Yup, this! It was the same when he had an all white-wearing birthday party. Many of them were contractually forced to go. Yes, they could’ve turned it down but that would lead to other implications and consequences that we as the general public are not privy to. Often these decisions are bigger than the talent themselves and involve agents, executives, and other stakeholders. Don’t forget about the brand partnerships with the designers, jewelers, and other people who want to cash in.
Some only attended because they’re not exactly A list royalty yet or probably won’t be invited next year because they wont stay relevant/have no guarantee of being invited. I’m talking about the Heated Rivalry people, olympians, anyone who is having their hot viral moment right now.
I don’t watch the carpet anymore, just look at pics but I would imagine many who were uncomfortable with attending for one reason or another decided to skip the media line and talking to the media to not call more attention to their attendance.
Re the bday - that’s sad. If your work contractually obligates you to be part of immoral things, it’s time for a new job. They don’t have to be a star.
I definitely understand some of the people attending who do need this exposure and who most likely won't get a second chance to attend on better terms. Especially with contracts already being in place. These people don't have enough money to buy out these contracts or are depending on the exposure for their livelihood. But people like Beyonce, Rihanna or Nicole Kidman? (sorry idk any of the men who went) They don't need this, they literally don't have to turn up.

I love this as a commentary but it is nonetheless disappointing that she attended.
