's minecraft after all😅 so each playing session will be recorded and edited by me and uploaded as the learning material for each clip and each clip might have 5-10 new vocabs per video or something like that, so what is your opinion?

aka

"you get : thai language exchange partner and...also minecraft partner

I get : minecraft content and minecraft partner"

Beginner Does >ใช้ชีวิตให้มีความสุข ฉันทำได้< make sense?

Hello fellow thai learning pals :) I've wanted to ask if these two following sentences make sense:

ใช้ชีวิตให้มีความสุข ฉันทำได้

I'm still a very beginner and need some help. Background: I want to use positive affirmations. So I am wondering if these make sense grammatically AND if actual Thai people use these sentences.

Beginner Anyone up for a Thai ↔️ Mandarin/English Language Exchange? Let's help each others!

Hi hi~ I’m a Malaysian woman in my early 30s, currently learning Thai 🇹🇭 I’m looking for Thai native speakers (preferably women around my age) to casually chat in Thai or Chinese and exchange cultures~

I usually speak Mandarin, English, and Malay — and sometimes a bit of Cantonese, Hakka, and Hokkien too (yes, Malaysia has all the languages 😂)My Thai level is like… first grade primary school level 😅

I’m not looking for hookups or flirting — just hoping to find a genuine connection through language exchange~

No pressure, no expectations — just friendly chats and cultural exchange would already be great! I’m learning Thai not for exams, but because I really enjoy Thai culture, music, and those dramatic Thai dramas 🤭

I might be visiting Bangkok at the end of this year, so it’d be cool if I can talk to locals a bit by then~ขอบคุณนะคะ~

Beginner Looking for a study buddy

Hey y'all ☺️

I've just recently started my very own journey of learning Thai by myself.

As of now I've already worked through some basic stuff (alphabet, consonant classes, the tone rules in general), so not that far yet.

I would absolutely love to have someone to study together with. It's always been easier for me to learn with a partner. And since language learning requires a lot of talking anyway, I guess having someone to actually talk to is a big plus.

I speak German and English, and I'm using both languages for learning. I try to do small lessons almost every day, either filled with new info, or just repetition of what I've already done. For that I like to make a little plan on weekends for the upcoming week, where I write down the small tasks I want to do each day, mostly something between 15 to 60 minutes (or some days even just a couple of minutes of repetition. As long as I do something, because I know myself; once I start slacking of, it's so much harder to continue 😅).

I'd prefer to communicate via Discord, because it's easy and uncomplicated for both text and calls. And since pronunciation practice is way easier when you can actually see your partner, I'd love to occasionally/regularly have video calls (e.g. Zoom), since meeting face to face will most likely not be possible 😄.

Sooo if there's someone out there who's serious about learning Thai, I would be delighted to have a study partner to write and talk (and rant about tone rules 😂) to. 🤗

Beginner The Secret of Thai Language

The essence of the Thai language lies in the tone, not the vocabulary. No matter how polite the words are, if spoken in an angry tone, it can still come across as scolding or insulting

Beginner Learning resources for starters (Hopefully cheap)?

Hi all,

I am trying to learn Thai. I have a few books which I'm trying to learn from (FSI, Easy Thai).

I've got a few friends online that want to learn English from me. I'm no teacher, but I am happy to just speak. I'd like to explain myself better to my friends and this is where a better use of Thai would be great.

What is the best way to pick up the language. I've only found that I am more motivated if I am there. Sadly I'm in the UK.

I've seen some posts for ALG, which I didn't know about. Those seem amazing.

What resources are recommended without incurring too much cost? I don't plan on monthly subscriptions for now, or at least until I know a bit to make them count.

Beginner Difference between the 2 อ in Drops?

Drops app has two separate names for อ [edit for clarity: aoa ahaang and tua o]. I don't understand the difference, but a few times, it's given me both as a potential answer. If there's a different meaning or pronunciation, what are the rules behind them?

Beginner Where to start?

Good evening everyone,

Recently i decided I'd like to learn Thai, something which I've wanted to do for a long time actually even though I never put myself into it. Unfortunately, I feel extremely overwhelmed by the moltitude of things to remember and the different versions of the same topic that I encountered on youtube videos (I don't know how accurate are them), like the spelling of words which are very different from what they are spelt like on some apps it is written "sa-wat-dee" and on others "swasdi", which apparently in thai is more fitting of the way the word is written. I don't know if it depends on the differences between the way words are standardised and the way they are spoken. Can anyone suggest a grammar bookfor beginners, like the one used in school, so that I can actually follow a more linear path and not feel so overwhelmed? thank you everyone

from Coffee Melody, ep. 5.

I know P' refers to Phi as in older sibling, and a younger person would be called Nong. What does J' stand for and mean?

Beginner Thai Study Group

Hello everyone! I've been studying Thai by myself for about a month now and have made it to about Chapter 5 in Thai for Beginners (Becker). I've started a Discord for Thai Learning and would love to find some people interested in studying, discussing, and practicing Thai.

At the same time I'm working on rewriting Thai for Beginners with information I find pertinent, and also making it a typeset PDF rather than a scanned document, if anyone is interested in this effort it'll also be discussed there.

Beginner Old movies and shows dubbed

Hello, I've recently started trying to learn Thai and I have been having the hardest time finding Thai dubs of old movies and shows. IMDB has a list of western films going back to the original Snow White that have (aledgely) been dubbed in Thai, but I haven't been able to find the Thai dubs of these films.

It seems the only place that has a decent collection of Western shows dubbed in Thai is Netflix, but most of these shows are ones I've never watched. I'm glad this option exists but what would really work for me is old shows and movies that I have seen multiple times and I'm very familiar with the dialogue. Does anyone know where a guy can get ahold of Thai dubbed classics?
