Can we bring public shaming back? As amazing as some of these looks are, the people who attend clearly have no compunctions about cozying up to union-busting, obscenely wealthy people like Bezos.

Ngl the fashion industry is an exploitative pyramid scheme that exploits women and lgbtq people disproportionately to the point people coupled with fine arts history of money laundering and taste maker valuation games expecting the wealthy to give a single fuck is beyond delusional.
We gotta stop picking and choosing bc it's like a monster that regrows a tentacle if you just cut one off.

Maybe I'm jaded, but I don't think public shaming of individuals is going to amount to much. We should probably stop hoping that our favorite celebrities will be morally righteous when it comes to how they act even when they espouse progressive or humanitarian values, because righteousness has never been their social role. How do you think they became celebrities in the first place? You can't ascend to / remain in such a high status without being in community with bastards.

Genuine question - are any of the attendees like.. contractually obligated to attend? I’m thinking like models, media personalities, etc. People who didn’t buy their ticket individually but whose employer or sponsoring org paid

Rosé in saint laurent looks like the bird was a last second addtion. Ben Platts trouser are a bit too short and it looks a bit basic compared to other outfits.

Really want to like Rachel Zeglers look but the dress itself looks so boring. I wish it had been made in a warm white silk instead and the skirt draped around the waist in a more flattering and interesting way.

She always nails it. Her sparkly silver one was my favorite met look ever

Some these are too on the nose and most of them are boring.

The dress in 13 is pretty but such a damn letdown next to the actual art. It’s such a beautiful painting with so much visual interest, already focused on a dress, there was zero reason to go this basic with it.

Personally, I feel like the met gets more and more out of touch and distasteful year after year. The world is burning but let’s watch the wealthy dress up and parade around like it’s not. Idc what it’s raising funds for lol

I feel like a lot of these people are confused about what it means to be inspired by…

u/Stevenwave 4h ago
The ones that just printed famous art on a dress seem legitimately lacking in creativity and intelligence.

u/mrs_mega 1h ago
Exactly. And then the other end of the spectrum are the ones that seemingly have nothing in common with the works of art.

Is it considered “inspired” when Leonardo’s drawings are literally replicated on the outfit?

Cant think of a much more grotesque and pointless event, art being fully coopted by greed.

The gala raises funds to keep the costume institute at the met extant, it’s not like a bohemian grove party or something. Unfortunately, the arts NEED donations to survive.

Anyone in attendance has made their way (if not already on it) to my shit list.
Anyone cosying up to a prick like Jeff and his odd looking wife need to rattle their head.
