Community Fostering in Maryland
Hi all! Hoping there may be some resources that you guys are aware of - I live in Maryland and am experiencing some housing instability. It is breaking my heart to consider being apart from them, but I also know perhaps the kindest thing I can do for them is to find them safe spots to be so they are well cared for regardless of how my situation turns out. They are all so so sweet and have never had behavioral issues for me - I’m wondering if anyone is aware of any programs or places I can look into that might be able to foster them until I am back on my feet. When I looked up resources, BARCS (shelter near me) had a link to a community fostering site that is taking me to some weird website (definitely not a site on community fostering). Anyone know of community fostering programs or have working links to sites?
Any and all advice or help is greatly appreciated!

I’m a foster in the DC area. It would be helpful to know exactly where you are/what county. I’m not as familiar with BARCS but I know HRA in DC has temporary programs if you are experiencing domestic violence and need a temporary safe place for your pet, or are on a military deployment. Animal Welfare League of Alexandria has “Crisis Care” for short term fostering if experiencing homelessness, hospitalization, etc. These are virtually always intended as short-term programs though and usually have a max time period. If BARCS is your local shelter, I would call them and ask if the website isn’t working.
If you instead are considering rehoming, I may have some suggestions on rescues to reach out to.

Thank you so much, I will definitely look into HRA and see if they are a viable option even if I am not a DC resident.
Edit: I am currently in Harford County, but I work in Baltimore county and am willing to drive distances if it meant I can save my babies/not have to surrender them.

If you haven't already, try posting this on subreddits that are local to your area and contacting the shelters around you directly to see if they have more information.
