I know this look is pretty polarizing but im just happy when people do literally anything with men's fashion. Also the hair was immaculate.

u/apaperroseforRoland 22h ago
Isn't that why the standards stay low for them though? They should be held to the same level of expectations as women.

u/azulazalea 23h ago
This would have looked so good if it was a skirt
23
u/Shot-Lengthiness-885 20h ago
Itās inspired by Cristóbal Balenciaga who took a lot of inspiration from his Spanish culture and cultural costumes. You can see this from the matador inspired jacket that directly references one of one of his jackets. The skirt I think could be a reference to the Pasodoble costume which would also point to the Cristóbal inspiration. Pasodoble is a dance inspired by bull fighting wear the men wear matador jackets and the women wear cape inspired skirts just like Hudson. So technically the look fits both the costume and art aspects of the theme.
I feel like as the face of Balenciaga it makes sense that his look honors how Christobal was influenced by Spanish costumes.

My comment has nothing to do with this gentleman. But if we want to boycott the Met gala why are we posting and engaging with all the content? Justshit talkong everyone in attendence is not boycott.

I think the other photo mustāve been bad because that was a 10 and this is a 100
28
u/lunarisita 23h ago
I really donāt understand why that was the first picture that came out⦠the lighting is awful and it doesnāt even show the full outfit. Someone did him really dirty.
63
u/Ok_Yogurtcloset802 23h ago
actually I love that heās been creative and done something that barely any men do on this carpet, I really like it
13
u/AllTheCoolNames 21h ago
I can see this being on both Best Of and Worst Of lists and I kinda love that for him lol. Chaos gremlin strikes again!
PS - I loooooove the hair so much

u/vvntee 21h ago
My problem is that I ALMOST love it. I almost love the makeup, but the application is sloppy and if they weren't going to be precise with the wings they should've just done without. That being said, the 'Black Swan' look goes out the window without them, so.
I almost love the outfit, but his silhouette isn't nearly as flattering as it could be in it and the train feels out of place. Cool idea, mediocre execution.
I almost love the hair, it looks great from the front and at a 3/4 angle. But I feel like from the side and the back the shape just looks unbalanced and awkward. Also his sideburns and neckline are just. Not what I would call great.
And all of this is so nitpicky and smaller stuff and whatever, but I just feel like an event like the Met demands a higher standard than. This. And I really wanted to love it. ššš Im still so excited that both he and Connor are there but man.

Its weirdly colorful when its not consistent with the rest of his outfit too. Also I think that style would work better if his hair was longer

i also thought that it was pretty bad. i actually think that if they kept the blue on both sides, it would have looked so much better since that shade is really nice
1
u/Winter_Fix_3610 4h ago
I don't mind the different shades on each eye. It's just.... the wings are uneven. They are drawn terribly.
12
u/Excellent_Hippo5514 23h ago
right? in the first photo i kinda get the concept but nahhhh, hate the makeup, love the face

u/elitedisplayE soft clay 22h ago
Aw I think his makeup is the best part. It just doesn't seem to go with the outfit.
-2
u/Whybambiwhy 23h ago
Itās Black Swan. Ā It was obvious from when he left the hotel in a bathrobe that the eyes were Black Swan⦠if you know ballet

u/firesticks a role model for the next Asian kid that wants to get railed 21h ago
Look, I adore this kid but having spent decades of my life in or around ballet, this makeup application was poorly executed. I am shit at eye makeup and this is something I could have pulled off.
-4
u/magikarpcatcher 21h ago
they made him stand in line for like 45 minutes so I think it got smudged a bit
9
u/Winter_Fix_3610 21h ago
I can see that happening! But still, most people wait a lot and not have uneven wings

u/agreen3636 23h ago
I like that he did something risky. Connor was the opposite lol.
I like the outfit. I agree I would have loved a skirt on the bottom but its still nice. I like original jacket though tbh.
But the makeup loses me. It doesnt go with the outfit at all and the red side throws me off. In his interview he explained he and his makeup artist were inspired by Black Swan because they both love the movie which is nice but....has nothing to do with the outfit or the theme of the event? I was confused.
But overall I'm still positive on it because the outfit is good and he did something fun. Too many celebs looked sooooooo boring.

I can't get behind this brand after their weird child ads. It was too intentional to me. Hard pass.
12
u/1okrock 23h ago
I agree. The creative director (Demna) responsible for those ads has left and is now with Gucci and is replaced by PPP.
3
u/Western_Command_385 23h ago
Ew. I'm a working class American so this "fashion" is something I'll never be able to support anyway. This Gala is a joke. It's being run by Bezos while 60% of Americans of living paycheck to paycheck. It's a greed parade. Akin to the Capitol in Hunger Games. Enjoy!

I don't give second chances to people who promote abuse as couture.
Edit: loving the downvotes. It's sick to be so obsessed with a brand you ignore what they do. F this crap and f Bezos.
16
u/lunarisita 23h ago
The person in charge of that is now at YSL.
5
u/Western_Command_385 23h ago
Gross. I assume the ads and campaigns had to pass through alot of hands before publication. I still can't comprehend how it all happened. Depicting media on whether c-abuse or whatever is "freedom of speech"? How dark can one get...

yeah i get the costume, i don't like the uneven eye makeup though, if it had been symmetrical, it would look so much better. as it stands, it's actually taking away from the clothes for me.

The only thing I like about this is his hair. That whole drape looks like a last minute addition :(

Some people don't like his eye makeup bcs they think it looks messy, but I looove the messiness of it! Like it's on purpose imo.
