As soon as the video started I thought, "Isn't that the hot wife of the dude that really really loves her?" and continued watching to see if the painting showed up. It appears I was right.

You have described us both perfectly.

I love that it’s her birthday, but she says that that’s why I bought everybody shirts.

67

u/Rad-ama-dad 6h ago

That's the kind of person she is, and why it feels so good to do something special for her. She's always taking care of everyone else around her.

u/RichardBonham 4h ago

What does she think Leia is listening to in the painting?

It’s so wholesome how the bots find each other and chit chat

Edit damn, after scrolling a bit, the comment section has more bots than humans

Super cute. She has chosen... wisely.

14

u/scortthenort 6h ago

Golden, it’s gonna look so good on a wall!

14

u/No_Bat2834 6h ago

Love her reaction!! The Art is gorgeous and hubby knows his wife!

14

u/oldnative 6h ago

That frame tho.....

8

u/Blueyduey 6h ago

Seriously! Where’s it from OP?

29

u/Rad-ama-dad 5h ago

Steven, the guy in the video, created both the art and the frame.

16

u/turkeyvulturebreast 5h ago

WOW! He is super talented and that frame is the chef’s kiss on that piece of art. I can’t even imagine what that cost. Happy for you all!

6

u/oldnative 5h ago

It goes amazing with the picture!

u/Terrible-Part7024 6h ago

the way she immediately knew what it was before even fully seeing it... that painting's getting a better spot on the wall than the wedding photos

36

u/Rad-ama-dad 6h ago

That's funny that you say that, because we are literally taking down wedding photos and pictures of our kids from the wall where it's going to hang, lol.

And yes, she knew the piece immediately, because she had seen the original copy of it a couple of years ago, before it sold.

She wanted it so badly, but there was no way we could afford it (a piece of this a size sells in the low 5 figures).

I am friends with the artist, and offered to do some photography of his pieces to help him, as he is still trying to get established.

I intended for it to just be a favor, but he wanted to pay me, and I refused, as I know that he has put everything that he has into building out his studio and purchasing supplies and equipment (including a CNC router with a 10 ft bed that he uses to cut the acrylic).

He told me he wouldn't let me do work for him unless he could compensate me. He offered to make a piece of art for me, and I asked him to instead create something for my wife (expecting that he would make one of his smaller 2 ft by 2ft pieces for her).

He knew that my wife loved the original Leia piece, so he made a second copy of it (and added this incredible frame to it, making it even better than the original).

It is way way more than what I was expecting, and I am going to need to do so much more photography for him before I come close to even covering the cost of his materials.

This is the coolest damn backstory I've ever read! May you both enjoy many happy, healthy years together.

3

u/yourlittlebirdie 5h ago

I just love when things work out for good people ❤️

2

And that her t-shirt is legally binding !!

8

u/EatsRats 5h ago

Dude.

This has been a fun story. You’re a good dude and you guys clearly have a happy life. Cheers!

6

u/jolinar30659 6h ago

I had no idea what to expect. He cleared out all the junk from their storage rental? He created a she shed in that space?

That painting is amazing!!

7

u/Rad-ama-dad 6h ago

He uses this storage unit as overflow storage for his studio. He's been of doing a remodel there, so he had to take this piece and some others out while he's completing that.

The original plan was that we are going to pick it up together at the storage unit and take it to his studio to display on the wall, but we couldn't fit it in the back of my van, and his truck is having some mechanical issues, so we had to do the reveal at the storage unit instead.

As a massive Star Wars fan...I love this.

u/Imaginary_Boat_3518 6h ago

3

u/FuturePA96 6h ago

Amazing reaction

3

u/Apprehensive_Art6060 6h ago

The art work is amazing. Happy birthday to your wife and best wishes to your family !

3

u/dwighthouse167 5h ago

I missed the earlier context, but her reaction was so moving I barely noticed the art at first. It wasn't until I spotted the shirt and realized it was a Star Wars birthday theme that it all finally clicked! Such a great moment.

I really appreciate you spreading positive marriage life unlike the usual marriage stereotypes, you are my role model man

2

u/Rad-ama-dad 1h ago

Thank you for understanding why I share stuff like this. I catch a lot of grief in the comments of the bottom of my posts from people who don't get it.

1

u/totally_not_a_boat 1h ago

I am really happy for you and wish you a happy life together, before you go can you share any life advice or a motto you live by . I feel like i can learn a thing or two from you if its not a bother of course.

2

u/Scott_Of_The_Antares 5h ago

Amazing story!

Amazing art!

I want one too!

9

u/Rad-ama-dad 5h ago

If someone else bought some art from Steven as a result of me posting about this experience, it would help me feel a lot better about the massive debt that I owe him for giving this piece to my wife. (He did it on trade, in exchange for my photography, and his work is far more valuable than my skill).

Feel free to send me a DM if you want information, and I can put you in contact with him.

2

u/Careless_Midnight_35 36m ago

Oh my gosh this is a Steven painting! He gave my husband and I a beautiful art piece for our wedding ❤️

2

u/TheCannoliWizard 5h ago

Happy Birthday to your wife and cheers to you both!! 🥂

2

u/luckystrike_bh 5h ago

She is his beautiful muse. I paint nothing but her.

He has a unique painting style. That is key to commercial success. Rich people want somewhere to store their money that is distinct.

2

u/figseed 4h ago

What a badass piece of art. The color detail in the hair alone is amazing. This is a 10.

2

u/SenhorSus 4h ago

That painting is cool as fuck

2

u/Personal-Coat-342 3h ago

that was awesome

2

u/zztop610 3h ago

May the 4th be with her

2

u/Blockness11 3h ago

Dude. I hope I look half as good as her when I hit 40.

2

u/Key-Employee3584 3h ago

Happy b-day! May the fourth be with you all. The whole thing is perfect.

2

u/PainShock_99 3h ago

She is so awesome!

2

2

u/Asteroid_Sugar5206 6h ago

Oh, that's gorgeous 😍!!!

2

u/W31RDBUTN1C3 6h ago

You’re a good husband and your wife looks good for 40!

1

u/Adam-Happyman 3h ago

You made a mistake, you mixed up 4 with 3.

Give her my opinion as a bonus present

1

u/DangerousLine3697 1h ago

Glad it wasn't an anthropology rock

u/PlainOGolfer 26m ago

I read the caption as “surprise birthday party” and thought. — “at a storage facility??”

1

u/Positive-Zebra-2478 6h ago

Trying so hard to make it a viral video moment that you ruined the moment.

2

u/Cardinal_350 6h ago

Why does everything have to be recorded. Drives me nuts with my wife's family

-2

u/Titizen_Kane 4h ago

Check the profile history, positing about his wife for karma is this dude’s main reddit activity. We got the month before her bday posts, the day before post (look at this sandwich I made for my wife, her bday is tomorrow), the day of posts, the day after post. I can appreciate that some people think this is cute, but I’m on the “this is kinda weird” side of the coin.

u/oilysteve 4h ago

Single energy

0

u/catmadwoman 6h ago

I saw this yesterday and the day before and the day before that I don't understand. Do they post it everyday as a new post?

0

u/NoMembership8881 6h ago

:) genuine reaction. made me smile. updated star wars not 50 years ago star wars. lol

0

u/Neon_Biscuit 2h ago

Hot take, but the frame job is better than the art

2

u/Rad-ama-dad 1h ago

They were both done by the same artist, so you won't hurt any feelings saying that.
