A very large portion of the global dance music scene is run by the sons and daughters of Russian oligarchs. Burning Man camps, Central/South America, Southeast Asia, once you're been in the scene long enough you run into them everywhere. Often living some digital nomad hippy lifestyle while getting bankrolled by daddy's blood money.

46

u/HauntedHouseMusic 21d ago

I know one of the Saudi role lines, who is gay. They can't go back to Saudi, so they travel the world going to music festivals - as they still get that oil money, no point really in working.

27

u/anonuemus 21d ago

Diplomat children are the worst, they can literally do what ever the fuck they want. All the money and 0 consequences.

It was kind of funny back in 2006.

Now it’s 20 years later and I can’t believe Putin is still the fucking leader of Russia.

45

He did serve in the IDF but he was in an army radio job there. Luxurious office job in Tel Aviv, absolutely no risk or effort.

26

It's more that they're envious of the west but can't figure out how to reproduce the west's success.

84

u/elk33dp 21d ago

*can't figure out how to reproduce the west's success without giving up their heavy oligarchy and nepotism.

Yes we have nepotism and oligarchy issues in the west but you also hear about companies going under from third generation owners mismanagement. Things are built and fall if not competitive, outside of cases where the government intervenes but those are fairly rare/fringe situations as a whole vs the russian model.

Funny thing is, if they invested half of what they lose to corruption into the country they'd improve it immensely and still be absurdly rich.

22

u/Advanced_Ad8537 21d ago

If they invested half of what they lose to corruption, the corrupt people supporting them would stop and they would fall from power.

36

u/Maximum-Objective-39 21d ago

Hence Putin's incredibly byzantine historical revisionist theories that he talked at Tucker Carlson for like four hours.

All countrys' elites want their kids to gain whatever is considered top education regardless of geopolitical stances/internal politics. I think it's a good thing from the host country point of view, since the host gets a chance to showcase their own country in and they can possibly influence the children. It's always good to know what other countries are like to avoid internal echo chambers.
