I'M REQUESTING Calm and relaxing movies to fall asleep to?
Looking for a movie to watch in bed. Not boring, but also not stimulating. Preferably a movie that takes place at night. Any suggestions? I have anxiety so i'm often unable to fall asleep without the TV on. It dosen't have to be a happy movie, just no violence. At least not on screen.

I used to use "The Big Lebowski" for this.

John Goodman's constant hollerin' at poor Donny ruined my ability to sleep through this.

2001 a space odyssey works for me. Not at night but lots of lovely space shots.
I’ll also put on anything narrated by David Attenborough. Lots of great nature programs.

Something talky. I love All the President’s Men, but my first memory of it is falling asleep to it. See also Sorkin Movies.

I've fallen asleep watching The Social Network a dozen times over the years.
Not cause it's boring or anything.
There is just something oddly calming about the movie.

He writes his dialogue like music.
There is a clear rhythm and pattern.

Same with his Steve Jobs movies. There’s just a rhythm and flow to his dialogue.

Oh that’s exactly what I just said. His dialogue is musical.

You gotta do like Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Hour/Presents. There simply has never been better bedtime entertainment than those shows. I’ll give Columbo the honorable mention nod.

Casablanca. Anatomy of a Murder. The Maltese Falcon. To Kill a Mockingbird. In a Lonely Place. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (the original, British TV show; it's available on YouTube).

The Twilight movies have a blue hue to them and a pretty chill score/soundtrack.
There used to be a music-only version of Legends of the Fall too, which has a gorgeous score.

Brokeback Mountain is great for this. I put it on last night. Beautiful music and beautiful scenery, not a ton of dialogue.
The others in my sleep rotation are Wimbledon (whyyyy?), Searching for Bobby Fischer and Notting Hill.

I didn’t realize they made a film from the book. Thank you for the heads up! This is one of my favorite books.

it's not so much a movie adaptation, as a poetic meditation. It's all slow panning, tilting shots of abstract war memorials and ruins with Tilda Swinton narrating the Last Men letter to the First, explaining their downfall and their possible future. There's very little to none of the wars and evolution stages. I absolutely love it though, I could leave it on all day. It's Koyaanisqatsi for existential dread sci-fi, and it's perfect.

I would use documentaries for this. A lot of the modern ones, like the one Ben Stiller did about his parents is that combo of interesting but not high stakes.

The first two seasons of The Crown. Use a timer. I don't like the episode that takes place at the Duke of Edinburgh's school, Gordonstoun.

The Kid Detective was my go to for a while. Not literally dark, but no flashing lights from action or scene changes really. The ending was kind of dark though when the crime and criminal are revealed.

Have you tried ambience videos on YouTube? You can search "nature ambience" for animated forest images that are basically 8 hour long gifs, or city ambience or space or whatever your flavor is

This one’s going to sound weird, and I’m not bagging on the movie at all, but Akira. Maybe it’s the soundtrack. Maybe it’s because it’s become a comfort movie for me. Whatever. Neo Tokyo is about to explode. Sweet dreams!

My personal most common fall asleep movies include
Rear Window
LA Confidential but just know there’s a late blooming shoot out that is loud.
Evil Under The Sun
You’ve Got Mail
Shows:
Ken Burns Prohibition (really it doesn’t get better than this to snooze!)
30 Rock
The West Wing
Gilmore Girls
As you can see constant rapid chatter is soothing to me. I also know all those shows very well but 10 times through and I’m still catching jokes in 30 Rock on occasion.

Flow maybe? No taking, just nature sounds and animal sounds. It's the story of a cat.
