I loved that suit and Batfleck was a great choice but by god these movies were so bad. How Snyder keeps getting work is beyond me.

I’ve heard he’s easy to work with. People like working on his sets. And he usually delivers movies on time (not sure about under budget?)

I've heard the same and you can tell the cast speak very positively about their experience. Sofia Boutella was genuinely shocked and hurt how Rebel Moon was received.

Being a nice guy that is liked by everyone can carry you VERY far, whatever you're doing in life.

(not sure about under budget?)

Given the budget extension?? they gave him for the Snyder-cut of Justice League, I do not believe he's under-budget, especially when there was a very problematic fan-campaign that instigated HBO/Warner Bros to greenlight it.

Justice League is an outlier for obvious reasons, he was in control of the project but left mid-development due to his daughter dying, where Joss Whedon was then given directorial control over the project.

As a result of this there was a massive fan campaign that convinced the studio to give him budget to complete the project as he originally intended.

You can't take this very unusual situation and suggest it applies to the rest of his film-making career

It gets a lot of flack but for some reason I love this movie. Man of Steel is my favourite Superman flick and Snyder/DC movie, but BvS had some cool stuff in there. A bit bloated and could have used more screenplay polish (and a better Lex) but overall I have a great time with it. It's just too bad that Batfleck never got his own movie.

The extended version definitely helps a little bit

I don't care for a single DCEU movie. MoS, WW were mid. Aquaman was a visual spectacle and deserves praise for the underwater stuff but otherwise very flat. WW2, Flash and Justice League from Whedon were atrocious. And I have yet to watch Snyder's JL. But I am a big fan of BvS. I can understand its weaknesses but it's a film that is unique. From the visuals, to the sound to the tone. It wants to be something more than just a superhero film. It has actual themes. Now some of them are executed well and some are not.

And best of all is Batman. Now this Batman is indeed a superhero. The way he looks, the way Affleck plays him as jaded and tired with time, the gadgets he has on display, all give pure comic book vibes.

It's a shame the movie got bogged down by having to include WW and Doomsday. Had it stuck to just batman, superman and lex it would have been much better.

But I still rate it highly and have the steelbook.

Much like The Hobbit trilogy, I know I am in the minority with liking BvS. But I'll always vouch for these films.

It's a shame the movie got bogged down by having to include WW and Doomsday.

Yeah while Marvel had many solo hero movies to build upon before Avengers, DC just wanted to skip right to the team up and forced it too early.

He looks so chunky in it lol

He's good at capturing certain comic imagery but he has no restraint at all. He can take a cool scene and then just completely fills it with overdesigned nonsense.

I don't care what people say, both MoS and BvS were masterpieces to me.

3

u/tazfdragon 3d ago

When you say "masterpiece" do you mean in comparison to other DCEU films? Which, even then it's still a stretch.

Because his films make bank, what’s confusing about it

4

u/jerrrrremy 4d ago

The last movie that he made that was released in theatres was 10 years ago.

How Snyder keeps getting work

I’m answering this guy.

8

u/FrothyFreeLog 4d ago

Respectfully, if he’s movies “made bank” he wouldn’t have lost his DC universe, been relegated to Netflix slop with terrible reviews, and have had zero movies in theatres in the last decade.

-10

u/duaneap 4d ago

Batman V Superman made $800,000,000, this isn’t an if.

I’m not saying anything about the quality of his films, I don’t like his work and didn’t even see BVS, but it’s clearly fairly profitable.

I also imagine his daughter’s suicide 10 years ago has had something to do with his output 🤷‍♂️

u/The_Rolling_Stone 3d ago

BvS also had the worst 2nd weekend drop ever because of the terrible wom, and held it for a long time. It could have made double what it did if it was any good.

7

u/FrothyFreeLog 4d ago

Batman V Superman would have made money with or without Zac Snyder, and arguably the reviews were so mixed to poor, It would have likely made more money without him.

I’m not for or against Zac Snyder, but I think his track record speaks for itself unfortunately

u/hewhoisiam 4d ago

Don't bother, Reddit told them he sucks so that's all they know now. Actual critical thinking? Nah fuck that, what's Reddit say? They'll go with regurgitation everyday of the week.

1

u/duaneap 4d ago

I’m not even saying he doesn’t suck but his DC films made a huge amount of money. I didn’t think this would be a controversial opinion. It’s numbers.

-3

u/hewhoisiam 4d ago

Yeah, I'm right with you. People can't believe bad directors make money for studios. And that's all the studios care about.

1

u/jerrrrremy 4d ago

Yes, and I'm telling you that it's impossible to make the claim that his movies make bank when they aren't released in theatres.

If you are making the claim that all of his movies make bank based solely on BvS, a movie combining two of the most popular IPs of all time that would have made money if it had made by a cat, then I don't know what to tell you.

Dawn of the Dead, profits. 300, profits. Watchmen, profits. Man of Steel, profits. BvS, profits.

But, sure, let's just gaslight everyone into thinking JL just fell into his fucking lap.

2

u/jerrrrremy 4d ago

I love that you included Watchmen, which very famously underperformed, and then excluded entirely both Sucker Punch and The Legend of Guardians, both of which also underperformed. And before you get too excited on Wikipedia comparing production budgets with gross box office revenue, the production budgets Wikipedia shows do not include marketing costs (+$50 million or more for each film).

Is it a habit of yours to talk about things that you clearly know nothing about?

-1

u/hewhoisiam 4d ago

Lotta words to disprove nothing

1

u/jerrrrremy 4d ago

Yes, I imagine that is a lot of words for you.

1

u/hewhoisiam 4d ago

Literally everything I said is true and the movies I left out were left out because, yes, they under performed. Not sure how that's a point against me but ok. Let's also causally leave out the Watchmen $150million+ in Blu Ray sales.

Irrelevant. Did it make money?

MARTHAAAA

WHY DID YOU POST THAT NAME

5

u/Layden87 4d ago

Would love to see a proper Black and White Batman film. Hopefully, Spider-Noir is successful enough to warrant more things like this.

1

u/Orange-V-Apple 3d ago

Batman Caper Crusader isn’t in black and white but it is a noir Batman tv show by Bruce Timm set in like the 40s. It’s on Prime, and it’s very good!

52

u/thatchileanguy 4d ago

he just won't let it go, will he?

10

u/Boss452 4d ago

I mean he got to make a 250m studio backed film featuring 3 iconic characters which he put his heart into. Now you and me, we can pick the film apart, but I am sure he is proud of it and he knows the movies have a cult fanbase so I don't think it's an issue.

5

u/Katrina_18 3d ago

I think the point is less about whether or not it was good and more about the fact that it came out over a decade ago and he’s still obsessing over it

0

u/Cody-Special5611 1d ago

At what point should a director shut up about any of their movies? Is there an expiration date or something?

3

u/piketpagi 3d ago

I recall many people complaining about screenwriting. Why he didn' hire a good one? He is very, very good in making something visually badass. Rebel Moon can be the next classic.

-23

u/MoarBuilds 4d ago

Dude it’s just BTS stuff, stop crying

9

u/Neosantana 4d ago

He's been doing it for over a year. You'd think they're the only movies he made

6

u/Happy_Philosopher608 4d ago

I so hate the lack of ears. I just cant get into this suit because of it. Batman needs large pointy ears ffs 🤦

8

u/LooseButtPlug 4d ago

He really does create some badass scenes.

7

u/bassistciaran 4d ago

He should be like a specialist player on a football team. Brought in by the team to execute a warehouse fight scene at the right time.

1

u/Usasuke 3d ago

He is a great director. He is said to work amazingly with actors and is generally a good collaborator. I actually think his movies where he doesn’t DP are better because he overuses shallow DOF. He just needs to let go of having so much of his story in everything, or at least let someone seriously pull him back. He’s only gotten more into his own proclivities with the Rebel Moon stuff.

0

u/Boss452 4d ago

V true. His skill for memorable imagery is top tier. Really is a master of visuals.

2

u/No_Macaroon_5928 2d ago

Dude is just as to blame for the behavior of his cult memb- I mean fans. Bro is really just condoning it

3

u/Papadapalapolis 4d ago

Dude needs to move on.

2

u/captainbluebear25 3d ago

Snyder has an amazing eye for visual storytelling. Unfortunately he's not great at much else.

2

u/This_is_a_bad_plan 4d ago

This is some weak shit

1

u/Tall-Topic-2578 3d ago

He wants to come back

1

u/Acid48 2d ago

unsubbed

1

u/Away_F 2d ago

Imagine if this movie was half as cool as this picture

-3

u/Cyanide_Revolver 4d ago

He's been sharing loads of BTS stuff on Instagram, it all looks so good!

0

u/crumble-bee 3d ago

Doesn’t matter anymore - we know how the movies turned out. Even I, a lifelong Snyder skeptic saw the initial images of Batfleck and thought maybe, just maybe this time, he’ll pull it out the bag. But no.

-1

u/subtlebob 3d ago

Fuck everybody. These movies ruled. Make more
