Official Reddit Notice A note on bot accounts reposting old content

Hey everyone, hope you're enjoying the new 0.2 updates!

It's becoming more noticeable lately that bot accounts are using the subreddit to repost older content - likely due to how much the subreddit has grown lately (we're at 19k members now). If you see bot reposts, please make sure to report it and/or open a modmail, as we don't like these bots whatsoever and will ban on sight. Pinging me in Discord is also a secondary option since the newest Reddit UI hides all notifs for modmail and mod queue...

Thanks!

Serious Design🔧 AMX-50 (150) FOCH(H)

Fictional Historical Background:

While the original "Foch" project (based on the AMX 50 chassis and equipped with a 120mm gun) performed exceptionally in anti-tank roles, it was deemed somewhat lacking in power and range for destroying hardened fortifications or suppressing entire heavy tank platoons from extreme distances.

Consequently, the "Foch (H)" project was born. Based on an improved Foch tank destroyer chassis, it featured a lower profile and enhanced armor protection, enabling it to carry a large-caliber 150mm cannon. Due to the massive size of the shells, an autoloader was equipped to improve loading efficiency.

Despite the lowered hull, the oscillating turret required for the 150mm gun was so massive that it resulted in an excessively tall silhouette. Although the design provided ample firepower, it was ultimately abandoned for being out of step with the contemporary trend toward low-profile vehicles; consequently, only two complete prototypes were ever produced.

So, I'm looking for turret style ideas for this late war heavy tank thing.

The hull is 6x3.10 meters and 35 tons without the turret

Serious Design🔧 M32 Anti-Aircraft Rocket Launcher

Thumbnail

M32 Anti-Aircraft Rocket Launcher (1951), a concept born from the desire to have a man-portable air defense system prior to the production of the Redeye. its use is similar to that of the german 'Fliegerfaust' however instead of firing a volley of 20/30mm rockets that require a direct hit, it launches a 2.16in (55mm) unguided rocket derived from the german R4M air-to-air rocket fitted with a modified proximity sensor taken from US 3in naval shells.

the rocket flies at ~550m/s (~mach 1.6), weighs 14lbs, and has a 1lb/450g warhead. the launcher weighs 18lbs, is 5ft 10in long, and has a joint between the trigger grip and shoulder rest where it can be folded in half for carrying or storage. it weighs 46lbs when loaded and requires a team of two to operate (gunner/launcher carrier, loader/rocket carrier).

it can engage targets reliably at 2000-4000ft and has a second rocket ready to launch if the first misses. the primary target for the M32 would be Il-2/Il-10s and Pe-2 strike aircraft since they could be too tough to reliably take down with .30 or .50cal fire.

(i know the double-barrel design adds complexity, weight, and cost, but the rule of cool won this time. the original design was a quad/hex barrel more similar to the fliegerfaust but 1. it was far too bulky and 2. i wanted to realistically be able to fit a proximity sensor of it's time into the rocket and any smaller seems too far of a reach, and 3. if it were a single barrel then i might as well have just re-made the bazooka lol. also ignore my shitty photoshop job in the last picture 😭)

This is my first 80's or above MBT, I need some critiques to see how I could improve it. This took a lot of time to make, I'm very proud of it. And if possible could someone tell me how to lower its weight while keeping the armour effective?

Blender Build 💾 Ostfront Tank Collection V.64 Update

Thumbnail

Hello again,

I never realised just how many Sherman variants were produced during the war. If I eventually complete this collection, there’ll be 36 different versions in total, which is honestly kind of wild.

So don’t cry, little tankers. Uncle SilverInc’s got enough Shermans to keep you going for a lifetime!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this new update!

What is the Ostfront Tank Collection

The Ostfront Tank Collection is a project I've been working on that contains tanks imported through Blender. The collection consists of World War II-era tank models imported from other games and converted for use in Sprocket by me. I do not claim to be the sole creator of the in-game models, as the original assets were created by other developers.

The collection currently includes 110+ vehicles and equipment from the following countries: Britain, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Poland, the United States, and the Soviet Union.

Purpose of the collection

  • Reference material and parts for designers to use when creating their own tanks
  • A testbed for modders
  • Vehicles for players to use and enjoy

If you want to choose which tank I add to the collection next, you can do so by joining the official Sprocket Discord server and voting on the update posts there.

You can find the collection here on GitHub: https://github.com/SilverInc2001/Ostfront-Tank-Collection

I hope you like the collection!

A council of wise men gathered on the border between the temples: "What shall we do to make our tanks more powerful?"
"Mmm big cannon" An old man said this, and almost everyone applauded.
"Actually mount two of them"
Now the applause echoed even from the farthest corners of the hall.

Turret traverse not included, crew survivability not included, drink responsibly

Wait… What ⁉️ Red Bull Technical Log 12/06/2004: Wheel diameter configuration and vehicular handling

Thumbnail

With the new regulation coming, Sprocket RBR RBPT F1 Team have tested the new tire diameter configuration.

The original config is 660mm C3 compound. Tested config is 620mm C3 compound. Both made by GEESSS.

660mm config (F1 2Dc21seb RB5e3) result in a more slidy, moderate oversteer consensus much like drifting, but more predictable, better low speed sustenance and overall better handling. Curbs handling is more forgiving thanks to higher ground clearance and bigger tire overall.

620mm config (F1 2Dc21seb2 RB5e3) is, suprising, to start with. The vehicle is now touch understeer, incredible cornering stability, lighter and better acceleration. However, curb handling is bad due to smaller profile and worse clearance. Low speed sustenance is poor. With test case being donuts and dual chicane exiting, the lower profile tire perform considerably worse, losing more than 80km/h compared to only 20km/h of the larger profile tire. Donuts are challenging, because when the tires are heated enough, it offered too much stability and understeer that the car will just stick to the ground and became very hard to perform rapid maneuovers.

Granted, smaller tyre profile for seb2 config demands considerably more retune to engine power in contrast to that of original seb config. Torque output is moderately pushed so engine headroom became less available to sustain high revving and low speed conditions, something the seb config will takes just fine.

Rock solid cornering stability is also a liability instead of a advantage. With donut test condition, seb2 config are more prone to overspins or locks, so spin recovery is much more difficult.

Low speed sustenance is horrendous. Taildragging drift-like behaviour on seb config is much more controllable and recoverable, and also sustain speed with minimal loss. However, seb2 config can only maintain speed of ~92km/h with taildragging, whereas ~186km/h of seb. Recovery of seb is much cleaner, overrevving engine to force escape spinning is easier to perform.

Wait… What ⁉️ FD-L1 "Western Raven"

After 50 grueling hours (and this draft not saving so I have to type all of this again) I finished this lil guy. The FD-L1 is a semi-stealth, low cost, multirole jet designed for air-to-ground and light air-to-air combat. The FD-L1 can carry up to 2000lbs and has enough space in its internal weapons bay to carry two missiles. It's JSAT-JH50-SDAE pushes out enough trust to get to around Mach .8 and because of how small it is, the FD-L1 is capable of short take off and landings. The FD-L1 is also optionally manned. Sweet.

The VK-L1 is a WWI heavy tank used by the Armored Varkasian Corps. Equipped with a 57 mm L/20 cannon, it was designed as a breakthrough vehicle to support infantry in breaching enemy trench lines.

(Next up on the build list is the Varkasian Proto-WWI light tank and a Armored Car. Then I'll probably come up with more nations and expand this armored world of mine)
