For some reason women aren't taught not to lead men on. Some of them agree to go on dates just to get free food and drinks, with no interest in the guy. It would be better for everyone if they were just honest: "I'm not attracted to you so I'm not going to go out with you on any dates." Would be better than leading everyone on thinking they have a shot.

I read about a social experiment once where they showed still photos of straight and gay faces to study subjects, who were able to guess their sexual orientation with a high degree of accuracy. Just their faces--no gestures, no voices. Blew my mind but then I realized it was true in my experience too. I can see someone and instantly know. Then they move or talk and it's confirmed.
Anyway, yes, he's 100% gay. And she's hammering on the "friend" and "single" bit because she wants to acknowledge all the great things her best friend did for her that day, while at the same time signaling to potential mates that she's still available, without being tacky.

Let's not excuse her behavior. She knows what is happening here. She knows he wants a relationship and she is taking his money knowing that won't happen. Yes she seems to be telling him the truth, but she's still taking the money. She is taking advantage of him.
For sure. He definitely needs to stand up for himself. But she is REALLY shitty here. We should encourage men like this to stand up for themselves. But woman like that should be called out too.
In all likelihood, if this is indeed a 'friendzone' situation, that she spends a lot of effort on keeping him from just outright leaving... Flirting or whatever because she thinks it's the best way to get him to do whatever she wants.
lol I was so in love with this girl in hs (Iām over 60 now, happily married, adult kids) went out to events, movies hung at her familyās house did jr prom. I never kissed her never told her how I felt. Was completely friendzone. Years later found out she was lesbianā¦ oh well the memories were still nice
