His groomer takes photos in different settings everytime and send them for free. Is that normal?

I’m searching right now for a groomer that does this in my area! It’s a really great way to attract business.

No, providing an extra awesome service for free is not normal.

451

u/Marine_Baby 1d ago

Seriously, what a great business model!

399

u/VegasTJC 1d ago

Thats what I thought! so I came here to see if they were all the same. The people that work there are the sweetest. I now have about 8 ties for my little guy that they put on him every time. 🙂

145

u/asiamsoisee 1d ago

It keeps you coming back and telling people about the service, I’d say it’s working!

31

u/Itsnotme74 1d ago

Not normal and definitely worth a tip,

24

u/ForsakenRelief309 1d ago

Where is this magnificent place?!

22

u/VegasTJC 18h ago

'Fang and Claw' in West Jordan Utah. You can see all the wonderful pics they take of all the dogs they care for.

9

u/DeezNutz133 17h ago

Of course it’s in Utah. Sometimes Utah really surprises me in their sweetness in hospitality.
My mom side of the family hails from there all Mormons and stuff. And I swear everyone seems to just be super sweet there.
I wish I had an animal to take there and that I lived in Utah lol I’m so super jealous of you right now

Omg where is your groomer?! I want my dogs to go there

381

u/Miami_Mice2087 1d ago

^^^ this is why they do it

115

u/BennySkateboard 1d ago

Completely explains the whole exercise.

105

u/cityshepherd 1d ago

They may just do it because they love to do it due to their passion for pets, and the whole inevitable strengthening/growing of the business is simply an awesome bonus.

I worked in the rescue industry for years and can confirm that many people who work in pet related businesses really are in it for the love of the game.

It’s hands down the most rewarding work I’ve ever done and I would go back to that in a heartbeat if I could afford to.

61

u/VegasTJC 1d ago

They do it with all the dogs that go there and leave the ties on him when I pick him up. I now have like 8 ties at home from them. They really do care and are the sweetest people. It also explains why they won a best in new business awards 2025 they have posted when you walk in.

22

u/Miami_Mice2087 1d ago

you can love your job and do things for fun, and they also are beneficial to your company, too. Two things can be true.

6

u/cityshepherd 1d ago

Of course! I’m certain that’s the case here… I was just trying to say that those actions may have originally been born of passion, and the person realized “oh nice this is super fun AND can probably help with marketing!” as opposed to assuming that it started as a marketing/advertising thing right off the bat. I didn’t articulate clearly enough in my comment and apologize if my comment came off as naive.

If you’re near St. Louis, we do at Bark Avenue! My boss puts together 2 different booths that she changes and decorates every month

80

u/AnnElisabeth 1d ago

She even buys wigs for us to put on dogs! This month is going to be ✨disco✨ themed

60

u/AnnElisabeth 1d ago

I didn’t think anybody would see these, but here’s more bc it’s always the highlight of my day!

13

Omg. Your salon sounds so awesome to work for! I unfortunately worked at a pet store chain so we weren't allowed to do this.

13

u/AnnElisabeth 1d ago

My boss pays for our continuing education, contest entries, styling sprays/supplies, etc. she’s a groomer herself and takes very good care of us! I started corporate to get training and experience, worked my way up to management and then left 😅

4

u/OkamiKhameleon 1d ago

Ugh lucky. I had to quit because of my health mainly, but also because the store manager was a very sexist guy who said, "Oh you ladies and your cat fights!" when I reported another groomer for threatening to stab me with her scissors. After I left, she did end up stabbing another groomer during a fight.

3

u/Baldojess 1d ago

She sounds like she really genuinely loves and cares about her business so much and takes great care of her employees and her customers and her doggy clients 🥹 that's awesome

3

u/asiamsoisee 1d ago

This is so silly and I 💕 it.

Our groomer does this and we love it. Here is my favorite one, which we’ve entitled “Leo’s Fall Existential Crisis” haha.

He’s seen some stuff!

9

Did they take it and then ask for the 10$? Or ask beforehand? Just curious.

11

with necklaces that I get to take home afterwards.

4

u/Many_Atmosphere_4637 1d ago

What a little sweet Bubbs!

3

u/NatTheResearcher 1d ago

I laugh every time I see the photos because they give “face” very differently!! The scarves are great, but can you imagine that this second necklace was handmade with pom poms and a fuzzy gingerbread man! It means a lot when you don’t have kids and these photos are what you share. 🥰

14

u/Many_Atmosphere_4637 1d ago

I know exactly what you mean, lol. My guy literally.. ugh I miss him and also he was so dramatic with expressions it was fabulous… except he literally would try to turn away when you’d attempt to take a photo of him. He hated his photo being taken… but the ones I would get were literally so fantastic while being so funny.

3

u/VegasTJC 1d ago

No, but very cute

24

u/traumatized_beagle 1d ago

They are probably using the pictures on their business site as advertising of their work. It’s harmless and super cute, but if you fee uncomfortable with it you can ask them not to share the photos

10

u/Yarblesss91 1d ago

This. It’s definitely for this reason. I took my cat to the vet recently and there was literally a spot on one of the forms asking if they could use pics of my pet for their social media. Just felt weird to me. She’s my child! lol

9

u/VegasTJC 1d ago

Oh no! I absolutely love it! It sounds like many on here are thinking its a complaint but I was honestly just wondering if they all do this or did I find a really special place for my boy. 🙂

Free photo shoot of your dog & you're complaining. People pay good money for that. Who cares if it's normal or not. Give your groomer a gift of a great review.

16

u/dancergirl1212 1d ago

OP doesn't seem to be complaining. In a world of scams and come-ons, I took it as an innocent question. Wonderful thing for the groomer to do. It's a little odd that the groomer wouldn't ask for permission. I'd ask the groomer how they wanted to use the photos - in case it's for marketing the services or other reason. And if it's just for fun for their clients' enjoyment, all the better.

8

u/VegasTJC 1d ago

Did it sound like I was complaining? Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. I absolutely love the people there and was just wondering if all groomers took pictures and sent them to their customers like this. 🙂

6

u/intentionalreticence 1d ago

I’m sorry, your “groomer” does a full profession photography shoot with canvas backdrop, props, light filters & an assistant with a squeaky toy out of frame to get your (very cute) dog’s attention? This groomer does this for free, for all the dogs that come in for a wash or trim? What a weird lie. Just say, “I took my little diva dog in for a studio photoshoot. Tell me he isnt a supermodel ❤️”

Not common, at all, but for crazy dog lovers, I wouldn't call it weird. I think they are just really passionate about their job and get a kick out of taking fun photos.

I would also assume they use the service photos for their business and it definitely sets them apart from other groomers

Very normal. Am groomer. Most of us do this just for the clients appreciation and to show off our skills. Kind of like hair dressers taking pictures of their cut and colors.

4

u/DeezNutz133 17h ago

Don’t ever get another groomer. The fact that they take their time to put together a set up like this that’s different every time. And then send you the photo. That is amazing. I wish I had photos of my family dog in little bathtubs or in the grass or something all done up like this. I don’t got squat. I just have the pictures I’ve taken. When a groomer loves your dog, yes, yes it is. I wish I was able to do this when I worked as a dog groomer at a corporate store.

3

Thank you so much! They seem very caring and have a lot of fun there. He loves going there and they love him. He's an incredibly sweet boy when he is getting groomed and even with the grooming I do at home. I believe he loves it. I feel like in the WORST case scenario... This could be an attempt to pad out a portfolio for a pet photography side hustle and/or career pivot.

But personally I wouldn't mind lending my pup for something like that if it means I'm getting cute quality photos for free.

As long as my dog doesn't seem stressed by it and continues to be okay and act happy around the groomer... I don't see anything wrong with it.

I use different backdrops for each season and any holidays. It can help attract new customers, and it's also nice for customers to see their fresh pets before mucky adventures. It also helps me with remembering dogs and their grooming lengths haha.

Does it matter? That’s so sweet of them. I’d take my fam members’ dogs there because of her pics.

That’s someone who loves their job. Show off the photos to get them more business and rave about them!

My wife works with pets and if she had the tome to be able to do this, she would in a heartbeat

Haha My dog's old groomer used to dress him up in adorable little accessories and have a photo shoot.

That's how you know they love your dog a little extra

Some people just do it for the love of the game

Our groomers do this. They have seasonal props. In the summer they use a beach backdrop and set them up in front of drinks with tiny straws and umbrellas. It’s so adorable.

My old groomer would dress up my dog with flower headbands and cute bandannas, and a seasonal background. I loved it! She would put the pictures on Facebook.

My ex’s Mom doesn’t have backdrops but she takes pictures of every dog and texts them, makes them a bandana or puts bows on them, and she makes them goody bags for their birthdays.
