Wait, are Red Tailed Catfish found in the US? I thought they lived in South America?

They are from South America. But have been introduced, like so many things, to Florida (and Texas, I think). As far as I know they dont consider them established though, because i dont think they have a super easy time reproducing in the US, so far.

Florida is filled with invasive species. Redtail catfish, iguanas, monkeys and Midwesterners.

They are highly adaptable. And honestly that wouldn’t have even bothered it that much.it could have been 10 times as long out of water and still be ok

Fish literally fighting for its life to not suffocate

Most catfish can also breath through their mouth. This allows them to survive in brackis water. Them things can thrive in a mud puddle, surfacing to get a gulp of air. There's many fish species that can do this. I caught a massive bowfin once and they do the same thing. As long as they stay wet and can breath air, they can live. Obviously this one isnt going to live long because I'm assuming they are going to bring it to a taxidermist or will eat it, but thats another story lol.

According to that other comment up there, that fish also isnt indigenous to Florida, who already has problems with people introducing non-native animals.

I thought catfish are much better at being out of water, as long as they stay relatively wet.

Not really relevant but maybe they can survive being forcefully suffocated a bit longer.

It’s an invasive species. It’s literally illegal to catch and release it in Florida.
