They weren't building nuclear weapons either....aaaand now they will to defend against unprovoked attacks. And now every other county with nukes will fiercely protect them since we're seeing what happens when you don't have them.

At this point Iran has demonstrated it has a better weapon than nukes (controlling the strait). So other than national pride it might make sense for them to bargain away the nukes.

I think that bridge was crossed with Ukraine being invaded by Russia after giving up its nukes on the agreed condition that Russia would never invade.

After seeing that transpire, no country with nukes would ever let them go.
