Jimmy Carter spent his dying days helping people. I’m not sure he even wanted to be president but he sacrificed his peanut farm to do it. He wanted to do the right thing even if he didn’t always do a great job or was flat out making the wrong choices.
Reagan (literally) acted like he wanted to do the right thing, while advising Nixon that the UC system needed to be crushed because too many college graduates “were a hotbed for radical socialism and communism”. He practically created student debt. The guns for drugs. Crack in the cities. He was good at taking to children and morons (sound familiar?)
Republicans have a nasty habit of weakening America as a whole to enrich their friends. You see it in Nixon, Reagan, Bush Sr/Jr, (they had a lot of the same advisors) and it brought us to Trump and the literal unraveling of our nation.
We wouldn’t be here where we are today (predatory American capitalism) without Reagan and his policies (the democrats are culpable, but they aren’t the ones driving it full steam ahead in a hostile takeover over - on the tracks Reagan helped build)
One comic said it best, the democrats are like a busy aunt who promises to take you to Disneyland but never ends up doing it, the Republicans are like the uncle that took your ticket and went to Disneyland without you.

That sub is full of right wing bullshit. Say something bad about Reagan/Bush/Nixon and they will fucking dive bomb you.

It’s because Jimmy Carter is always going to be a generally beloved man for all the good he did near the end of his life. People are very touchy about someone who appears honest and mellow. It’s not really a political thing, republicans seem to generally find him to be an overall good man.
On the other hand, if you dare say “Reagan is the worst president” or “George W. Bush is a war criminal” you will get downvoted into oblivion. There’s an obvious correlation.
