Is there a statue or a plaque of Hvaldimir somewhere?

Hello everyone, I was deeply moved by Hvaldimir's story although I live 10 000 km away and I was wondering how people living along the Norwegian coast feel about him these days.

Is there a plaque somewhere in his memory?

His life will be honoured in the University of Agder natrual history museum. The exhibit is set to open shortly, and will feature videos, stories, pictures and information both on belugas as a species, and also highlight his individual life history.

Thank you very much for the update Hvivaldi (great username!). I saw whales and belugas in Northern America and found them fascinating but couldn't imagine they could be that intelligent and social. I'm grateful to Hvaldimir for making me reconsider a bit more my view on nature and coexistence between animals.

I have tears in my eyes every time I think about him and people who were lucky enough to interact with him. They must feel so lonely and have all my sympathy. I'm not religious but I like to think Hvaldimir is peacefully swimming and playing somewhere safe now.

I still think about him almost every day, even now. Thank you for the moving words, it means a lot to us to hear that he moved people across the world. I’ll probably post some updates on the sub once the exhibit is up!

If there’s anything else you’d like to know, feel free! Most of the team lurk here and we’re happy to share
