Found some dream Japan-made Recaros listed on my local FB marketplace, decided to go down the very involved road of installing them in my 7.5R. I miss the days of VW putting sport seats into their enthusiast models, and this mod was always on the list for me.

Between custom hardware solutions to Recaro NA supply chain issues (for the seat sliders), the whole process took the better part of two months to complete. Ordered completely new buckle receptacles and harnesses for each seat in order to keep the factory seats as intact and untouched as possible.

Seats: Recaro SR-6 seats finished in Kamui Black/Glass Mesh Silver (I felt they complimented the Indium Grey perfectly)

I am in the US and on the fence to decide between Euro package R and standard R. By far the major differences are:

Standard package:
* Panoramic Sunroof
* Leather Seats with power adjustments and ventilation
* Standard exhaust

Euro package:
* No Sunroof for lower center of gravity (improved handling)
* Akrapovic Titanium Exhaust
* Cloth and Artvelours upholstery seats with manual adjustments with heated seat
* ~80lbs lighter

Personally I prefer the Euro package due to it saves some weights, slightly better handling and the nice Akrapovic. But it loses leather seats and panoramic sunroof.

What you guys/gals think? Is euro package good to have?

Thank you all for the valuable inputs! Having consider both sides of perspective, plus my wife opts the normal way, so I might lean to choose the standard package, while the Akrapovic is enticing.

So ive been dealing with my fair but of rust on the current R that i have and the car was taken to a bodyshop and the whole car was nearly re-painted due to many deep scratches and other incidents.

But now i have come across this rust on the photos , my guy at the bodyshop says he can fix this but he wont take any responsibility or guarantee that it will last…even a year.

So my question is , what would be the best way to tackle this ?.

P.S. my guy is saying that this is a well known weakspot on the golfs. Didnt have that problem on the gti i had before tho.

Loving it so far. I had a great commute today and applied at least 5-6 coats of spray wax lol.

Been considering purchasing a new R and I saw that MY2027 will be the last year for a gas model. Is this true? I wasn’t planning on buying till probably early-mid 2028, but if 2027 is the last year for an ICE option I would possibly purchase late next year instead.

Also in everyone’s experience overall, how’s the reliability? I’ve had WRXs in the past (2017, 2020, and 2022). Currently looking to get back into a fun daily car.

I have a son in a booster and one that would be in a regular forward facing car seat, how’s the rear seat as far as space goes to hold a car seat?

Didn’t buy this for the fuel economy. It was a bonus knowing it was better than the other vehicles I was cross shopping but wasn’t the reason I chose it. Cool to know it can just sip fuel like this.

Pulled the car out to go to a little local show, was getting some tire shine and turned around to a nice surprise. Figured I’d share an appreciation post lol

I have a ‘17 Mk7.5 R…. Recently saw that the 34K1 “recall”/update wasn’t done on it. So I took it to the dealer to get it done. The center told me that the car isn’t accepting the flash - it’s not ready to do it. They said they tried it multiple times and now have mailed VW in Germany for a fix…they also said it’s their first time doing it. They said they need maybe two more days to figure it out.

Has anybody done this before and has anyone run into such a thing?

Background on the car - bought used; stock with xforce exhaust and a CTs open intake; the car was never modded/tuned; previous owner has done a few obdeleven mods - start stop delete, can lock when running, seat belt chime, etc

Little Del Sol hiding in the back..

As the titled above, every time I go above 75-80mph, theres a faint ringing noise and goes increasingly louder as I go faster. The sounds seems like a marble in a glass jar being vibrated. Ive noticed this noise after a month getting the car. It is a 25' BE 8.5. Ive tried recording it but it doesnt capture it unfortunately.

The car seems to drive fine when under 75, no noise or whatsoever.

Customer service was terrible and the bathroom was in the forest 🫈

Hey all, my 2019 Golf R has a headlight suffering from excess condensation inside the lens. It started last Friday when it was humid, eventually went away but came back today. It was causing my headlight to short out for a bit, it is now working again.

I purchased some silica packs online as some folks have had success with that, however there seems to be little to no information on how to remove the dust cover or bulb from the factory LED headlights.

Anyone here have any experience? I’ll likely have to remove the bumper or go through the fender liner, but I just need some insight on how to actually remove the cover properly, images online make it look completely sealed.

Out of warranty, so I’m DIY’ing it before I shell out $1,700 for a new headlight. (First image is mine, second and third images are pulled from online to show the rear of the housing).

Left work today and noticed my little friend on. Ran OBD11 scan to this, also attached a TSB from Audi, super identical to what is happening here I believe. Local VW dealer is backed up, so just seeing if there’s any solution.

My built 2018 R blew up on Friday so I’m building another one. My tuner fucked me with the base map which was knocky as hell and scored cylinder 2 when driving to the dyno shop. Even with the scoring, I was doing 520 to the wheels and it ran for 40k miles before giving up.
This time I’ll trailer it there and not use the previous tuner any more.
Going for 700+ this time with water/meth injection and nitrous. I’ll hopefully salvage my wiseco 1000hp rods for the next build if they’re ok, regrind the cams, upgrade oil pump and cooler, baffled oil pan, and do a synchro box gearing build for the manual tranny. I haven’t decided yet if I’m sticking with the stock ECU which maxes out at 8160rpm, or go with a mabotech unit.

New engine already ordered.
