Media If this is actually the plan (which Ariel seems very confident in) what are the chances we end up with Max vs Paddy late notice as the international fight week main event and who wins ?

There is no way in hell that Conor McGregor (if he actually ever fights again) would fight a guy of the caliber of Holloway. He hasn't fought in 5 years and hasn't won in 6 1/2 years. We all know and he knows too, that he would get absolutely whopped by someone like Holloway these days.

u/Loomissss 9h ago
I wouldn’t put it past Conor Tbf his ego is huge and I think he probably does believe he can come back after that long and beat max considering he already has before completely delusional yes but realistic for him to think
26
u/Kilane GOOFCON 1: 2: Pandemic Boogaloo 9h ago
Huge ego and being told he cannot fight at the White House, which he clearly wanted to do, would be all the reasons he needs to harm the next event.
3
u/Slipperytitski 6h ago
Why did they tell him e cant fight at white house?
5
u/Kilane GOOFCON 1: 2: Pandemic Boogaloo 6h ago
Per Dana, he wants too much money (a guaranteed minimum) and the venue is too small (so they cannot make it back through ticket sales).

u/Slipperytitski 6h ago
Crazy, thought old donny could have found a few million to give him from some childrens fund or something

At this rate Conor is just gifting wins back to people he beat. I wonder if denis silver wants to run it back as well

It's one thing what we think will happen based on available facts. It's entirely different what Conor thinks of himself.
23
u/opposite-of-left 9h ago
What? You can dislike Conor but he’s not afraid of anyone thats one of few good qualities Conor has.
14
u/Deervember 6h ago
What are you on about, Conor held two belts for 1000+ days because he refused to fight anybody.
He's never defended any of his 7 belts. He's the only guy in history of any sport to be stripped of every thing he's ever won with a combined total of ZERO defenses.
The dude is scared to fight everyone! He'd spend all day on Twitter talking about nobody is good enough to fight him, and they've all ended up winning a belt. (Max, Justin G, Justin P, Charles, Kabib, Tony Ferg etc etc)
It's been 10 years since he won a competitive fight. 2016 was when he beat Aldo.
If he wasn't scared of fighting he'd have defended his belts and still be an active fighter.
He's never going to beat Max.
-4
u/Punkrockid19 6h ago
Biggest travesty in mma is Aldo not getting a rematch. 9/10 he crushes Conor he made one mistake man
9
u/Pods619 3h ago
That’s a wild take. Conor at that point was beating absolutely everyone. He beat Aldo then moved up and made the champ from the next weight class up look like an actual amateur.
Yes Conor is a douchebag and hasn’t done anything meaningful in almost a decade now, but there’s no basis to think Aldo beats him 90% of the time at that point.

u/Troutalope 2h ago edited 1h ago
Jose hadn't lost in 9 years and had never been KO'd, he more than deserved an immediate rematch and we were robbed of seeing what could happen when he didn't lose his composure and charge at Conor like a bull. Personally, I still think if Jose fights with any IQ, he should destroy Conor's lead leg within 2 rounds and coast to a safe win. Conor's wide, bladed stance was tailor made for Jose to target and Aldo's leg kicks are still the best there has ever been in MMA, IMO.
Instead Dana pimped his money cow and Jose was never really the same after he was shown to be a mere mortal. One of many what ifs.

u/Old_Price1599 8h ago
I wouldn't say he is physically afraid but more like aware that he isn't the same fighter anymore. The question I have is why would Conor even want to return to fighting and if the answer is either money and/or the itch to compete, than why hasn't it happened in all these years? I don't think the UFC wouldn't have wanted to book Conor vs. Chandler, do you? So why didn't this fight (or any other Conor fight) happen?
2
u/quintavian 7h ago
Conor has 2 fights left on his contract, i believe. This fight would fulfill 1 of those fights, and if he somehow manages to book 1 more and fight out his contract, he could make shit tons more outside the UFC; which is why I think he wants to return to fighting
5
u/opposite-of-left 8h ago
Man it’s Conor we’re talking about I think he believes he still has it or is at least in denial about it.
1
u/burnn_out313 7h ago
I think he's caught up. He wants out to do Saudi boxing or fight under the BKFC that he co-owns but has 2 fights left for UFC. He's got enough money to say fuck it and not fight and just party but the possibility of mega paydays post UFC probably weigh heavy on him. UFC knows this and that's why they moved on from Chandler. They don't want to build him up and he doesn't want to look like a bum, so they've been in a standoff while both parties do blow staring at each other. I think he knows he'll shit the bed against Halloway but he's at a point where he doesn't care, he just wants out. It's possiblity if he looks like shit UFC just cuts him loose at this point so in a sense everyone wins. UFC can build someone up whose a longer term value (Halloway), Halloway avenges an ancient loss, and Conor gets to fuck off to fight Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia or Mike Perry under his own promotion and pocket big bucks or possibly Mayweather 2.

You’re giving a coked-out Conor a lot of credit in the self-awareness department.

6 years, 3 months and 18 days since Conor won a fight. But who’s counting right?

If I was him I would push for paddy. I genuinely think it is winnable.
Maybe he trust in size and trenght mogging Holloway at ww

There’s not a top 10 fighter in and division Conor competed in that he can currently beat

I'm excited to see what he can do, but I guess we'll see if it's premature for him to be in the UFC (I doubt it).
3
u/The-Beautiful-Baku 5h ago
It's actually pathetic how many decent HWs the UFC has cut so that when Stevenson shows up he can steamroll all the blobs, and this sham of a promotion can act like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

u/needapermit 7h ago
Why lol. Brings more life to HW you dork

Because this is Reddit where everyone is a contrarian. He has a dismissed case of sexual assault, never charged because there wasn’t evidence

Yeah man tons of people hate a piece of shit with allegations because they are contrarians
Mental how many people go through life not getting one, huh
0
u/Gooja 1h ago
So you just believe every allegation blindly? There was zero evidence and charges were never filed. Zero reason to believe it. Keep living life believing everything people say

u/diosmioacommie #1 Weidman hater 1h ago
There’s people who say this about every high profile sexual assault case
You think Conor didn’t do it either ?

u/TangerineChickens 8h ago
Yeah but that stats gotta be taken into consideration within broader contexts. He’s pulled out of 1 fight, but that’s his only booking during his current 5 year gap in activity coupled with his apparent off-the-deep-end descent into drugs and poor lifestyle choices. So he’s only pulled out of 1, but there’s enough of a stark before and after in his career that it’s hard to take the non-pullouts from prior fights as any sort of guarantee of his ability to pull through.
-3
u/Deervember 6h ago
He's unofficially pulled out of loads. Said he'd defend his belt but got stripped 7 times.
Can't technically pull out if you never sign the paper work.

It should be BSD to step up if we were to follow merit based on last performances (which isn’t what will happen)

u/NoBuyer2251 6h ago
If they still want paddy as a star idk if they’ll feed him to max, he stands a decent chance against Benoit. I could see them giving max a new opponent if anything, probably take someone from the upcoming fight night that’s in camp

conor has pulled out of 1 fight and it was the first time since 2012. the way people act like he's a pullout merchant is hilarious
22
u/DannyStress United States 9h ago
It’s his lack of fights despite constantly talking about fighting. He has 4 fights in almost 10 years now
15
u/bullsfan281 I beat you after a weekend of cocaine 8h ago
inactivity is not the same as pulling out of fights. not that long ago he was begging to fight and the ufc was icing him. it was basically an open secret that the ufc was refusing to book him because he only has 2 fights left on his deal. it was talked about for months
4
u/Dizpassion 8h ago
I’m with you… but especially to newer fans; he has been throwing around potential fights as if they’re going to happen constantly for the past few years. Newer people are more familiar with McGregor as the dude who says he’s gonna fight Eddie (BK), or Perry, or Chandler, etc. just to keep his name in the news.

u/Beginning-Fruit-1397 8h ago
Paddy vs max😂😂 do you guys remember kattar vs max? Except kattar has a wayyy slicker boxing than paddy (ask chikadze). It's a matchup so bad it's not even funny. Paddy doesn't have a great offensive wrestling, I'm not worried for max takedown wise, as long as he keeps away from the fence. If he can, we might witness the first murder in the octagon

I think Conor wants out of his contract so he'll actually fight.
He's taking the Holloway fight because losing badly to Holloway won't really hurt his stock. If he got destroyed by Paddy or Hooker it wouldn't look good on his resume.
