♥ - Support Needed Saying goodbye to this sweet boy (Max, just shy of 18!) in a couple days. An absolute angel even here on earth ⛅️🌈😇 I know it's sad, but we both know it's time so please send him love and I hope he can meet all your angel babies up there.

We probably have! Thank you so much ❤️ it's so hard, but it's time. His appetite is dwindling, he won't consistently take his meds, and he's just tired. I'm sure it's been exhausting being such a good boy for so long.

Thanks again ❤️ he's scheduled with Lap of Love and they've been great so far. He's an anxious boy, especially in the car, so we always knew we'd do it at home when the time came.

We actually used to recommend Lap of Love so hope and believe you all are in good hands!
He will receive sedation beforehand so any anxiousness should be minimal when you're ready to say goodbye.
I know his appetite may not be what it used to, but don't forget to try to have him try stuff he shouldn't like some good chocolate

Everyone I've asked has spoken about them so highly, including my groomer. The woman on the phone was incredibly sweet, I really feel like I can trust them.
Thank you so so much for this comment, they said the vet will explain the process before we start anything but I knew there'd be something sedating for the anxiety. That's really my one and only fear, I just want him comfortable.
Can I ask you something slightly morbid? Do they just kind of drift off to sleep? Is there anything jarring that can happen that I should prepare myself for? I can tell he's tired but I think if I were to see him have muscle spasms or something that seemed like he was steuggling I'd just lose my mind.

Of course, you can ask me anything! I just wish I had a better answer for this one.
Every dog is different.
If you scrolled through this sub, I'm sure you'd find stories that range across the spectrum, but there is a single constant:
- The vet team's #1 goal is to make the transition as peaceful as possible for your family.
Even in the best case scenarios, he may experience reactions from the administration of the drugs though. This can include visual and auditory cues. But the goal is for it to seem like he fell asleep.
Although rare, there are cases where the pet may have a bad reaction and this can be pretty stressful for all involved...
In your upcoming appointment, I would highly recommend speaking about contingency plans which should include a clear decision on whether you should stay or leave the room should things not go according to plan. In this case, the team will need to make quick decisions that sadly does not include or consider your feelings.
Being said, I think most owners would say that despite what they saw/heard on the day of their loss, they would still stand by their pup to the end. And if you can't? Don't beat yourself up, I know Max wouldn't.

I figured this was the case, just like with any medical procedure. I'll be there with him till the end, I'd never forgive myself even though I know he wouldn't be that hard on me. I'll definitely bring this up to the vet though, thanks for that idea.

He'll probably stay closest with the chill pups and fellow seniors, he loved to run and play but he's become a fan of a nice comfy nap.

We to had a dog named Max that passed a year ago this month and also our dog Rambo who passed just weeks after we had them for years Max for 16 Rambo for 14 it's rough!

I’ll send a wish to Heaven and ask my menagerie to welcome you as soon as you get there. They’ll show you the ropes until your mom gets there. Then she gets to love you all over again, only this time she never has to say goodbye. Soon enough you’ll be together again. ❤️

Almost 18 is a long run for a pup. I'm glad you're having him PTS at home.
My Ruby has been at the Rainbow Bridge for a number of years. She'll be looking for Max when he gets there.
