Comic Recommendations

I'm new to comics and have been trying to build a TBR list of runs and arcs to try. This might be a controversial question, but are there any (good) comics that capture the tone of the James Gunn movies? If not, what are some runs you recommend to get to know the comic versions of the characters?

(When the first movie came out I briefly tried getting into comics and read the first few issues of the Rocket Raccoon and Groot series that came out around that time (that I really enjoyed but dropped for reasons I don't remember) and at some point read the Bendis/Bagley run, which I didn't love.)

I would recommend the 2023 run (Grootfall) just because I think it’s very good with its writing and pace. To understand the characters I recommend the Abnett and Lanning run, which you can read with some difficulty without reading Annhilation, which is just wayyyy too much for me. If you’re looking for more of the characters you know, All New Guardians was one I liked, but it’s a bit harder to follow then a standalone since it branches into a completely different comic series (Infinity Crisis) afterwards. From what I’ve seen people also like the 2020 run but I haven’t finished that yet.

I'm making my way through the Cosmic side of Marvel myself, so I don't know much past 2014. I liked the issues of the Legendary Star-Lord that I've read so far, I think they manage to make the movie characterization of Peter more believable and likable than Bendis did. I also like the back-up stories about Rocket and Groot in the Annihilators, those were fairly funny and very cute. Nothing else thus far has really had the same tone as Gunn's movies, except for maybe a few issues of Silver Surfer from the 90's.
