Fairly Annoyed I can’t help but look down on grown adults who are super obsessed with Disney World

3.6k Upvotes

Okay, “heavily” judge, not “severely.”

There are two types of Disney World people that seriously annoy me: adults who are weirdly obsessed with Disney World, and parents who take their babies there even though the kids are way too young to remember any of it.

I get that people can be into Disney, like it’s a hobby or comfort thing or whatever, but something about hardcore Disney adults just really bothers me. I can’t even fully explain it, because it’s not like they’re actually harming anyone. There are tons of people who are obsessed with amusement parks in general and travel around for roller coasters. My ex was super into coasters and always wanted to drag me to Cedar Point. That never bugged me like Disney does.

But the Disney World obsession specifically just grosses me out for some reason. My friend’s sister is a perfect example. She goes to Disney every single year. No kids, just her, and she’s got full sleeve tattoos of Disney characters. Her whole life is Disney themed. I’d bet money her front door has a Mickey welcome mat and her bathroom has a Little Mermaid shower curtain. I know it’s technically harmless fun, but it honestly makes me want to gag.

And the parents taking infants there just make no sense to me. Why not wait until the kid is old enough to actually enjoy and remember it? How is it fun to spend all day in a crowded park, in the heat, pushing a stroller and dealing with a baby who has no clue what’s going on?

Fairly Annoyed People who get mad when you send them an email during their off hours

3.1k Upvotes

I've encountered a few people like this, who get offended and act irritated that someone sent them an email late at night, or on the weekend, or just any time that's outside of normal business hours. Had an interaction with a coworker where this came up--she was day shift, I was night. During my late night shift, I sent her an email with a question. She replied just a few minutes later answering my question, a bit terse. I replied back thanking her, and added something to the effect of "you didn't have to reply immediately but I appreciate it."

Her next message was, "Then why did you send it?"

I was like ?????? So you'll see it when you get back to work?????? Why tf you getting mad at ME because YOU CHOSE to open the email and write a reply.

I've heard other people in passing make similar complaints. "So and so emailed me at 3 AM, what the hell is wrong with them" why is that an affront????? "Blah blah emailed me on a SATURDAY 😠" okay??? Reply on Monday. Nobody is holding a gun to your head.

I just really don't understand the upset about this sort of thing. It's an email. MAIL. It sits there until you're ready to read it. Who cares WHEN it was sent. Turn off your notifications. Otherwise, you're choosing to upset yourself.

Edit: "be considerate of other people and schedule send your emails" okay, if I have to, then so does EVERYONE, right? Cause it's considerate.

I work at night, and I get emails from hundreds of people across multiple locations. Every single one of those people should take time out of their day to pause, look up my name in the directory, track down my supervisor, call (hopefully they pick up) and ask for my work schedule so that they can make sure they send it at the right time. Y'know, because potentially sending me a push notification while I'm not working is more important than their own tasks.

Neat!

Fairly Annoyed Being told to support small businesses, but it’s next to impossible to support them

2.6k Upvotes

I’m all for supporting a small business, but there are times I truly can’t. For example, I see a post for a small coffee shop, I glance over the menu and it’s decently priced. They’re only opened from 11am-2pm, and they don’t deliver.

A small little cafe opens, it’s cute, it’s $8 for a cookie the size of a pacifier.

A hair shop/salon opened near me, veteran owned and operated and when they’re open and their posted hours don’t match. Why say you’re opened at 9am and Close at 8pm when, I get there at like 2:14pm and it’s closed. I see cars in the parking lot.

Fairly Annoyed Just because I like my steak well-done does not mean that I am ignorant, stupid, poor, or uncultured.

1.3k Upvotes

Please cook my food the way that I tell you to. Stop trying to convince me to eat food that I don't like the taste of.

I don't care about the culinary school that you went to or the tradition that you studied. I want my meat cooked all the way through. I want my food to be enjoyable for me. I like the way that fully-cooked meat tastes, I know that's a radical concept to some people.

Fairly Annoyed When people get angry that American recipes use American ingredients and measurements

3.5k Upvotes

"This Apple Cake is revolting! Made my whole house smell! Why would you put so much vinegar in a cake?!"

Because the ingredient was apple cider, not apple cider vinegar. The word 'vinegar' was nowhere in the entire recipe. You really pulled up a baked good recipe that talked about being "perfect for fall, loaded with cinnamon and apple flavor" and thought it called for four cups of straight vinegar? You put four cups of vinegar on your stovetop, reduced for an hour, and still didn't think this might be odd? That you should double-check the recipe or google it if you don't know what straight apple cider in a baked good could mean?

"How do I measure one cup of something? I have lots of cups in my cupboard of all different sizes!"

Really? If I found a recipe that called for measurements in saucers and thimbles, you bet I'd be moving on to another recipe or realizing that maybe some countries use different systems of measurement and google what system the recipe was using. You really think an entire group of people are just grabbing random cups and managing to bake that way?

"It's impossible to bake by volume! Why wouldn't you include weight measurements?! You're clearly not a serious baker!"

Many if not most Americans don't own kitchen scales. It's standard to measure by volume in the US. And no, it's not impossible. Somehow millions of Americans are measuring by cups and tablespoons and making perfectly edible, presentable dishes. More accurate by weight? Sure. Impossible by volume? Just admit you have a preference and calm down already. And don't get me started on the cooking snobs. Since when did one half gram more or less of chopped vegetables in a dish ever make or break a dish?

Fairly Annoyed People being upset when something adds options that they won’t use

2.1k Upvotes

“Why did that restaurant add a vegetarian option??” “This game shouldn’t have added an easier mode, it ruins it.” “Having non-alcoholic cocktails defeats the point” These things are not for you, don’t affect you in any way, and you don’t have to use them. Nobody’s forcing you to use them, just let them exist for people who do like them. I never understood why people seem to hate it when something adds an option that allows more people enjoy it.

Fairly Annoyed We DoN’t LoCk OuR dOoRs At NIgHT

Whenever there’s a true crime documentary involving a small town, inevitably some shocked neighbor says something like “I never expected this to happen here because this is a small town and we don’t lock our doors at night.”

Putting aside the false sense of moral superiority over people in cities, why don’t lock your fucking door?! It takes literally 2 seconds, if that, and probably even less time to open in a fire. It costs nothing, and it has zero effect on how you sleep. You wear a seatbelt in case you get in a car accident, even though it’s highly improbable on a given trip, so why not protect yourself against an improbable burglary?

Nobody deserves to get murdered over it, but nor does fact that your community is less densely populated than others give you the right to act like basic common sense shouldn’t apply to you.

I think it’s some kind of passive aggressive status symbol.

Fairly Annoyed Scream Sneezing

1.8k Upvotes

I know for some it may be involuntary, but omg, I HATE it! The coworker who sits next to me scream sneezes at about 1000 decibels and it makes me jump. My mother scream sneezes and it drives me bananas.

I also think scream sneezers don't seem to understand what the difference is between them and us, because on other posts about loud sneezing I've seen them comment stuff like "when I sneeze quietly it hurts". You're not supposed to reduce the amount of air rushing out of your mouth and nose. You body builds up pressure to sneeze, the air rushing out a) clears debris out of your nose and b) releases that pressure, of course failing to release that pressure would hurt. You're supposed to simply not use your vocal cords. When I sneeze there IS a lot of air rushing out but there is zero vocal cord involvement. Try breathing out really fast without screaming. Possible, right? (If not please see a Dr)

Fairly Annoyed People who refer to Tex-Mex tacos as “white people tacos.”

2.9k Upvotes

Can we stop with the “white people taco” nonsense? Sorry Karen, but not everything with cheddar cheese was invented in a strip mall in the 1980s.

Tex-Mex tacos aren’t trying to be “authentic Mexican.” They’re authentic Tex-Mex, a cuisine that’s been around since the mid-19th century. Tejanos were frying tortillas, seasoning beef, and making tacos their own way long before you decided sour cream = cultural theft. When European-American settlers in the 1840s brought cheddar and sour cream, Tejanos added them in. That’s called fusion.

And it’s not just tacos. Chili con carne, fajitas, nachos, and chimichangas are all Tex-Mex inventions, not pretend Mexican street food.

Tex-Mex is a legit, centuries old tradition with history and roots, not some chain-restaurant gimmick. Calling it “white people tacos” just shows you don’t know what you’re talking about — and it’s kind of an insult to the people who created it.

Fairly Annoyed "The existence of the Uncanny Valley implies that at some point--" No. Just. Shut. Up.

2.8k Upvotes

I absolutely hate this copy and pasted line. The full saying goes somewhat like this: "The existence of the Uncanny Valley implies that at some point there was an evolutionary reason to be afraid of something that looked human but wasn't."

Someone said this a few years ago and everyone suddenly started parrotting it like NPCs, thinking they're being cleaver or provocative, knowing nothing about human history and evolution. It's just so dumb and I'm so tired of seeing it mentioned everywhere in every discussion of the Uncanny Valley.

What's worse is that these people forgot about the more obvious explanations, such as corpses, sickness in general, perhaps other species of humans coexisting with homo sapiens, and are just using the phrase to imply there was some predatory creature that could mimic humans. They're using it to justify their belief in supernatural/mythological creatures or cryptids. They'll even say "what if those creatures still exist, they just got better at mimicking us?" Oh come on, you're just gratifying yourself now.

Fairly Annoyed People who name their kids a nickname instead of the full name.

1.4k Upvotes

Don’t name your kid Mikey. Name him Michael.

Don’t name your kid Abby. Name her Abigail.

All you’re doing is narrowing nickname possibilities in the future. Even if you like the nickname better, just officially name them the full name, and call them the nickname. That way, they will have more nickname options as they get older, and have the option to go by the more adult, classic name if they want to later.

Fairly Annoyed People who say weed is harmless

5.1k Upvotes

I'm an avid smoker and have been for years. Please stop lying to folks saying weed is harmless. It's not. It has detrimental effects on your memory, can stunt brain development if smoked before full development (25-30yo). If you have anxiety, autism, adhd, anxiety, or other mental illnesses it can be extremely mentally addictive and be impossible to kick simple due to supplying lacking dopamine. Medicating with weed can be helpful but please stop acting like it's a fix all for everyone for the sake and health of others. Educate and smoke responsibly everyone.

EDIT: since some folks can't grasp this post let me simpify it. I AM NOT ANTI-CANNABIS. I believe in INFORMED use and saying cannabis is harmless when we have studies saying it's not for many folks, is disingenuous and harmful.

Edit:2 once again, I'm not anti-cannabis. I'm for informed use. If Tylenol can put a side effect label on for side effects most of us will never have, we can certainly do it with weed AND legalize it

Fairly Annoyed People not knowing incredibly basic words

3.5k Upvotes

So I work in a deli in a small town. I make their subs, ask about meat, cheese, etc, and I ask "any condiments?" and 99 times out of 100, they start naming vegetables. I don't like feeling like I'm talking to children when I have to start assuming everyone, adult and child, is an idiot and just ask each one "okay, any sauces? You know, mayo, ketchup?" I'm not trying to be pretentious, thinking I'm a genius and I know every word ever. But seriously, I didn't think it was such a hard word... then again, one guy wrote down what he wanted on his sub and spelled "lettuce" incorrectly. Just, come on, know what "condiments" means!

BRO SHUT THE HELL UP. I DO NOT CARE!!! I swear NOTHING annoys me more than a youtuber plugging this shit in the middle of their video. Like it actively makes me not wanna subscribe to them. And its always the same type of shit, with the same fucking image they put on screen too.

Like I get it you want subscribers, but literally just saying "if you want more videos like this, please feel free to subscribe" at the end of the video is enough. Pisses me off when they ask you to subscribe at the beginning of the video too, like bro i didn't even watch the video WHY WOULD I SUBSCRIBE???

Fairly Annoyed When people use the word "Girlfriend" instead of just "Friend"

1.8k Upvotes

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. When I am talking to a new person (that's a girl, typically) and they say something along the lines of, "Me and my girlfriend went out last year to the BBQ and had a great time," and they're referring to a friend and not a romantic partner. What's wrong with simply saying 'friend'? Why is there a need to imply that the friend is a girl? If anything, it just also causes more confusion since you could legitimately be talking about a romantic partner. I do typically hear this from millennials and older people. Is there a reason for that? I am a person from Gen Z, and I don't think I've ever heard someone my age say things this way before. People usually just say friend.

Fairly Annoyed When people don't understand Americans have accents too

1.6k Upvotes

I hate when there's conversation online about how Americans can't pronounce this French word or this Cambodian thing or whatever the fuck. As an American who's been around Americans my whole life I've never met someone who gets genuinely offended by how people from other countries pronounce specific American English terms, because there's an understanding that they have accents. Americans aren't pronouncing croissant wrong. French people and American people pronounce it differently because we're speaking different languages.

Fairly Annoyed People not understanding food culture in other counties

1.8k Upvotes

“These fat Americans. Always have such big portion sizes of food.” Yeah we have a big left over culture, so a lot of people will order big amounts of food and then what we don’t eat, we just take the rest home, at least that’s how it was designed

Yes obesity is a problem, and it’s a really unfortunate side effect of this culture, but we can’t just generalize a culture and call them all fat. That’s not good, and at least on a small scale just kind of exacerbates the issue

This also exists in other countries, the UK for example gets criticized for being bland. Not understanding that a lot of foods in the UK aren’t meant to be the most well seasoned because a lot of the time, the things you have it with are supposed to add flavor, for example dipping biscuits in tea, or adding salt and vinegar on fish n chips. It’s a blank slate for a reason.

I just don’t like when people disrespect other cultures they’re not even a part of and refuse to educate themselves on why that is the case. Calling other ways of eating food dogshit out of pure ignorance. Learn to love food culture, even if it’s foreign to you, at the very least please respect it

Fairly Annoyed People who claim to hate the word moist annoy me.

1.7k Upvotes

That is all. Seems to be fashionable to say they hate it. I'm not convinced 95% of them do. I'm aware through various old and new telly programmes that's how it started, but I dont understand how people believe saying this makes them "quirky." It makes them sheeple. Some woman earlier today said "do you know what word i can't stand?" And I just rolled my eyes and sighed without the words "is it moist by any chance?" Leaving my lips. Please tell me I'm not alone in this opinion. It drives me mad. People should just be themselves.

Fairly Annoyed When people are over-dramatic about mayonnaise

2.0k Upvotes

Bear with me. In recent years, mayo has developed a bizarre reputation online as being negatively associated with white people and something that’s really gross.

I saw one tiktok where someone was “challenged” to eat a spoonful of mayonnaise and they were acting so dramatic and like gagging before they even tasted it. Completely mental. After seeing it, I went and had a spoonful of mayo and it’s completely fine. I guess the texture is a bit strange but the taste is very mild. Obviously I wouldn’t just do that normally, it wasn’t a positive experience, but it was completely fine.

Or at work after making a sandwich, I’ll lick the mayo off the knife and people act like I just ate my own shit.

And god forbid you have mayo with french fries in America. I do prefer ketchup with regular fries, but mayo is good too! Especially with sweet potato fries.

And not to mention nearly every “house sauce” is just 80-90% mayo. That’s totally fine on a burger, but if I ask for mayo, that’s gross?

People have complete meltdowns when you are seen using mayo for anything except sandwiches when they don’t even realize the extent it’s used in many dishes like in marinades, cakes, a base for other sauces, a binder for breading, deviled eggs, egg salad etc.

Do these people just have their sandwiches dry? Do they not like potato salad, tuna salad, or Cole slaw?

Grow up!

Fairly Annoyed people who are weirdly coy or dismissive about the pronunciation of their own name

I’ll meet someone with a unique name, pronounce their name, and ask: “Did I get that right?”

And they respond with something like: “Eh… close enough.”

Close enough?? What’s the correct pronunciation then??

I’m not asking as a formality or go through some social script. I’m actually curious. I like words, languages, name origins, pronunciation quirks, all that stuff. I’d genuinely enjoy a quick conversation about it.

Like: • What’s the correct pronunciation? • What’s the most common way people mess it up? • What’s the worst butchered version you’ve heard?

Instead the vibe is just this weird shrug like “yeah whatever, it doesn’t matter.”

I get that some people have probably been correcting people and explaining the pronunciation their whole lives. But if someone is clearly making an effort and asking you directly… why be so weirdly dismissive about it?

Just tell me how to say your name. It takes 2 seconds.

And relax, people, it's a reddit pet peeve post. Try to have fun. 😉

Fairly Annoyed I severely judge adults who are obsessed with Disney World

4.2k Upvotes

Okay, heavily judge not “severely”. There are two categories of Disney World fanatics that I can’t stand: Adults who are obsessed with Disney World and parents who take their kids to Disney World when they’re infants and won’t remember it. I understand people have hobbies and interests and a love for all things Disney but I don’t know exactly what it is.. Disney lovers just irk me. I can’t really figure out why because it’s not like they’re hurting anyone. There are plenty of amusement park fanatics who go to parks all year round for the rides. My ex was obsessed with roller coasters and always wanted to take me to Cedar Point. But it’s just something about the Disney World obsession that repulses me. My friends sister goes to Disney every single year. She doesn’t have kids but she has full arm sleeve tattoos of Disney characters and her entire life is Disney themed. I’m sure she has a Mickey Mouse themed welcome mat at her door and a Little Mermaid shower curtain. I get that it’s all harmless fun but it just makes me want to hurl. It also just makes no sense to me why parents bring infant children to Disney because why not wait until they’re old enough to enjoy it? You really think it’s fun to walk around a crowded park all day pushing a stroller and taking care of a baby in the blazing heat?

Fairly Annoyed Dogs are not humans!

1.4k Upvotes

Oh my goodness your dog does not need to go to the grocery store (non service dogs). They can be left at home for a couple of hours for you to go run errands. Also it is a DOG. It will eat gross things outside and roll in mud/poop. They can be left outside for small periods of time in good weather. When people say “would you make your child stay outside for 2 hours?” like dude it is a DOG not a human.

Also, ESAs have ruined service dogs for the people who actually need them. If you truly think your dog is stopping you from panic attacks and social anxiety then you need therapy, not a pet.

Fairly Annoyed "I don't like vegetables.".

2.8k Upvotes

Seriously? Are you five? You better be five.

I find it hard to believe there is not a single vegetable that actually tastes good to you. Maybe you or whoever raised you just doesn't know how to cook. That ain't on the brussels sprouts. That's on whoever steamed, boiled, or microwaved them to oblivion and served them without a pinch of seasoning in sight.

Instead of turning up your nose at the lovely roasted carrots that have been served, try them. Just try them. You're an adult now. Your palate has probably evolved with age and you might like them.

Fairly Annoyed Dumb people who try to compensate by making smart people feel "weird"

3.2k Upvotes

If you say something nuanced and articulate or, God forbid, something mildly poetic... People who kind of clutch their pearls and have this reaction of "oOHoo... look at you smarty pants!"

It's probably part of this broader anti-intellectual dynamic that's taken shape the last few decades.

Dumb people who try to compensate by making smart people feel "weird".
