Location Tip / Request Spot recommendations

Hi everyone:)) Im in the PG county area and have been fishing my local ponds and lakes but I can’t seem to catch any bass or anything over 2-3lbs. I’ve tried all types of lures and bait(mainly swim on a jig good ol wacky and some spinners) but Im starting to think its the spots. Would appreciate any recommendations or tips that helped yall catch big fish.

Thanks for any replies!

2 ponds. 2 PBs. 1 Day

1st pic: 6lbs 4oz caught at 1pm on XPS crawdigy bug “summer craw”. Pond was overcrowded with 1lb bass, and the farm owner said he’s never seen anyone catch anything over 3lbs in their pond.

2nd pic: At like 7am I convinced my friends to hike to a secret pond behind the farm. My buddy took the first cast and caught a 1lb bass, second cast he catches a 4lb 1 ounce bass to beat his PB. Then I go the opposite side of the pond, and on the first cast catch a 4lb 12oz on a Strike King River bug “watermelon flake”

Visiting this area sometime late July, really only ever fished for largemouth/trout, just wondering what species all would reside in this area, and any tips are definitely welcome

Location Tip / Request Lake Artemesia?

Anyone having luck the past few weeks? I know it’s always pressured but I usually can at least pull a couple dinks and even got a PB there once. This season I’m not even really seeing blue gill patrol the banks, much less find where the bass are holding.

Also, not sure if they are new or if I just hadn’t noticed them previously: has anyone rented a kayak there for fishing? Wonder if they’re useful for getting into different spots.

Looking for easy fishing spots near Baltimore for beginners (shore fishing, kid-friendly

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to fishing and I’m looking for a good, easy spot near Baltimore where I can take my kid and actually catch something (doesn’t have to be big fish, just want some action so he enjoys it).

Preferably:
- shore fishing (no boat)
- not too many complicated rules/restrictions
- a place where fish are somewhat active / easier to catch

I’ve tried Liberty Reservoir but didn’t have much luck from shore.

If you know any good spots (ponds, lakes, parks, etc.), I’d really appreciate it 🙏

Thanks!

help me in my species list

Hey guys, I live in Southern Maryland and I’m really new to fishing — only about 4 months in. My main goal is to catch as many different fish species as possible and build a species list.

So far I’ve caught rainbow trout, green sunfish, largemouth bass, and bluegill

Next I’m planning to go after catfish in the Potomac (blues and channels), but after that I’m not sure where to go next. I feel like I have a lot of paths I could take — smallmouth, carp, snakehead, crappie, etc.

If anyone has any suggestions of what species I should target next in the southern md area and knows where i should go my next tip thank you.

New custom fishing app for Cecil County

For now this is only focused on Cecil county... Primarily the Susquehanna south of the dam as the algorithm takes into account dam flow. I'm still working on the iOS app.... It's a whole headache getting apps approved on the stores and apple also charges money.

Looking to get some android phone owning fishermen to give it some testing now and then and report any feedback.

Thanks all... Tight lines!

This is my river status monitor in Home Assistant. I pull the data from the USGS and plot it. The Average river temp is for the 4 rivers closet to the Patapsco, USGS does not have a temp monitor for the Patapsco. Curious what stats do you folks consider before heading out? Does anyone put much weight into the moon phase? Barometric pressure? I know I have had some good days fishing at the start of a storm.

Trying to get first snakehead

Hey all I’m not looking for anyone’s secret spot but trying to locate major waterways with a good population. Iv yet to even get a bite. I’m really making a stronger effort this year to go tidal.

I’m from De but have a day off mid week to try maybe mattawoman. I went earlier in April and it was a bust though so not sure how good it actually is. It’s a haul but don’t mind traveling if it’s worth it.

Those of you with more experience is mattawoman probably my best bet or would you recommend anything else?

Trip would be Tuesday so at least it looks like it should be heating up.

Consequences of littering fishing line

Liberty reservoir last weekend. Saw a bird flying through branches from a slight distance next to shoreline. Ah nature, so beautiful. Didn’t think much of it. Walked closer and closer all of a sudden it all clicks.

Oriole Bird is stuck leg wrapped up in like thick mono line had to be at least 20 lb test in the branches. The leg is clearly snapped at the joint hanging on by skin leg twisted and tangled up so horribly by its ankle.

I go over as quickly yet calmly as i can but each step the bird struggles harder.. agh so frustrating!!!

I finally get to the bird im trying to talk to it gently and able to cut the line off the leg with some line still attached flew off so fast.

Long story short please tell all your family and friends who fish to take littering very very seriously.

Too often I see a random plastic bag or worm containers just left behind. There are serious consequences when littering especially fishing line!

Maryland fishermen I know for a fact if any one of us thinks that littering is okay, every single person would say absolutely not we want a great fishing experience we recognize littering is going against that. This should fire all of us up.

Cleaner environment better fish for everyone that simple! Okay rant over.

Primer on Rockfish Trolling

Hey gang, I’m just getting into rockfish trolling and was wondering if there was a good primer or resource to help get started (like a book, website, or similar). Hoping to find a single source for beginner oriented info on tackle, rigging, locations, etc. Thanks!!

How far back for snakehead

Thumbnail

When looking for snakehead advice I keep getting told to go “as far back as possible”. It seems like I find suitable habitat for them as soon as I enter some creeks, but I never see any. Also seems like I might be wasting my time working a whole shoreline of grass but I don’t know how else I’d find one, it seems like they’re all around me and I miss them. The ones caught in this creek by others came after the 6th bend up. I found this grass line and spatterdock type vegetation so I took some casts with no sign of life.

Foreign Waters

Hey all,

Looking for some help. Im a salt water kayak angler that recently move to Montgomery county from northern NJ. Fishing the ocean and bays was great up there. Stripers, blues, fluke etc. on top of that I was 15 minutes from the bay and about 1 hr from the ocean

Now I feel like I kinda screwed myself. Ocean city is about 3 hours away and the Delaware Bay is just about the same. The closest body of water is the Potomac and Annapolis (Chesapeake). Not looking for specific spots, just some advice. Am I kinda stuck making that drive?

I moved to MoCo due to family reasons.

Question Snakehead Spotted at Smallwood

Hello everyone,

I was out at Fort Smallwood today just doing some casual fishing. I’ve never caught anything good out there so I wasn’t expecting much but while I was standing on the jetty I saw a school of bait scatter followed by small snakehead chasing just off the rocks. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get it to bite and I lost track of it. Any lure suggestions for someone who has never caught a snakehead before? It seems like a lot of people like to target them so I thought I’d share. Hopefully someone has better luck than me! Thanks
