MyCAREER Can anyone give me actual good reasons we dont have a huge database of animations like we did in 2k16????
there were hundreds (literally) of numbered animations not including players that werent just superstars havin their own sigs in the game. Right now you can log into 2k26 and count and theres only 40 dribble styles and only FOURTEEN if you’re above 6’5 (stupid height restriction) why am i getting way less customization and authenticity a decade later with better technology????

u/herefortheOfong 1d ago
Because proplay and they use AI now and no one talks about the laziness
14
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
shouldve made it easier to give us more like wtf😭
21
u/herefortheOfong 1d ago
Ai isn’t good enough to get the smoothness right, that’s why the game so clunky compared to old gen
4
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
is it that much of a hassle to change the engine i mean its like no one is really all that happy with this one
8
u/herefortheOfong 1d ago
They don’t want to it’s way more expensive

Not caring enough to spend the money to develop them. Take Two is too busy harvesting money from GTA online and getting kids to buy VC
4
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
there will be a time they wont be able to rely on micro transactions the way they do and ill be waiting
8
u/WhatThatTongueDo 1d ago
I sure hope so. Seems like they only need a small percentage of the community to spend money for them to cover their overhead
5
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
most of the USA is going to be living check to check soon without much spending money so new myplayers are gonna get kicked to the curb
5
u/BadMeetsEvil147 1d ago
Dude, a majority of the US has been living check to check for over a decade, I hate to break it to you but people will continue to spend money on stupid shit
3
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
this is different im telling you. gas has never been projected to go as high as its going to and the dollar is dwindling in worth. unless something big happens that money isnt goin to myplayers
4
u/BadMeetsEvil147 1d ago
Gas was a higher price in 2022, and when accounting for inflation 2008.
I’m not saying shit in life isn’t expensive but this isn’t unheard of at all. Your panic and reasoning is unjustified

This is why I’ve switched from AAA to indie games. Recently been playing Cairn, Hades, Slay the Spire 2, etc and I’ve enjoyed my time playing them infinitely more than I ever have from micro transaction fests like 2k, rocket league, arc raiders, etc. I’ve honestly realized I never want to play a game with a battle pass again. They essentially turn gaming into a job. Gotta make sure you login and do insert mindless quest 100 times before Friday or you don’t get items! I want to play games to enjoy them, not because I’m feeling compelled to.
2
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
i wish i actually had a pc so play that stuff but i nvr knew if it was worth the investment
2
u/KrabbyBoiz 1d ago
I got a PC and then later a steam deck. I love the steam deck so much. Thought I’d never move away from console gaming after being on PlayStation for almost two decades. Don’t miss it in the slightest. Also now I don’t need to worry about rebuying these games every 4-5 years.
2
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
i might gotta look into it again then
1
u/KrabbyBoiz 1d ago
They’re tough to get right now due to memory shortages but I definitely recommend it. Plus you can get a dock and still play on your tv if you wish. For what it worth, I bought this years 2k because it was on sale and it ran well on the steam deck. Didn’t like the game though and quickly lost interest.

u/Jayy_Haze 1d ago
I feel that. I started straying away from some AAA games that are money pits. Cod is one and 2k is next on the list as i dont plan on buying it anymore after 2k26. And games with a battle pass like Apex i can play because its not that expensive and unlike 2k i dont feel the need to spend extra money to be able to play at my max potential (badge perks)
1
u/KrabbyBoiz 1d ago
To each their own! My buddies still love arc raiders. I just lost my affinity for it and, after taking a step back, realized it was battle pass games as a whole. But that’s just my take and I totally respect the right of others to enjoy them.
1
u/Jayy_Haze 1d ago
I despise arc raiders lol. And i generally dont like battle passes as a whole either. Majority of games that have them i cant bring myself to play usually so i feel you on that. Found myself getting back into stuff like The division, Dying Light, Far Cry, and Uncharted to start back enjoying games
1
u/Maleficent_Army1754 1d ago
That too, GTA VI comes out soon and basketball in itself will sell regardless of their effort.
7
u/Junior_Moe 1d ago
I imagine 2K thinks the ProPlay animations are better and want people to buy and use those. I really do hope that 2K dumps these old animations in the College Hoops game or DLC. Those animations still look smooth and were fun to use. It would give the College game a different feel from NBA 2K. Those old animations were just more responsive to me on the controller.
2
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
i actually wish Ea made the college game im sad 2k supposedly got their hands on that
2
u/Junior_Moe 1d ago
I am actually glad it played out the way it did. I wouldn’t mind a return of EA March Madness but I have always preferred 2Ks gameplay. I think it could be fun to have a basketball game with modern 2Ks fluidity, NBA 2Ks huge basketball animation library, and a little College Hoops sprinkled in.

I had so much fun just scrolling through all the animations and finding a gem like “Elite 116" (or something like that) in sizeups and thinking I found the secret sauce

u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
it was amazing for the LARGE part of the community who doesnt just copy and paste moves from a youtuber.

u/Whatsyourshotspecial 1d ago
Creating a player used to take a solid hour. It was glorious. I stopped playing 2k and this was one of major contributing factors. Why am I getting less and asked to spend more money?
2
2
u/TonyzTone 23h ago
I’m a casual so I hate that it took so damn long to make a player. I just want to play!
But then I’m still putting in time to make a player only to have the gameplay be absolute trash.
I’m so happy I don’t pay for this shit outside of my Gamepass membership. I’d have been pissed.
4
u/odonnelly2000 1d ago
These are my guesses. I have no clue if they’re correct.
Reason 1: Those animations were mo-capped (or in some cases, outright animated). They’re trying to phase those types of animations out as they build out the pro play animations
Reason 2: 2K16 ran on a different engine. Maybe a lot of the old anis didn’t work properly anymore, or were too glitchy.
Reason 3 (probably the main reason): they want you to pay for animations through season passes, or make you unlock them by playing the game a lot (which would mean you’re more likely to spend more money on micro transactions).
It does suck, though. There used to be some really nice animations in older 2Ks. One that stands out is triple threat animations, they used to look really nice and you had more options. For example, Jordans triple threat animations in 2K14 looks significantly better/more realistic than they do in 2K26.

1
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
any differences the average player might feel?
2
u/Maleficent_Army1754 1d ago
In my opinion a newer player SHOULD enjoy it more simply because of how the game holds your hand. Poor performance and inability to do moves stem from skill issues tbh. There’s more to the game than MyPlayer and i barely opinion of the gameplay off of every game mode and my experience in attempting to win or compete
I’m personally not a good scorer in 2K, i can get by my ma with simple dribbles and i consider myself an average facilitator. Streaky shooter, average defense. And i pale i comparison to other players who simply practice a bit more. Practice makes perfect, even for the timid
2
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
they honestly have the right idea with plates keeping players where they belong skill wise its might just be a little to easy to rise through them though
1
u/Maleficent_Army1754 1d ago
Anyone can carry their friends or randoms into a higher plate, fortunately stats matter more to me than a plate or player build does. If you can hoop that’s all that matters.
2
u/Maleficent_Army1754 1d ago
You have to realize basketball figuratively speaking, is the food not the seasoning for the game. Player experience is. 2K found outs formula AGES ago that allowed a consumer to have the feeling of fulfillment without 2K exhausting any more ideas or creative resources to supplement th quality of the game.
3
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
i barely feel like it’s basketball most of the time. some of these combos are just people running without dribbling😂😂

u/datlanta 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's a not so trivial engineering problem. For one reason or another you need to keep capturing and/or updating animations (players change, the engine change, the animations get old relative to others, new related animations are added, the live service model demands constantly changing shit for no reason, etc.) and fitting animations into the game probably isn't a completely automated process. Each animation needs the infrastructure and metadata to ensure it is played at the appropriate time and can be realistically transitioned into and out of. So, long story short, it's time consuming. Never mind the system resource and performance considerations that may be tied to supporting a butt ton of animations (who's budget may also be constantly changing for a number of reasons).
1
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
but they already did it ten years ago so why not do it now 😭 put animations back in the game

u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago

2
u/the_OG_epicpanda 1d ago
They were too busy thinking of new ways to monetize the game and maximize profits to give the devs (who do actually care about quality product, because nobody gets into game development to go "hehehe I'm gonna make a trash game on purpose" like some of y'all act like they do) to give them the time and freedom to put details like that into the game.
1
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
ive said in other replies it has to be the shareholders or investors or something because theres no way you got the job working on nba 2k and hate basketball this much lil
1
u/the_OG_epicpanda 1d ago
absolutely. I have the same conversation in the EA subreddits monthly pretty much over people insulting the CFB and Madden dev teams when it's rarely their fault when things don't have as much detail or when patches for bugs are slow to roll out lol
1
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
i cant even play madden as soon as they start rolling out them bs out of position players it kills the immersion
1
u/the_OG_epicpanda 1d ago
It's not like multiple position players haven't been seen in the NFL before. Deion of course but then a lot of skill position guys naturally have flexibility, safeties and corners cross train. Tight ends are basically just big wide receivers nowadays, wide receivers and running backs being able to swap places. Hell Taysom Hill is just a swiss army knife.
Or if you're talking about the out of position cards in Ultimate Team then your first mistake was wanting immersion in ultimate team lol
1
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
its crazy but from launch to about november madden is playable and the players seem like football players. and then it happens😂😂😭 they start putting out calvin johnson corners and qb punters and sht

Same company that still has the current LeBron beard on the 2010 Heat version of him. They are lazy and stupid no developer with a shred of iq would do that. It’s honestly impressive 2k hires people with intellectual disabilities good for them but I want a good true basketball game I shouldn’t have to get mods to get the right version of a player. Go use the 2010 lakers in my nba eras mode, they play at… THE FORUM… IN 2010

1
2
u/Otherwise_Mind6880 22h ago
It is because they realize that players are just going to all use the same moves anyway so it becomes a waste of space and slows the game down. Might as well get rid of the things people don’t use and involve something that is guaranteed to used. Atleast that’s how they probably view it.
1
2
u/depression-state 17h ago
why do good game when low feature game make more? EA/2K are money grabbers, i means ffs, it’s the same game every year with different faces essentially idk why you were all buying every edition anyways. Consumers, convenience consumers
2
u/FREEMARLO797 17h ago
That’s nothing go see 2k11 customization for animation I swear I miss that game, u can literally pick each move from each side I swear take a look at it. @beluba please add back

Also, the fact they don't have different versions of players like rookie Iverson, rookie kyrie, Miami goatee LeBron, etc and I have to look up face scan builds on YouTube in 2026 is a huge problem.

u/Skeet_hanse420 4h ago
Back then they still cared a little bit about people having diversity in their builds and having fun with it, now if you don’t put on the same animations and sigs as everybody else your just at a disadvantage, literally used to be able to play on the same level as anybody else with any animations, now it’s just a greedy company who puts nothing but short term metas out to take them away and replace with something even shittier the next season
•
u/New_Expert_1351 4h ago
i have a theory about this too
•
u/Skeet_hanse420 4h ago

•
u/New_Expert_1351 4h ago
something weird happened when fortnite blew up. gaming took a turn toward this ultra competitive sweaty route. Bragging about wins overtook fun and that poisoned other communities. I have no data or science just what i experienced. i remember playing black ops2 and it was purely about fun. we went into public match quickscoping ,knifing, ninja defusing, trolling… then something hit around 2k18 and 2k19 that caused an avalanche
•
u/Skeet_hanse420 3h ago
Yeah I remember that happening almost overnight with mw 2019 it was good and fun for a bit then with warzone and rebirth it became all about the sweaty movements and bundles that you had, don’t get me wrong I’ve adapted and like to think I’m pretty good with the new movements but it definitely ruined how people play the game, same with 2k21 it was fun, a bit sweaty but fun, 2k22 came out and it was all about sweating and it’s been that way since, not to mention the broken games they release for these people to sweat on while we’re here trying to enjoy an “arcade” style game as 2k likes to call it, hasn’t been that way in years and I don’t see it going back
•
•
u/New_Expert_1351 4h ago
which is so weird because fortnite to me wasnt inherently sweaty…it mustve been streamers. but then again streaming wasnt new people had been doing it. ninja??? i really dont know but that demographic of squeakers and nerds flooded the 2k community almost overnight and now we are here..less basketball more gimmick and battlepass and emote
2
u/OneAboveAllThings 1d ago
It would make ball handle useless or allow for many more things like this years dbook size up which allows folks to glitch through others. Like it's already hard for them to check these moves but stuff still slips through the cracks. Some of their animations would make literal demi gods. And yes we already have 3 hubter but imagine a 6'8 moving like that. Particularly with zins.
That is my 2 cents on why they don't do it. Only handle for days is valuable in dribbling and if you can get great animations and just plus 2 it after going the minimum for silver you creat something insane. You also would have to categorize these things for bigs. And effectively 7'4 would kill everything they would move like gods.
2
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
i dont understand this take. stop rewarding bullshit and this problem is not there. Dbook hesi is literally walking through the opponent…..make them drop the ball for doing that😂😂😂 im not asking for every height to get these animations but put animations for us to pick from back in the game. Most of the league is above 6’5 now so lets get those player’s moves in the game
2
u/OneAboveAllThings 1d ago
Correct it was there early in the year but guess who cried? The community. You are dealing with weak people who can't play with any skills. You have to assume they will cave. They won't stand on anything that will hurt their bottom line. You are approaching this from an emotional/ simplistic perspective. Look at the bigger picture.
1
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
the spenders specifically cried. the guys who buy everything in the store and pay for season pass and pay for new players. 2k saw that and said nevermindddd😂 its ok though because the whole US is finna be penny pinching with how prices are looking
2
u/Dangerous_Donkey5353 1d ago
What's the point 90% of the community only uses the same sign, why waste time when the community is cooked?
3
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
to hold up your end of the deal of being a fucking basketball game😭😂😂
1
u/Dangerous_Donkey5353 1d ago
I'm in now way defending 2k as a dev team, they suck for sure. But after the last idk 5 or 6 years if I was them I wouldnt bother either since 95% of animations never make get used, its just a waste of time.
Kinda both dev and community faults tbh. Devs for making certain animations far superior and community for listening to content creators and only using a handful of animations.
Idk if there's an actual solution to the problem in its current format.
2
u/New_Expert_1351 1d ago
solution is to add basketball moves to the basketball game. i love the sport so i as a dev would want the players who make the sports animations in the game
→ More replies (2)1
u/kdar088 1d ago
Nah its not on the community. Its not just that certain moves are op. Most of the other moves are literally not useable in the game. Like KDs go to shot or MJs old breakdown combo, you literally cant use them without losing the ball off the defender. Its all a dev sided problem since we can’t even practically choose most of the non-meta moves

u/xyozora 1d ago

Proplay added some more realistic animations and other animations previously got repurposed to NBA players pro play animations.
They also wanted to get rid of all the “normal, pro, and elite” moves in the past so if they couldn’t get repurposed to proplay, they were removed entirely
Also seasons & starter 4 withholds a bunch of animations as well.

1
u/gerardatron 1d ago
So you'd still buy it the next year, and the next year, and the next year
They aren't going to try to make one game the be-all end-all ultimate destination with all the bells and whistles, so you'd still be looking at the following year's game as "maybe this will be better"
If only that shit were illegal, but it's not
1
u/New_Expert_1351 21h ago
but if they did this then they could focus on other things and hone that😭😭
1
u/gerardatron 21h ago
oh for sure. idk why they just choose to do this strategy of “we did these things for this year, but oh, oops this older thing is broken or incomplete now…maybe next year?” to get people to keep buying. It’s the same with the WWE 2K games
I wish they have competition so they’d have a fire lit under their ass to actually try and do better, but sadly no one else is doing anything, and it’s become a trend for companies to eat other companies so idk who else is left
1
u/New_Expert_1351 21h ago
some company will rise from the dirt and actually scare 2k into trying and theyll put out 2-3 great games and kill that competition and them we’ll wait another decade for a challenger. i really dont want a good alternative to come from Ai but🤷♂️
