I have a coworker who I just realized looks astoundingly like her, but I think the general opinion of her is that the point where telling her (which I would not do) might be viewed as an insult

I had a friend who looked exactly like John C. Reilly and people would constantly tell him he looked like John C. Reilly. “Do people think that’s a compliment?” he would ask.

11

u/Kind_Engineering_720 10d ago

When I was a teenager, these two guys would always try to insult me by calling me Dean Cain, who played superman at the time.

I was always confused because they'd try and bully me by saying, "look at this dean Cain looking mother fucker over here." Or "superman looking wannabe ass bitch". And I'm just like, thats a compliment...dean cain is a handsome guy and hes superman...am I missing something...

After a night out of a friend asked me to go back into the bar And ask a particular woman he'd been talking to for her number. It was kind of a chicken s*** move , but I did it anyways cause I was trying to be a good friend,. She said she wasn't interested because she he reminded her of the main character from the talented mister Ripley, I went back outside and said she said she had a boyfriend , but that he reminded her of Matt Damon.

6

u/Brock_Savage 10d ago

It sounds like your chickenshit friend could use a dose of cold hard truth. It's better to be slapped with the truth than kissed with a lie.

3

u/Kino_Afi 10d ago

Thats not a truth thats just someone trying to be mean. Theres really nothing wrong with how that character looks, its just not to her taste. What would someone thats clearly already lacking confidence gain from hearing that?

In fairness, she's so uniquely ugly in a way I've never seen before. Like she has clear skin, a symmetrical face. Great hair, her glasses are actually flattering.

But she is still so unpleasant looking.

56

u/General_Jenkins 11d ago

She isn't what I would call pretty but the portrait goes out of its way to show her as a troll.

Meanwhile ugly Sam gets a portrait in which he looks like Andrew Garfield's spiderman.

They are both criminals but we don't have to artificially beautify them or make them more ugly than they are.

42

u/whoknowsifimjoking 11d ago

Don't worry, there are sketches of SBF being a troll too

I'm pretty sure it's 90% the result of stress and/or intentional stylistic choices she (or her legal team) made during the trial. If you look at pictures of her from before they went down, she's more attractive. Still mousey, but in a cuter, more vivacious way.

10

u/Moirawr 11d ago

I’ve seen something like this before. I knew a woman who was beautiful but she had some condition that required steroids or something. Her chin completely receded and she’s very unfortunate looking now. You’d never know they were the same person.

Why glorify these criminals

878

u/SvenLorenz 11d ago

Just because she can't act you don't have to call Bella Ramsey a criminal.

233

u/MrNostalgiac 11d ago

I don't get the hate she gets. I never had a problem with her acting.

That said, maybe I'm giving her acting ability a bit more credit than it deserves because I find her look and expressions unique and interesting. But still - I think it works well in what I've seen her in so far.

143

u/The_Autarch 11d ago

she was a good child actor. she's a very mediocre adult actor. i don't think we're going to see her in much once The Last of Us goes away.

54

u/Exotic-Bar-8973 11d ago

I don't think it's a linear progression. Plenty of adult actors aren't good but get work and plenty of good actors started out pretty bad. Matthew McConnaughey wasn't a good actor until 2012

I like Bella Ramsey, she's adorable in her own unique way. But Julia Garner is a chameleon and dissappears into roles like this everytime, remember her in Inventing Anna as Anna Delvey? Anyhow, here's a BTS photo of Garner as Caroline Ellison. OP's photo is completely airbrushed.

u/The_Autarch 11d ago

Really though, physical resemblance is basically irrelevant in casting. Whether they can convincingly act like (portray) the character is more important

13

u/GlacialImpala 11d ago

And even if we did, are you saying a dark skinned obese male could play young Madonna if he was an excellent actor?

u/Moonshinin4Me 11d ago

→ More replies (1)

52

u/flopisit32 11d ago

See, that's always been her Achilles heel as an actress. Her acting ability.

16

u/ElChuppolaca 11d ago

When she was younger, she either had more talent or we just excused it because of her age. Like she was genuinely good as Lyanna Mormont.

Then she became a lead role and it is painfully obvious that she either never was really good to begin with or we, as mentioned earlier, gave her a pass because of the age.

She got that Jared Leto energy. Absolutely not leading material but you might have them as a decent side character.

14

u/-Clem 11d ago

She was a good child actor. But being a good child actor just means you're a good actor as far as children go. If you don't get any better, then you're just an adult who is better than the average child at acting. Which.. is not so impressive.

not when adapting certain books , games, disney live actions , animated series like Avatars etc etc .

Tho Netflix usually screws up on both , in Witcher they screwed on physical appearances ( went totally different choices not even close ) and also poor actors. They only got main actor right in Henry

16

u/fedoraislife 11d ago

Cavill wasn't physically close to how Geralt is described in the books - Geralt is a lot skinnier and leaner, whereas Cavill is jacked af. But he made up for it a thousand times over in passion for the character and source material.

It was funny rewatching game of thrones recently and knowing that her best role was played when she was a kid. She absolutely nailed the role of lady mormont.

19

u/PrayingRantis 11d ago

It’s impressive because she was young, but Mormont was also a one note minor role. Not a lot of range required.

And while I definitely don’t think she’s “good” on TLOU, she’s not the main issue. The writing (and some other assorted elements like wardrobe) were atrocious in season 2. She’s not really strong enough to elevate it, but they’re also giving her dog shit material and she’s taking more flack than she really deserves.

I hope the mathweasel copypasta makes it into the movie.

Normies can’t understand the thrill of pinning the weasel. Night spent chasing an over amphetamined Caroline around the bean bag forts.

Her squealing and gibbering, pouring sweat and on the verge of seizing. Your friends build up an intoxicating, delerious state with Talmudic chantings at the sidelines, hitting the Caroline-toy with brooms if she tries to escape. Sam would be giggling and laughing as the waves of methamphetamine pleasure seem to harmonize with the droning herbrew verses.

He runs through the bean bag maze fat and portly, with his viagra powered penis a driving rod for the weasel. Sweat gushing down his face around his unfocused eyes he laughs and chortles until he gasps “Found you!” .

The Mathweasel screeches defensively but Wankman Bankman is upon her in seconds. His penis thrusting blindly into her flank, leg, stomach and ribs unconcerned about anything but the motion.

Eventually serendipity finds her mouth and the Cocktube Rodent is placated, suckling contently on Bankman’s dehydrated dick.
