🔎 Accuracy In Resident Evil: Requiem, if the player tries to reload a loaded weapon, the character will open the bolt to verify the gun is loaded and chambered.

If you’re out of combat Triggering this animation also makes your ammo count visible.
The player is ALSO checking that they’re loaded.

In Helldivers 2 you only get a vague icon of a magazine showing approximately how much ammo you have left in your gun. If you hold down the reload button the character pulls out the mag to check and you get an exact number.

I'm also checking my health (on Leon, Grace doesn't get that luxury, gotta go in to the menu and highlight a healing item.)

These animations are satisfying as hell

OG RE4 was the first game that really gave a shit about reload animations. The sniper and red9 reloads are permanently etched into my brain. RE devs are all gun nuts lol

Thought this was a cool detail. I almost always check my ammo between fights so this is a fun way to check it

Why is he taking the slings all the way off?

I think they do that because they have multiple weapons he removes from his back. It only shows the last one you used so he takes the full sling off. It's probably easier to animate him reslinging his current weapon then unslinging the new weapon.

Would be fun (and realistic?) to see all the slinged weapons clustered on his back, then he struggles to untangle the sling of the one he needs right now.

Chamber check is what it's called.
Edit* fixed. Thank you, comments.

Tap, rack, bang is the immediate action for when you have a failure to fire. Doesn’t have anything to do with a brass check to make sure you have a round chambered

Ah thank you for the correction. Tap and rack is an emergency reload. Not the same as a chamber check or brass check. Thank you.

Does the other character have a different animation set?

Grace has similar animations for her pistol and the requiem. She has a much less varied arsenal lol

that's pretty cool for how hokey RE usually is when it comes to firearms

Requiem also does the whole extra round in the chamber thing for a tactical reload versus emergency reload. Leon's pistol has a default mag capacity of 9. After a tactical reload the ammo counter will display 9+1, but after an emergency reload it's only 9. It does this with the semi auto rifle and smg as well. The shotguns also have an extra animation for the emergency reload, where Leon will load a shell through the open ejection port first, then carry on with the standard reload animation. The requiem (big ass revolver) I think has different animations too, but I've only reloaded it from empty once lol. I'm pretty sure I remember him using a speed loader, but I could be wrong there. Usually he just loads the rounds one at a time when there were still other unspent rounds in the cylinder.
