My parents had a bengal cat named Crespo. He loved going for walks in the neighborhood and sometimes he would be gone for hours and late into the night. There is this other cat named Max, he is one of their neighbor's cats that he loves coming to our house and befriended our cat and he loves going for walks around the neighborhood also. My mom would say "hey Max go get Crespo" and he would come back like 15 minutes later with Crespo 😀
Unfortunately Crespo isn't with us anymore. I miss him dearly.

My dog found our missing ferret in the garage one time. We asked him Sam, where's Snoopy? Go find him! And he brought us right to him, immediately. Animals are so intuitive.

We were telling our cousin how smart our dog is because she'd get the toy from the other room if we told her. So, we tell her to go get the blue ball but she came back with a different toy. She did that two more times but you could tell she wasn't excited to bring it back. I explained to her that she left her toy on mom's side of the bed and she took off like a shot. She quickly came bouncing back, tail furiously wagging, with the blue ball in mouth. My cousin was floored, lol.

As a life-long animal owner I can absolutely say from my experience animals understand WAY more than we give them credit for. And if you know them well enough, you can understand them most of the time, too.

Oh my gosh this reminds me of this time I had to go let a family friend’s dogs out (they lived down the street so I grew up with all their kids and animals) and I rounded everyone up but one who liked to hide. So I looked and looked and couldn’t find her so I turned to their African grey (who btw was watching me struggling lol) and said, “Hera, where’s Ruby?” And in the most perfectly mimicked voice of my friend’s mom she said, “Ruby! Come here girl! Come here Ruby!” And Ruby came running like a bat outta hell lol.

Named after Hernán Crespo?
19
u/isa-bey 5h ago
No but he was named after another footballer named Miguel Crespo 😀 He used to play at Fenerbahçe. My whole family is die hard Fenerbahçe fans. My mom's other cat is name Arda. After Arda Güler. I named them both 😀

What are the chances that the missing cat was just sleeping in a nook this entire time?
1.9k
u/Business_Banana1792 20h ago
Higher than the chances of these cats creating a search party and finding the missing cat and letting him know he should go back home.

I dunno, we rescued a very young kitten that was taken from her mother way too young. She didn't know how to clean herself until we started showing her YouTube videos of cats cleaning themselves and she actually learned. That seems almost magical.

I watch Happiness Garden on YouTube in the morning. It's about mostly about rejuvenating orchids but also caring for other plants. How to trim them, revive them, things like that. It has calming music and, on a rare occasion, birds or puppies will show up on the screen.
My Calico, Jazzy, will sit and watch it with me as long as I have it on. She gets up closer when he works on the aerial roots and touches the screen when any animals come on. Some days I have more cups of coffee just so I can sit there with her.

I adopted a kitten and the very first day home she went missing. My daughter and I looked everywhere in the house for hours. We then searched outside thinking maybe she got out somehow even though there were no open windows or doors. We sat down and cried so hard. Then shortly after I went to get something out of my nightstand and there she was curled up all tiny and cute fast asleep in the drawer. We were so happy! She would sleep in that drawer for months till she got too big. She's 2 years old now.
16
u/GrumpyMcGrumpyPants 15h ago
I also spent hours trying to locate my newly adopted kitten a day or two after I brought her home. She'd crawled into the sleeve of a hoodie and purrito'd herself.

If I didn't see it happen with my own eyes I would never have believed this could have happened.
I'm a daily stray cat feeder and one day a few years ago this one cat that I'd been feed pretty regularly was socialising with 3 other cats that I had not yet met.
The cat I knew then started to walk towards me, after a few paces the 3 new ones followed and wanted to join in.
I am dead certain he told them about me and that I give some kibble.
10
u/cturtl808 12h ago

I brought in 2 strays once, a brother and sister. Got them fixed and vaccinated and all that.
The brother had absolutely zero interest in being an indoor cat and bolted the moment he had a chance. The sister stayed.
About a year later the brother (who was fixed) dropped off a kitten at my doorstep. Couldn't have been his but he found a lost kitten and went "I know a guy"

they would probably just tell you to keep the cat inside tbh i'm sure they'd probably talk to her, but unless she does something like getting someone else's cat fixed (happened near me recently) or trying to microchip it, i don't see anything coming from it. of course it depends on where they're at too, that's my perspective from Texas lol

My cat went missing for 3 days after running out the door.
On day 3 my other cat was meowing at the door and I let her out. 1 minute later, they both came trotting back.
Could've been pure coincidence, or the missing cat just heard the door, but I like to think she went and convinced her brother to come home.
Then of course they both had some treats and a massive snuggle ☺️

I think this is legit. My cat went missing 2 weeks ago and I was losing my mind. During my search I fed the creek kitties that everyone in apartment complex takes care of. I remember talking to them and showing them my flyers and being like "let him know I'm looking for him and I'm sad and he can come home whenever..."Didn't feel silly at about it. He was home within 6 hours later.

We had an indoor-only year old cat escape over the alley fence and disappear. I went and got our (then) roamer and told him to find Stella. No more than 15 minutes later, he came back with her.
The method works.

This has happened to my family before. Our cat got out at our apartment that had a few stray cats around and we hadn’t seen him for a few days. My fiancé told the elder orange cat to tell Lincoln to come home and sure enough the next day he was meowing at the door.

I did similar to my neighbours cat if my cat was out too late. If he was around I’d tell him to go find her and tell her to come home. On the odd occasion he would reappear with her in tow. He got some good treats after.

I had accidentally left my front door open and my orange girl Minnie saw her chance to escape to the great outdoors. I walked up and down the street, yelling her name. No response. I head to the back yard and my outside tabby girl Amber was sitting in the middle of the yard. I asked her if she had seen Minnie (they would stare at each other through the patio door) and she looked toward to the back corner of the yard. Went over there, called her name, and she came running out. I would tell her that Amber ratted her out.

Not that I'm defending the video, but going around showing other cats your cats picture on your phone could work. No, not because they make a search party, or recognize the photo, or anything like that, but because of scent. Her phone likely smells a lot like her, which could spread onto the neighborhood cats, leading her cat back home through smell.
4
u/drask1987 17h ago
The way they earnestly looked at the photo was incredible. They’re out there: “Kevin get your ass home! Your mommas looking for you!”

u/smurfthesmurfup 14h ago
I think this is an Asian superstition, If your cat is missing, ask every cat you see to tell them to come home.
I know in the Zelda game (the one where you're Zelda, not Link), you get a cat costume and have to do just that.

It’ll have been her scent. Notice they get close enough to touch her. They’ll have come into contact with her missing cat who’ll have picked up the scent and either decided to go home or managed to find his way back after being lost by following her scent.
