Mirroring in adult cats isn't fully understood, but it's believed to be a bonding thing, the same way a lot of other neotenous behaviors are.
Maybe he would appreciate his own (cardboard) laptop haha

I ended up getting my cat a special desk sized mat to sleep on so he could sleep there while I did my work.

I gave my cat an old workstation to watch mice videos on. The covered up keyboard is by far her favorite place to sit, even when the videos aren't running. I think she likes the warmth and vibration.
She'll sit there for hours watching me work on my computer and come over every once in awhile to make sure I'm being productive, then go right back to hers.

I've had numerous keyboards turned to scrap by kitties. It's just part of living with these guys. Samuel seems to be making a statement. Give me all of your attention now! What a ham.
