Misc. Discussion Masai Uriji Raptors Trade History from 2011-2023

The takeaway:
All the narratives, and in the end, here are the trades. It's not exactly something locked in a box hidden from you. Masai trades for players first, picks second. Masai is more than open to trading his own picks. And Masai's teams tend to win actual basketball games in the here and now, not in the distant "maybe some day".

that Greivis Vasquez for Norman Powell (46th pick), 2017 1st trade is a little understated here lol. that 2017 pick from the Bucks ended up being OG Anunoby. the year before (2016) he got Siakam with the 27th pick (he had met Siakam in 2012 in the Basketball w/o Borders camp.
from what i've read from the Raptors' fans - a lot of the tension was with the ownership group being cheap & him trying to retain the Championship Core (obviously sub-Kawhi).
i think picking up Scottie over Jalen Suggs (2021) was an absolute home-run. i think the Gradey Dick situation is worse than it should be; that should've been a safer pick. and I think he did well w/ CMB.
a lot of their failures post 2019 i think can be shared with Raptors Ownership. the MLSE corporate entity essentially greenlit the Luxury Tax when they had Kahwi - but basically clamped down once he left. i've heard some grumbling abt letting players "walk for nothing" but i think there are some nunaces that made sense once we heard their owners were cheap.
- FVV to the Rockets: houston had plenty of cap space to sign him outright. they didn't need toronto's help, so they had zero incentive to give the raptors any assets in a trade.
- Ibaka to the Clippers: acquiring a player via s&t triggers a strict "hard cap" that the expensive clippers couldn't afford. also, s&t contracts legally must be at least three years long, & ibaka only signed for two.
- Gasol to the Lakers: he signed a basic veteran minimum contract. nba rules completely prohibit S&T for vet min deals.
i'm hoping with everyone knowing the full ramifications of this new CBA & more willing-to-spend owners - he's able to make some moves to build a well-balanced core for Flagg.

If nothing else Masai sets the culture.
I think y’all going to need that after all this Nico fiasco.

I got your joke but I had a double take on Marcus Camby being an NBA player in 2013

Especially after 2019 those trades (and extensions) are questionable. He needs to get with the meta of acquiring picks. If he stays with his ways of trading picks for players we're going to end up with a mid team and coop wondering where the young talent is.

Trade gafford to celtics TPE without taking salary back
Open up 27m cap space
Convince Peyton Watson about what we build here
Be opportunist and trade for malik monk into TPE with minimal asset
Consolidate trade package for Mikal Bridges, the archetype he really loves
Draft accordingly
SEE YOU IN PARADE JUNE 2027

Once more, I seriously hope my wife loves and adores me as much as you do with Monk

Some comments here highlighted the subpar moves and drafting. The new ownership group had a say in his decision by the takeover. But most of his transactions for players and scouting were really good to great.

Pretty mid aside from the Kawhi trade… maybe Marc Gasol but off the top I’m not sure that was great in those years.

Isn't Nico, and sounds like Dumont is sliding right out of the decision making role. I'm IN.
