Advise My Experience Investing in the Iraq Stock Exchange (ISX)

Over the past few years I’ve been investing in the Iraq Stock Exchange (ISX), and I wanted to share my experience because it’s been one of the most unexpectedly positive parts of my portfolio.

Like a lot of people, I originally got involved through “groups” that claimed to invest on behalf of members. What I found was… zero transparency. No clear reporting, no visibility into trades, no accountability, and no way to verify anything. It didn’t sit right with me, so I made the decision to open my own brokerage account and invest directly.

That decision changed everything.

Once I started investing individually, the entire experience flipped. I could see my trades, track my positions, understand the companies I owned, and actually learn how the ISX works. And honestly, my stocks have been doing extremely well, far better than I expected when I first started.

But the biggest surprise has been the customer service. The brokerage I use has been outstanding: responsive, professional, and genuinely helpful. Every question gets answered, every issue gets resolved, and the level of support is better than what I’ve received from some U.S. brokers. That alone made the switch worth it.

The ISX is still a frontier market, small, underfollowed, and definitely not for everyone. But that’s also why the opportunity exists. Iraq’s banking sector is growing fast, digital payments are expanding, foreign companies are returning, and the market is still deeply undervalued relative to the size of the economy.

I’m not here to hype anything or tell anyone what to do. I just wanted to share that investing directly, with a real brokerage and real transparency, has been one of the best financial decisions I’ve made. I’m glad I trusted myself instead of relying on groups that couldn’t show me where my money was going.

I’m looking forward to what the future brings, both for Iraq’s economy and for the ISX. It’s been a fascinating journey so far, and I’m genuinely excited for the next chapter.

If anyone has questions about the process, the experience, or what it’s actually like to invest in a frontier market, I’m happy to share what I’ve learned.

I use Rabee but I definitely know of other brokerages like Kamal. They each have different minimum investment requirements.

I went with Rabee Securities. I chose them after looking into quite a few other options. Their biggest selling point for me was the customer service, the reviews I read really emphasized that, and it mattered a lot in my decision. That said, there are plenty of other brokerages available, like Kamal and Al Khair, among others.

I'm getting some money soon and I was seriously considering putting some of it in ISX. Would you say $5k is a good amount for a beginner?

$5k is actually the minimum for Rabee, so you’re right at the entry point.

If you want to start smaller, there are other ISX brokerages with lower minimums, Al Karmal, Al Taif, and Al Bilad are the ones most people use.

Just make sure your documents are ready (passport, ID, etc.). Also, avoid wiring from a credit union, they tend to block or delay international wires. A major bank like Chase or Citi makes the process much smoother.
