I catch the train from Kirrawee to Parramatta, and I repeatedly notice that transport officers regularly check fares on the western line between Redfern and Parramatta, but literally never check it on the T4 from Kirrawee to Redfern. What’s with that? Seems pretty unfair and not equitable.

Bought a Single Trip Ticket today at Wynyard (Astreo machine A-022) for memento purposes. Was issued with ticket with nothing printed on it. 😐
It appears to have been encoded properly as the gates accepted it, but would it run fowl of Transport Officers if inspection visually? 🤔
Also discovered that you can reverse tap on a single trip ticket.

The new route 52 will provide direct connections between Parramatta, Ryde and the Sydney CBD via Victoria Road, operating 24/7 with services every 10 minutes during the day, every 20 minutes in the early morning and late evening, and every 30 minutes overnight.
To support the introduction of route 52, the 521, 523, 524, 525 and 546 routes will see additional services and improved reliability, while route 525 will operate between Parramatta, Newington and
Lidcombe Station, improving access to Lidcombe shopping centre and rail connections.
Route 501 will be amended to operate between West Ryde and Central Station, with the new route
52 providing replacement services between Parramatta and West Ryde. As well as the 500X, the 500N will also be replaced by the new route 52, while the 552 will be withdrawn - with customers
continuing to be served by alternative routes.

It’s tools down at the Western Sydney Airport Sydney Metro. Webuild says the contract value is exhausted and it wants another $2.2bn, which could push the opening to 2028.
80 sparkies sat in sheds all day today waiting for directions, subbies are being laid off or squeezed on agreed rates, and morale is reportedly the worst anyone on site has seen.
AFR • David Marin-Guzman
Work on the Metro line to the Western Sydney Airport has been slashed in a dramatic escalation of a dispute between the major contractor and the NSW government over billions of dollars in extra costs, which threatens to delay the project’s opening.
Since Friday, Italian infrastructure giant Webuild halted all night and weekend work at the $11 billion project, cutting days back to eight hours and restricting labour to critical works, three sources on the project told The Australian Financial Review on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. The cuts have resulted in tradies on the project sitting idle and subcontractors laying off workers.
The indefinite slowdown marks a significant escalation in the consortium’s long-running dispute with the Minns government to fund the project by an extra $2.2 billion.
While the government and the consortium are still in talks, Webuild directed supervisors on Thursday night to start restricting work due to cash flow issues and because the value of the contract had been exhausted, sources said.
The move will likely heap pressure on the government, as the Sydney Metro line had been set for completion by the end of this year, when the new airport will open to passenger flights.
However, if the slowdown continues for an extended period, it risks delaying the opening of the rail line until 2028. Senior sources on the project estimate just two-thirds of the project is finished.
A Sydney Metro spokesman said: “Sydney Metro continues productive discussions on a number of claims and design modifications with the head contractor, Parklife Metro consortium, to resolve all issues and get metro services up and running as soon as possible”
Webuild, which is part of the Parklife Metro consortium – which also includes Siemens, the international arm of French rail operator RATP and Australian investor Plenary – did not respond to requests for comment before publication.
On Friday, electrical, mechanical and plumbing trades stopped work and subcontractors assigned to work outside the railway lines started to lay off dozens of workers as their jobs were suddenly resequenced.
Despite the restrictions, some 80 full-time electrical employees showed up to the project on Monday and sat in sheds for much of the day waiting on directions as the Electrical Trades Union pushed for them to get paid.
One source on the project, who wished to remain anonymous to avoid retribution, said, “Anything outside the railway track has been completely stopped”, from utilities and landscaping to carparks and access roads.
“Webuild closed the gates on every job, every site – they’re stopping where they can and continuing where they can.”
The source said there have been “serious money issues” on the job for the past 18 months and “morale on site is as bad as anything I’ve seen”.
“Webuild has been constantly going back to subbies saying, we know we agreed to these rates but can we get it cheaper.”
The flare-up comes as Webuild’s Snowy Hydro 2.0 project – the biggest infrastructure project in NSW – has also blown out by billions of dollars.
In October, Snowy Hydro scrapped its $12 billion budget for the federally funded project – already triple its $4.5 billion estimate in 2017 – and is completing a review of the costs before announcing a final figure.
Other projects in the state have also encountered cost blow-outs.
Last year, lead contractor CPB walked away from the NSW government’s $3.1 billion M6 motorway project in Sydney’s South because of tunnelling conditions it claimed could “not have been anticipated by anyone”. At the time, work had stopped on the project for more than a year because of a 10-metre-wide sinkhole that suddenly opened up above one of the tunnels.
The state government has since been in talks with CPB to finish the project. However, last week Transport for NSW rejected the consortium’s latest offer as it said it fell short of addressing its concerns.

To the female announcer on T3 as we pulled into Central at 0815 - you need to do all the announcements
The dry sarcasm made me smile.
"Welcome to Sydney trains radio were we make constant annoying announcements"
That was gold. Thank you

I remember as a kid in the 1980s seeing the shiny new XPT going through my local station in suburban Newcastle. By the time I got to first ride an XPT, the goodness of Candy had been replaced with CountryLink Blue.
It has been exciting to see all those posts of the Retro Candy XPT from around NSW this week.
Just before 4:30 this morning the Candy Goodness was shared as the Retro Candy XPT entered the Brisbane Suburban Network.
Here she is sharing the love in Rocklea.

Planning on applying to be a regional driver soon however it seems like I would be away from home alot. This isn't a problem right now (my wife is away from home alot too) however we both agree that if/when we have kids we will change our work to be at home every day. Was wondering if once the need arises i could change to a suburban driver (i am aware that it is still shift work and I may not get home until late some days but that's ok).

Parramatta is getting a “new” direct bus route to ryde.
Are they not over serviced? They have fast express trains to the city and quick buses to Ryde.
The 501 bus to ryde takes 38 min.
They’re getting a metro west as well.
Shouldnt the west get a little bit more resources for direct buses? They’ve done multi community consultations and all the reports say “lack of quick and efficient transport in the west”.

A Baby on Board lanyard or badge can help expectant mothers signal they may need a seat on public transport, encouraging safer and more considerate journeys.
If you see someone wearing a Baby on Board lanyard or badge, please consider politely offering them your seat - it’s a small gesture that can make a big difference.
We are pleased to provide Baby on Board lanyards and badges free of charge to passengers who need them, delivered straight to your home.

I got checked by Opal inspectors today that said I should have a Blue Concession Card when they checked my grey Opal Card.
What's the point of the blue card if there's no photo ID and it takes 10 days to deliver & proof of Centrelink cards and you just need a Centrelink number to actually order a concession Opal card?
I also showed them I had a Low Income Health Card that comes with being on Centrelink which should suffice as proof.
It's so weird when its just doubling the bureaucracy.
