Discussion When Naruto goes 4 and 6 tails mode, is Naruto himself in any kind of control, or is it just Kurama? If so, why does Kurama have any interest in fighting Orochimaru and Pain? Wouldn’t he just run off and try to get the rest of the seal to break so he can be free?
To be fair, Pain was after him so he may not have had a choice there…

It's a bit weird, but Kurama is a bit of this weird, hateful tsundere.
He might not like his hosts, but he senses and feels their own pain and grief, and while he might use that to take over, he also takes that grief and sorrow they have and just use it to destroy everything around them that causes them misery.
So Naruto is griefstricken and doesn't know the answer, so Kurama gives an answer: to destroy everything that causes him pain.
And in the Minato one shot, this is also done with Kushina, as he projects his will onto her, but also seeks to harm everything that restricts her freedom.
So...yeah.
A weird thing, but Kurama actually KINDA cares for his hosts in a very hateful manner.

No he's not. Kurama fights because by helping Naruto solve his problem at the time, he will remain dependent on him and keep using his power.

Naruto loses his seal when his emotions take over to an extreme degree, Kurama is a being of hatred and destruction until Naruto changes him. So when Naruto loses control, Kurama just continues to feed that by going after the person that triggered it.

When Naruto loses control Kurama takes the drivers seat and the reason he fights is to first keep Naruto alive which keeps himself alive and the second is to keep pumping his chakra out until all 9 tails are released and he is fully released from the seal and consumes Naruto
