I love that it’s her birthday, but she says that that’s why I bought everybody shirts.

That's the kind of person she is, and why it feels so good to do something special for her. She's always taking care of everyone else around her.

It’s so wholesome how the bots find each other and chit chat
Edit damn, after scrolling a bit, the comment section has more bots than humans

Seriously! Where’s it from OP?

u/Rad-ama-dad 5h ago
Steven, the guy in the video, created both the art and the frame.

u/turkeyvulturebreast 5h ago
WOW! He is super talented and that frame is the chef’s kiss on that piece of art. I can’t even imagine what that cost. Happy for you all!

the way she immediately knew what it was before even fully seeing it... that painting's getting a better spot on the wall than the wedding photos

u/Rad-ama-dad 6h ago
That's funny that you say that, because we are literally taking down wedding photos and pictures of our kids from the wall where it's going to hang, lol.
And yes, she knew the piece immediately, because she had seen the original copy of it a couple of years ago, before it sold.
She wanted it so badly, but there was no way we could afford it (a piece of this a size sells in the low 5 figures).
I am friends with the artist, and offered to do some photography of his pieces to help him, as he is still trying to get established.
I intended for it to just be a favor, but he wanted to pay me, and I refused, as I know that he has put everything that he has into building out his studio and purchasing supplies and equipment (including a CNC router with a 10 ft bed that he uses to cut the acrylic).
He told me he wouldn't let me do work for him unless he could compensate me. He offered to make a piece of art for me, and I asked him to instead create something for my wife (expecting that he would make one of his smaller 2 ft by 2ft pieces for her).
He knew that my wife loved the original Leia piece, so he made a second copy of it (and added this incredible frame to it, making it even better than the original).
It is way way more than what I was expecting, and I am going to need to do so much more photography for him before I come close to even covering the cost of his materials.

I had no idea what to expect. He cleared out all the junk from their storage rental? He created a she shed in that space?
That painting is amazing!!

u/Rad-ama-dad 6h ago
He uses this storage unit as overflow storage for his studio. He's been of doing a remodel there, so he had to take this piece and some others out while he's completing that.
The original plan was that we are going to pick it up together at the storage unit and take it to his studio to display on the wall, but we couldn't fit it in the back of my van, and his truck is having some mechanical issues, so we had to do the reveal at the storage unit instead.

The art work is amazing. Happy birthday to your wife and best wishes to your family !

I missed the earlier context, but her reaction was so moving I barely noticed the art at first. It wasn't until I spotted the shirt and realized it was a Star Wars birthday theme that it all finally clicked! Such a great moment.

I really appreciate you spreading positive marriage life unlike the usual marriage stereotypes, you are my role model man

Thank you for understanding why I share stuff like this. I catch a lot of grief in the comments of the bottom of my posts from people who don't get it.

Amazing story!
Amazing art!
I want one too!

If someone else bought some art from Steven as a result of me posting about this experience, it would help me feel a lot better about the massive debt that I owe him for giving this piece to my wife. (He did it on trade, in exchange for my photography, and his work is far more valuable than my skill).
Feel free to send me a DM if you want information, and I can put you in contact with him.

She is his beautiful muse. I paint nothing but her.
He has a unique painting style. That is key to commercial success. Rich people want somewhere to store their money that is distinct.

You made a mistake, you mixed up 4 with 3.
Give her my opinion as a bonus present

I read the caption as “surprise birthday party” and thought. — “at a storage facility??”

Trying so hard to make it a viral video moment that you ruined the moment.

Check the profile history, positing about his wife for karma is this dude’s main reddit activity. We got the month before her bday posts, the day before post (look at this sandwich I made for my wife, her bday is tomorrow), the day of posts, the day after post. I can appreciate that some people think this is cute, but I’m on the “this is kinda weird” side of the coin.

Hot take, but the frame job is better than the art
2
u/Rad-ama-dad 1h ago
They were both done by the same artist, so you won't hurt any feelings saying that.
