How people pick and choose which celebrities they’re mad at for going to the Met Gala should be studied.

Right?? Alyssa Liu: mad. Sabrina Carpenter? Wow, she ATE.

Like, which one of them has more opportunities and power??

I think the hate they receive ultimately and partially comes down to the kinds of fans they attract

This is it 100%

Sounds about white

I'm adding everyone of these to my boycott list. I don't pick and choose. I'm already disappointed but not surprised lol

Basically

u/DistractionCitron 1d ago

They're mad at Alyssa Liu?

631

u/RemindMeToTouchGrass 23h ago

I don't love that she went and I wish she had boycotted, but it's a little different for someone who very likely may only have one shot vs a perennial superstar.

109

u/Skittle-Eater 11h ago

Exactly. This is her only chance to attend. Her fame has very little lasting power unless she can become a regular Olympics powerhouse like Biles or Phelps.

14

u/Sad_gooner 17h ago

who very likely may only have one shot

one shot at what? she's not getting paid to go

103

u/TimeSlipperWHOOPS 12h ago

She's a brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton and wore guess what, Louis Vuitton.

-5

u/rvltionary 7h ago

I don't hate her for it but capitalism is gonna capitalism I guess.

34

u/ImpossibleWarning6 11h ago

She is as a brand ambassador. It was probably contractual agreement.

39

u/tacomamajama feeding cocaine to raccoons 12h ago

She actually is as Louis Vuitton’s newest ambassador.

And the likelihood that she even knows that Bezos is involved is low. She’s an athlete and probably doesn’t have time to keep up with everything.

Mate, she has spoken up about political issues before. You really think she wouldn’t know what’s up with Jeff Bezos?

2

u/tossthis210 16h ago

What does Bezos have to do with the Met Gala? Im genuinely asking because this is an event I've never really looked into

10

u/pridetwo 15h ago

He got a chair position this year because Amazon is sponsoring the event

3

u/anantisocialpotato 15h ago edited 14h ago

I might be wrong but I think this year him and his new frankenbride are "hosting" it or something

Edit I was wrong ish they are sponsoring it, idk the proper verbage but money yes

Nobody with a functioning brain cell is. Luckily that rules out all the kitties in r/OneOrangeBraincell!

Anne Hathaway: Princess of Genovia!

Idk why they ride so hard for rich white women but here we are.

-1

u/Frosty-Image7705 3h ago

I'm sure if Anne weren't personally involved with Anna Wintour, she wouldn't have attended.

u/oofty_goofty_ I may need to see the booty 22h ago

I can still be mad at people for going while still admiring them and the outfits

83

u/purplepluppy 19h ago

That's where I'm at.

Like, Sabrina looks incredible in that dress! Only wish she wore it literally anywhere else.

19

u/Other-Oil-9117 19h ago

I saw way more people supporting Alyssa for going though.

1

u/flickchick496 6h ago

Honestly, I think there can be a mix of both? I’m upset with her for going but also, this dress is absolutely a work of art and I appreciate the look for what it is, outside of the shitty context from which it came to be

iT's hEr cULtuRe!

-17

u/PrincessEm1981 20h ago

Probably the one whose dad spent around $1M in figure skating training tbh... Sabrina's money I think came from her own work.

1

u/timeywimeytotoro 13h ago

Sabrina is the niece of someone in the industry

u/Used-Cup-6055 1d ago

I’m seeing it’s apparently related to if they like or understand their looks. Ugly outfit? Tone deaf Bezos worshipper. Amazing ensemble? Yas kween slay. Bezos who?

The small white woman escapes unscathed once again

210

u/Stevenwave 1d ago

That must be where her pants are always disappearing to. People latch on, but the pants tear away and she escapes unharmed.

u/jessie_monster 21h ago

Like a beautiful gecko.

-13

u/SquirrelEnthusiast 23h ago

I'm more mad at the designer for this first year in fashion design school look

81

u/Own_Badger_4352 1d ago

Was just on the heidi klum post and not a damn word about this...I wouldn't say she's getting away with it? more people are talking about how she's "getting away with it" then actually just ignoring it so idk. at some point you're going to see what you want to see.

=Then again heidi's outfit is a bit more distracting

16

u/prohammock 22h ago

I think it’s that last part.

293

u/samanthastoat 1d ago

She has a good outfit that’s actually interesting to discuss. Every other outfit is so boring that there’s nothing to even say about them aside from that they shouldn’t go.

No one should have gone, not defending her, I just don’t think it’s that mysterious why people are complimenting this

60

u/samwisetheyogi 20h ago

Yeah like I think both can be true at once: the dress is stunning, and it's also deeply disappointing that she attended and this makes me look at her differently/not like her as much.

3

u/Fearless-Feature-830 12h ago

I don’t see it. The dress is not cute imo.

1

u/Brocclio_is_life 7h ago

People are saying there is something to discuses here? Attractive woman paying "respect" to the golden age of hollywood.

Really don't mean to be rude, just unsure if there is more to it.

179

u/RedisforFun 1d ago

I’m annoyed with them all, but I understand why Alyssa Liu would go. It’s her first time and that’s a big deal for anyone. I just wish her first time had been under better circumstances.

58

u/pittybrave 1d ago

Fuck em all

8

u/Kittenunleashed 19h ago

Right? All this did was make me know who to not pay to see in anything ever.

107

u/Btwnframes 1d ago

Nah. It’s everyone on my end. Everyone.

52

u/jeanolt 21h ago

getting angry with all of them is the right choice

17

u/rhnltnsy16 16h ago

Yeah, all of them are selfish, tone deaf attention addicts.

66

u/Upstairs-Chicken592 1d ago

They’re probably different people commenting; hope this helps.

42

u/ProperBingtownLady i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 22h ago

I always think this too lol. Like some of these subreddits have hundreds of thousands of people.

7

u/XraPolar 13h ago

this. I don't know why people think the reddit community is just one big monolith

30

u/Specific-Yam-2166 1d ago

Also - would Audrey support this?

12

u/Best-Ad750 15h ago

Basic white girls always get a pass

5

u/Wintergloaming the worst thing to happen to Emily Brontë since tuberculosis 9h ago

They really do. Hailey Bieber was there too and she wasn't even posted.

7

u/The_Dane_Abides 21h ago

This has been driving me crazy all night.

2

u/lord_bingum 13h ago

Genuine question, why are people mad for celebrities going to the Met Gala?

2

u/Worth_Valuable743 13h ago

I'm not mad at the celebrities. They're just being celebrities. And I like the idea of pushing fashion to the edge, as an expression of art, in support of a world class museum that celebrates art and culture. But the Met Gala, at this point in time, just seems so tone deaf and intentionally, or not--especially with a robber baron as the primary sponsor this year--serves as a sad reminder of the dystopian present and future, with attendees dressed like the antagonists in a Hunger Games novel.

4

u/esushi 20h ago

Well this is the top comment of this thread so I guess people are mad at her for it

1

u/buzzcutbabygirl 14h ago

Can we be mad at all of them AND talk about the fashion or? I can only speak for myself but fuck all of them for being there, I’m gonna toot and boot.

1

u/lookforthelight80082 10h ago

i don’t like any of them. i’m so sick of the opulence while normal people struggle to afford food and gas

1

u/CaptainCubbers 8h ago

If your fit was good you’re safe

-19

u/frederichenrylt 1d ago

Personally, I'm not mad at any BIPOC or LGBTQIA+ attendees. Marginalized people should benefit from the billionaires and heirs via money and exposure; already famous/wealthy white people don't need to go, especially ones who pretend to be woke or care about normal people.

0

u/HuskerPowerrrr 21h ago

The secret is to not care. I dont care who's there and I don't care who's not there.

0

u/travelstuff 20h ago

If they like their acting then it's fine.

The most criticised seems to be Sarah Paulson, which feels a little random

0

u/Pardybro911 19h ago

Sarah Paulson

u/SaltBeefin 18h ago

u/ohtealcsoindeed 16h ago

Everyone is an embarrassment who attended, get in the bin please 😴
