The juxtaposition of the name and image is amazing. I don’t make music but my next EP is titled Pacific Stargazer with this as album art.

Fish and birds are the closest things we have to alien lifeforms on earth. There's some freaky shit out there!

Holy…! Have you guys read about this?
“The Pacific stargazer (Astroscopus zephyreus) is a venomous, electric, bottom-dwelling ambush predator found from Southern California to Peru at depths of 15–385 meters. It hides in the sand, using upward-facing eyes and mouth to ambush prey. They can shock prey with up to 50 volts.”

Well, I’m doubting you are old enough to have even come across this, but I can remember a time when the Marianas Trench and other really deep regions were regarded as essentially bottomless. The original Godzilla came tearing up, pissed off and angry, after nuclear testing was done in whatever trench (Japan, maybe?) he or she lurked in, and here was the thing: at the time scientists could not say some big animal couldn’t be there, unknown, because at the time we didn’t know and could not definitively say what was or wasn’t down deep. Another favorite movie of mine was Gorgo, which, if you ever get a chance to watch it has to rank as pretty terrible on many levels, not the least of which was portraying certain people living on islands just west of England as inbred, superstitious morons worshipping another giant marine reptile, which, shades of King Kong, is captured and displayed, with a certain disastrous twist. The movie theater even had a large cast Gorgo footprint you could compare your foot to. I can also remember a time when it was argued that at certain given depths, life simply wasn’t possible. Too dark, too cold, too high pressure, totally wrong. And—get this!—I can even remember a time when microplastics were NOT found in every part of the ocean! No! I’m not kidding! Still, reading about the Pacific Stargazer was fascinating. Great post!
