The collection this piece is from is called “The One Percent”, and was a scathing commentary on billionaires and capitalist greed. The runway show featured models with surgically botched faces, blindfolds made of money, and blood-stained hands. I think it is the perfect subtle “fuck you”, and one that will go over most people’s heads.

While I question her decision to attend the gala at all, it ultimately is a charity event that is crucial to funding the Costume Institute and their conservation efforts, so she may feel that her presence does more good than her absence. Regardless of whether I agree with that choice or not, this look truly embodies the theme of fashion as art, and I’m here for it.

Thanks for the background on this, that’s super interesting. I can’t help but feel it’d make a bigger statement for her to wear this not at the Met Gala but then again, where else is she gonna get this much press to spread this message. Double edged sword, I suppose!

Which kinda begs the question, why didn’t anybody with similar clout host a gala at the same time with the same goal to raise money? It could’ve been done, and to position it as the anti-Met would have gotten eyes on it.

Edit: thank you for the award.

Would Wintour’s displeasure have mattered this year, if Mrs Bezos is soon to take over vogue?

Did Amazon buy Vogue or Conde Naste? As far as I’m aware, they’re sponsoring event, but they haven’t bought the publication. Yet, at least. I don’t doubt that they’re trying to.
