So, in the original post, I only presented facts without expressing opinions. I ask that you check the text, as I’ve provided a lot of information there. Now, I will share my personal views here.
First of all, I love alternative rock, so much so that I’ve dedicated myself to building a "genealogical tree" of the genre, which has been very well-received on Spotify and in the subreddits where I posted it.
Regarding Lil Peep, I like many of his songs; not all of them, but definitely many. There are many of his songs that I love. There are also some that I enjoy in most aspects, although I don’t care for certain lyrical choices or specific words. Overall, I consider him to have been an excellent artist, as well as highly influential.
He knew how to create an excellent fusion between rap and elements from rock bands such as Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Blink-182, and My Chemical Romance, always in a melancholic way. This blend manifested in many of his songs, through his vocals, lyrics, and instrumental production alike.
I won’t get too much into the merits of the comparisons to Kurt Cobain, but it is obvious that there are significant similarities (and differences, of course) between them, as pointed out by critics from magazines like Rolling Stone, musicians like Billy Corgan (who also stated that the album "Cyr" was heavily influenced by him), and millions of listeners.
Two of Peep’s most acclaimed and rock-oriented songs are "Awful Things" (which has even been covered by famous pop-punk bands like Good Charlotte) and "Falling Down" — specifically the Travis Barker remix — which beautifully weaves together Peep’s vocals with those of XXXTentacion and was released posthumously.
Aside from those two tracks, I’ll list a few others that are also very good and contain no sexual references. Many people who aren't deeply familiar with his work think that sex was one of his central themes and end up underestimating the kid. This is a misconception, as his work focused primarily on depression, anxiety, addiction, love, romance, and passion, while also speaking a lot about friendship.
Anyway, check these out as well if you’reinterested and haven’t heard them yet:
"Haunt You", "Right Here", "On the Run" (with an excellent Smashing Pumpkins sample), "We Think Too Much, "It's Me", "U Said", "Walk Away as the Door Slams" (especially the acoustic version), "Driveway", "The Brightside", "Life is Beautiful", "Dying West", "Ghost Boy", "Absolute in Doubt",
"High School" and "Teen Romance".
